Type of camera/lens/accesories : Compact or Mirrorless
Budget : RM2.0k
Your Location : Penang
Preferable brand : Anything as long as its reliable
Type of photography u want to do : Typical landscape for family outing, indoor portraits, MOST IMPORTANT is baby portraits who are moving quite fast indoors.
Any specific models in mind? : Nikon D3100, Nex-3 (18-55mm), Panasonic LX-5, Canon G-12
Any specific features u want? : Very quick continuous shooting for 5 seconds. To capture the baby. Also need 720p movie.

I'm really stuck right now as I'd really prefer a compact camera that can fit in a big side pocket rather than a SLR or like the NEX-3 which both need bags or slings.

So far I've not handled the LX-5 or G-12 yet but from the specs it doesnt seem either can shoot quickly and continuously, for at least 4-5 seconds. Am I right or should I go and try it out myself?
*
Mirrorless?
Are you talking bout the new Sony's DSLT?
If you wanna take potraits, might as well go for a DSLR/DSLT that would be more worth it in a long run, 2k can get you stg like a nikon d3000 or Sony A33..

QUOTE(w.j0102 @ Nov 14 2010, 06:42 PM)
tyvm.. But is the lack of AF motor in the camera make me harder to buy cheaper lenses?
*
The AF is on the lens lol. Then invest on a Sony A33 perhaps?

The questions are should I get the

1) D7000 wit the NIkkor 18 - 200 mm?
2) D7000 with Sigma 18 - 200 mm?
3) D3100 with Nikkor 18 - 200 mm?

Budget is of course a concern but I am after value for money.

I seldom use the camera except on certain occasion and traveling oversea once or twice a year.

Thank you,

With your budget, 6k and you hardly will use the camera, why not get a cheap camera and get it done with? That's wasting money.

To answer your Q, might as well get a D7000 with a zoom lens la. It will cost roughtly around 5k++ that range.

that is why I am thinking of getting either the D3100 + nikkor 18- 200 mm lens or D7000 with the Sigma 18 - 200 mm lens.

which one is better, a cheap camera with an expensive lens or expensive body with cheaper lens?

I personally the D7000 + Sigma 18 - 200 mm lens but worry the performance of the Sigma lens.

Lol.

For me, a mid range body with a killer lens will pawn even pro body with noob lens.
Depends on you.
Since you are not into DSLR much, might as well get stg like Nex or PnS camera.

D3100 with zoom lens would do, since you are not doing much with it but once you get poisoned, you will spend more n more XD

actually I had been using SLR camera from the day when we are still using manual focusing and manual f-stop adjustment. I still have my Pentax K-1000 with me Ha! Ha!.

I like photography but just that I am too lazy now to go out and take pictures.

Anyway, I really been poisoned by the D7000, most probably I will end up buying this camera with the kit lens (18-105mm) that comes with it.

I am not in a hurry and I can wait for the price to come down later.

Thanks for the advice.

Please give me some suggestion, currently look on Sony Nex3K
Offer getting is 1.85K with 8Gb + Screen Protector.

So within this range any better offer Camera around, not prefer ordinary DSLR as the size is big.

Please give me any better choice other than this.
