not bro, im a girl... hehe... i heard a lot about saying sony is a no no... im still undecided...! what do you think about Canon Digital IXUS 210...? what do you think...?

then if not buying from lowyat, any other better shop in KL?
*
that's because sony cameras are pretty expensive for the price. for that price, can already get high end compact like a canon S90 or lumix LX3. but then if u like the sony brand n looks, who's to say u're wrong...u shud buy what u like smile.gif canon IXUS 210 is quite good too for ~rm1k

Type of camera/lens/accesories :  DSLR
Budget: 2K below
Your Location:   n9
Preferable brand :  Canon/Nikon/Sony
Type of photography u want to do :  Close up/potrait/scenery/people
Any specific models in mind? :  canon 1000d, nikon d3000, sony a230/330
Any specific features u want? : can also video recording? user friendly dslr needed coz i'm a starter. dun no anything yet about iso function. also need a dslr that can take good quality picture. smile.gif thanks
*
if u want video recording, canon 1000d n nikon d3000 dun have sad.gif. u need atleast canon 500D or nikon D5000, shud be 2k-2.5k like that. any dslr can take quality picture as long as u have the right lens and skill. if ur budget mmg cannot go more than rm2k, probably u can juz get a compact with full manual controls like lumix LX3 or canon S90, n start learning about the basics like ISO, shutter speed, aperture, white balance, etc. at least this option can still record video

Wah, seriously bro, i got a fren who're looking for a cheap 210. Which shop are willing to sell it at 1k? Thanks smile.gif
*

QUOTE(N33d @ Apr 3 2010, 02:54 PM)
have some dilemma, hope can hear some opinions from u so that i wont regret in the future by making the wrong choice.

1) if i do not wish to buy more lenses(upgrade), does that mean i would be better by sticking to premium compact?
2) how about the cost of maintaining a DSLR?
3) is portability the main issue of dslr?
4) how are the reactions of ppl when u point ur dslr at them compare to a compact in public place?
*
1) hard to say. anyway, if u buy any basic DSLR with 18-55 kit lens, u still can get much2 better colours and bokeh than any compacts out there. but if ur priority is zoom range, then it's better to stick with a superzoom that can go 10x or 12x. also, DSLRs under 2k no video recording function..if u want that lah
2) not sure about this, never did any maintaining to my DSLR before. the only 'maintenance' i do is to use it everyday to avoid fungus. no cost then tongue.gif
3) yeap. that's why i decided to keep my compact instead of selling it...sometimes a compact camera is more suitable for an occasion. imagine u go to some formal function... ;p
4) i think what camera u point at them doesnt really matter as much as ur attitude. if u can be polite, u use cameraphone also ppl will give u positive reaction smile.gif

*
yes got AF motor. 450D is good, but since ur budget 3500, juz get better one lah. or u could juz get the 450D 1st, n save the ~1.3k difference for a future lens/flash

Guys,

Need some help

Before you guys flame and stuff, I've read alot regarding 550D and D90. I'm new to dSLR but did alot of readings with terms and what they mean.
http://www.digitalreview.ca/content/Canon-...Nikon-D90.shtml
Seems to show that D90 is better

is there anyone that can advice on my purchase?

I would mostly take pictures of food.. will definitely be using for family outings and indoor environments.
Which one would be more ideal ? any D90 or Canon 550D users?

Also, please, don't be bias with the brand just tell me your experiences if any?
Advice greatly appreciated!  smile.gif
*
D90 is better than 550D. it's "another level up", same with the 50D .but the recent price drop makes it a very attractive choice. the 550D should be compared with the nikon D5000. anyway, if u like to take pictures of food, people, n indoor i recommend u get the D90 with Nikkor 50mm f1.8D. it's a great lens for those purposes n only around rm400 smile.gif

I'm buying this camera for the school. So a bit tight on the budget. Will consider 2nd hand. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
*
if u're going for 2nd hand, find either a D40 (900-1200) or D60 (1200-1500) instead. that way u'll save some money n get to spend on more important stuff like prime lens or flash smile.gif also u probably can get a used D80 for rm2000, mebe slightly more

QUOTE(flashout @ Apr 7 2010, 12:15 AM)
I m not a pro yet, just using camera to cari "makan". Existing, I m using sony alpha 100, for simple shooting for customer office, factory and products.

Now I got new project, and plan to test out on video. So was thinking to get an upgrade. But too bad sony did not come out with any video for the DSLR.

So, end up looking into Nikon and Canon. First, I plan to go for Nikon D90, which i think its good enough and price very good some more, due to recent price drop.

But last week, went out model shooting with my friend, a canon supporter. He lend me and to test out canon 7D and 5D. Walau eh! The result were fantastic. Try out some video.. damn nice. For sure 5D its out of my budget, some more I m not that pro also. But was considering 7D.

So far, in the review, I read alot and tons of positive feedback on canon 7D, but for serious, any negative feedback on this body?

Pls help, I need to decide on this week, as next week will goto customer place. :-)
*
well 7D sure beat D90 lah tongue.gif if u got money for canon 7D, consider Nikon D300s and Lumix GH1 too

ic. oh..prime lens..... I think I'll go read up abit on prime lens. I read before can only remember something abotu fixed focal length.

Thanks bro!
*
yeap2 fixed focal length, cannot zoom. u try google for sample shots taken with 50mm f1.8. it's the cheapest lens already hehe, can get 2nd hand if u want. or just buy D90 kit 1st, n save the difference. later i figure out what to buy. no need to rush

thank for the enlight.
i not that pro in camera thing, just a starter.
seem like both camera also have it own pro and con.
this really make me headache rclxub.gif
hope can heard more comment from LX3 and S90 user here.
*
do u like landscape shots? if yes then LX3 for sure...later on u get the LW46E wide angle converter biggrin.gif

honestly i havent played with S90 myself, but it never made me think "damn i wish i bought s90 instead of this lx3!". comparing features, both are pretty similar. but lx3 looks more stylish tongue.gif even more if u get the leather casing heheh. juz my 2 cents hoho

hi there, i'm using a Nikon D40 now, bought it earlier this year for Photography Studies. i think i need an upgrade liao. is there any new zooming lens suitable for my D40? like the lens for the D80 & Canon 300D? Need professional advice here  sweat.gif

coz i think my dslr zooming not very powerful liao D:, unlike my digital camera  tongue.gif
*
D80 lens is the 18-135mm right? now got 18-105 (d90 kit lens), which is much better because got VR. shud b ~rm1100

btw u shud state ur budget lah bro. if unlimited, get nikkor 70-200 f2.8 VR.. around 7k only ma biggrin.gif

if u want all-in-one lens to replace ur 18-55 kit lens, get nikkor 18-200 VR, ~rm2.7k. the range is very nice, but quality so-so only lah. if u want a zoom lens in addition to kit lens, u can get 55-200 VR (~1k) or 70-300 VR double the price

juz make sure the lens is AF-S kind, not just AF or AF-D

hmm..sorry la for judging eh, but it doesnt look like u know much about DSLR here.. really wanna spend 20k?

you'd be much better off with D3S + 70-200 2.8 combo. the slightly smaller aperture can be compensated with the D3S high ISO for low light, n bokeh and quality is better cuz of FF compared to crop sensor. n u wont be stuck with only 200mm

generally 18-105 better for starter la, more versatile. the 50mm is very good for portraits, still life n food but kinda useless for scenery, indoors etc tongue.gif n camwhore mmg can see ur nose only haha

but then the 50mm is just around rm400. get both if u can hehe

d40 n d60 are obsolete already...if u want brand new get D3000 kit.

if u dun mind 2nd hand, u can get d40 kit for about 1k or d60 about 1.4k, n spend the balance on another lens or flash smile.gif

wat is the differences btween nikkor 50mm f1.8D and nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G ?

coz i find out that both lens hold the same price... ohmy.gif
is 50mm f1.8D better than nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6G? sorry for noob question...  sweat.gif

my only suggestion is dont buy if that's what u're thinking. read up what is focal length and aperture 1st. u'll understand the difference later

those two lens are for very different purposes. also, if u're using d40, d60, d3000 or d5000...dont bother with either lens. u cannot autofocus with those two
