guys, is the nowadays digital camera are close or comparable with dslr camera nowadays?

my digital camera just burned last week and planning to buy new one but I dont like the bulky dslr but at the same time I need some good quality photo shooting.

any comment or suggestion?

Hey guys, need some suggestions.

I wanted to get Sony NEX-5 but I just Canon just recently launched G12.

I'm not that familiar with camera terminologies and I'm not sure which one should I get.

I want to use one of these cams first to gage my interest before I get my DSLR. Don't wanna waste my money buying an expensive cam to lose interest later on..

So which do you think is better for this purpose? NEX5? or G12?

er.. i'm not familiar with settings just yet. i do wan dslr quality if i can

are they much cheaper? how much are they? and are the lenses expensive too?

nex5 for both lenses are about 3K. their new lense is 2K almost a brand new cam :S

i would like to ask friendly advice from u guys. my budget for this year is about RM3000-RM4000...
currently im in the middle of making decision for which brand/model to buy... i ve asked my frens about this matter...
most of them recommend me to buy nikon d90... only few of them recommend to buy canon eos 550d or 60d..
fyi, im not a professional photographer.. taking picture just for fun but planning to do part time job (wedding, event, etc) in the future...
glad if you guys could give me some idea, introduce, advice, suggestion before making final decision.. lol

I'm still beginner..Probably assortment of photos. Portrait, landscape and some sports I think..

550D is it much superior to 30D? I get this a lot: Difference in 5 years of technology is like between heaven and earth.

Not sure how true is that though..I'm student on budget, so just looking for a good camera that will last me for like 3-5 years..

Don't really want to go Sony because my friend has some L lenses and he's agreed to letting me borrow them hehehe..So yeah...If not I would've gone Nikon with a really good deal on D200..
I'm not sure whether I need all the features though..I just need a clear view on the LCD, some really good images and good handling..And lasts long too..I don't suppose camera tech is like computer -- the newer computer, the faster it is and more powerful?

I mean, 20D and 30D can still take really good images isn't it?

Any specific features u want? : Actually, I bought my first camera 10 years ago and it was not digital. Back then, I did not care too much about taking great photos. Then, the camera was lost and I only use my iPhone camera to take memorable photos. Now, I plan to travel overseas, so I think I should get a camera to capture this trip especially nature & landscape. Since I like foods as well, I'd like to use it to take great foods photos. Can you recommend a camera that can be used for both outdoor and indoor? I am a newbie, so an entry level DSLR camera should be fine...

im not a sifu firstly n im just a beginner oso..

but to answer ur question,i think u shud go with the nikon D3100..why?bcuz its new-er than the D3000 and there's new features in it.

mostly the HD movie recording with the continuous AF when recording..and the price diff is rm400 oni..

nikon D3000 - rm1499, nikon D3100 - rm1900..so,if it was me,im going with the nikon D3100
honestly,i dont quite like about the 30% lost of light on the a55..not one bit.

but other than the 30% lost of light,i think the sony a55>nikon D3100 (just IMO)

i havent tested it yet (both),but by reading the specs and watching reviews on utube,i think the sony is better..10fps,tilt screen..but if u r really caught up in such situation,i mean u cant choose between these 2,just go to some shop and try it out..hold it in ur hands and stuff..which one fits u better...but if it was me,as i said earlier, other than the 30% lost of light,i think the sony a55>nikon D3100 (just IMO)..
