if u need video, the im suggesting the nikon D3100 or the canon 550D. btw, the nikon D3100 price in semenanjung is around rm1900 with kit lens, and the canon will be around rm2888 with kit lens (that's way over ur budget huh?) so if u need video,i think the D3100 is the choice. i dont know the pricing in KK tho. well if u dont need video, the 1000D and D3000 can serve u well smile.gif .well the s95 is not a DSLR, its a high-end compact.

i'd pick the TX-5..with this camera i really can bring it everywhere..including having a swim with friends at the pool or beach or go hiking without worrying that it will break during the trip..  biggrin.gif

3D shooting is just some marketing gimmick la..they claim that you can take videos in 3D mode but might need to rely on the glasses or stand away from the screen for a certain distance before you can see the effect. my 2 cents. blush.gif

RM1.3k might get you a D3000 D3100 is around RM1.9k which is way over budget already

Else, there's always PnS out there with HD video yo biggrin.gif

How is it possible that you prefer a D3100 when your budget isn't sufficient enough for it? smile.gif

You can easily get a 2nd hand EOS 1000D or a Nikon D3000, or you can top up around RM200 more for a brand new D3000/1000D brows.gif There are also Sony DSLRs like the A380 iinm

If you don't want to upgrade your DSLR body in a mid-long term (you define the period yourself), afford the best while you can, which is D7000 + kit lens. I see that you wanted to do low light shooting, get a 50mm f/1.8, it costs few hundred bucks, delivers very sharp image and inexpensive.

Guys, for a beginner with RM8k budget, what DSLR can you get? It's for my friend. Probably Canon 7D. Probably with 580EX-II. Or if you think Nikon is better, give you suggestions smile.gif

Wow, RM8k budget is real thing. rclxms.gif
Uhm, Canon EOS 7D, he wanted a kit lens or what? Afford the best while you can. There's no such thing as beginner cannot get a professional grade DSLR equipment. What kind of photography he want to do? Normal shooting, low light?

Canon EOS 7D + EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM would be the best for normal shooting.
Canon EOS 7D + bundle kit lens (either EF-S 18-135mm, or EF-S 15-85mm), 580EX-II, some other equipments

I would say it's up to your choices. Provide more information about his needs.

Thanks for your recommendations bro. But problem is, he knows nothing for now. He wants to buy it coz he wants to join us for outing, studio shooting and etc. Photography is on the rise now in Kelantan smile.gif

How much will 7D, 15-85 & 580EX-II cost? hmm.gif

No worries. He can learn after he got his camera. Ask him to do research online / read articles and reviews. smile.gif
Canon EOS 7D with bundle 15-85 costs around RM6200, Speedlite 580EX-II around RM1700. An excellent "starter kit" actually.
