Guys my aro still rejecting the pellets laa...how laaa....aiya...
hey Izwan bro

how long you have been starving your aro and what size is your aro?
what type of aro pellets you are feeding as well?
As much as i can say there are few factors that contribute to how long it will take to get aro to eat pellets...
1) age of aro...if its like an adult oledy then frankly speakings you are attempting mission impossible.......the younger the aro the easier and faster it will accept pellets cuz its still at its fast growing stages..
2) the pellets you are feeding will depend on the taste/smell and looks.....to my experience i've tried hikari aro/azoo aro/tetra aro /hikari koi and e-shrimp (dried shrimps) and some really cheap sa pellets...
our of all these only the tetra aro pellets and e-shrimp have success and this has led me to believe is becuz my arowana is more tuned to shrimpy taste....any pellets that dont taste or smell like shrimp it will ignore...
so this also depends on which taste your arowana is more tuned to as well...you need to discover thru expense...no choice wan
3) the tank mates...if you have a lot of lampang / koi / ff with your aro...it will stimulate competition for food....and to this you really need...a lot! like those talapia ponds...all rushing towards the bread you throw there like hungry zombies....
4) the food you have been feeding it before....if its already had insects for its staple diet then its gonna be really hard cuz insects are like our sex feeling to them....its so addictive its hard to break off...
what can be done here is to slowly and surely get the arowana to accept mp first...and only mp for its diet for like a month.....thats when it wud've probably forgotten what insects were or tasted like...
then only can start to introduce pellets by completely giving it pellets only...cuz they will find that pellets taste better than mp since mp is...quite almost tasteless...
at this stage, i wud recommend tetra arowana since its closest taste to mp and shrimps...
5) most ppl dont take notice of this part.....the water parameters play a large role on this....so this will depend on your arowana type you are keeping....
personally i've had many ppl tell me their red arowana have more appetite when its at their natural ph level of 6.5-7
how true this is i'm not sure...cuz i've never attempted to mess with the ph....take note that stability of ph is more important than preferred ph. Imho trying to attain a ph of below 7.4 is like playing with fire...
cuz you think about it...our tap water ph is at 7.5 avg for every household i've surveyed around...sometimes it can be at 7.8 or 7.5....but take note...the tap water has never and probably will never be at 6.5-7
so by trying to use methods to make your ph below 7.4 is to cause headache for yourself only....which in turn is risky cuz aro can die to ph shock...EASILY...
i prefer to let my ph stay at 7.5 and just do wc like no worries in the world cuz its the same as tap water ph...my aro is doing very well so thats y i din believe in all that aro will be best at acidic ph level etc....thats just kiasu talk to me.. lol
for water parameters just try to keep water clean and make sure the left over foods are always taken out....
from other forums i've been introduced to ocean free pure liquid....i've been using for a month already...i've noticed that it really has helped boost my aro's appetite and its probly cuz of the good water parameters this product helps to bring about....healthier environment = healthier fish = better appetite ....logical..but experience will say that equation also = more money outta the pocket
well thats all i can say for now i guess

but i dunno if my opinion is the right case here cuz i've oledy given up and gone back to stuffing the mp with the pellets xD
at least its still accepting the dried e-shrimp lol
Overall my experience with pellets training was a very mentally and emotionally painful one...
btw guys...i noticed my red's cheeks are starting to develop more and more color! its slow but its really starting to show.....cuz i dont have a good camera with macro shot function i cant show >.<
i'm struggling to work harder and buy a good camera like you guys to take these beautiful pix
