imagine something like a postman. when u got a mail/parcel/anything, the postman will send to u. this is push

a 'pull' would be u have to go post office everyday n check whether u got anything or not. so this is not efficient

so what happens is when someone send u a message, what happens is the message go to whatsapp server > whatsapp server tells apple server u got message > apple tells u u got message (the popup) > u read the message

Been using whatsapp on bb for quite some time, but gonna switch to i4 today. May I ask how can I transfer my whatsapp acc from bb to i4. Do I still need to wait for the confirmation code?

Reason I m asking is bcos my bb whatsapp acc is registered to maxis line, but somehow it's still working even I swap to another overseas sim card (I m on overseas biz trip now).

Most of my fren only have my Malaysia contact, so I still wish to use maxis whatsapp account on i4, pls advise if it's possible. And btw, my maxis sim can't seem to find local network here.

Thx.

The way whatsapp work is it detects your contact lists based on your phonebook, so as long as you sync'ed ur phonebook with your new iPhone 4. your contacts will be there..

Switching to iPhone4, you have buy the app for a one-off payment of 99cents, and yes you have to activate again and register ur number with it when you first open it in iPhone... No worries, as long as it's the same phone, no matter what sim card you change, it would still work the same as it will still use ur maxis number u registered... i.e. Ppl with ur maxis number will be able to see u in their contact list..

Thanks eugene, but the problem is that dunno y maxis sim don't hv roaming here. N thus dun think I will b able register using maxis sim since I will not b able to receive the 3digit confirmation code.

And let's say I register with this overseas sim, none of my fren have this number, so how can I whatsapp them. Looks like I hv 2 wait till 3mths later when i get back to m'sia.

Last question, r we allow to register using the same sim on both bb n i4? Meaning both device use 1 single acc.

You can register with this overseas sim, BUT the downside is your friends won't know who you are unless you tell them.. You can still text them cause they're on ur contact list..

Same sim on 2 devices, I am not very sure to be honest.. I think it's possible.. Personally I have tried registering the same number on the same blackberry twice cause I had to reinstall whatsapp when I upgraded my Bold to OS6

Added on May 1, 2011, 7:34 pmHow come ur maxis don't have roaming? That's weird.. If not a method is you can put the maxis sim onto another phone but register ur iPhone4 whatsapp with that number, then u can receive the activation code on the other phone without changing sims..

I am using Maxis Hotlink (prepaid) and a Nokia N86 8MP with the latest WhatApp Symbian v2.6.8 installed.

I should say it really is an awesome app. You can cross-chat with people who have WhatsApp installed on their phones too, be it iPhone, BlackBerry, or Android phones.

Another good thing about it is that you don't need any ID (unlike Blackberry Messenger) and upon start-up, the app will automatically scan the contacts in your phone and will identify who already have WhatsApp too. Those who have WhatsApp are listed under "Favourites".
Some of my friends who use BlackBerry Messenger don't even know the phone numbers of the friends. They only know their BBM IDs. Lols. With WhatsApp, your phone number is your ID.

I am using the Maxis RM3/week (quota: 5MB) and it really is enough. Unless of course you are a very heavy user, chatting all the time, sending images, audio files etc.
Another good thing about WhatsApp is that it can use WiFi. So whenever I'm at home, I use WiFi.
This way, you can save a lot of money. Pay only RM3/week, and you can stay connected all the time just like using BlackBerry messenger.
Sending and receiving messages does not consume a lot of data bytes.
Newer versions of WhatsApp have been very efficient in terms of the data usage. It seems that now my data usage is less than how it used to be even though I chat even more frequently.

As for the battery life of your phone, it really depends. If you use WhatsApp often (by that, not only leave the App open, but really use it for chatting), then yes, it will drain your battery faster.

While not in use, it does not affect your battery life that much. Maybe if it takes you 1 charge every 2 days, now you'll only need to charge it once every 1.5 days. If used frequently, then you might need to charge it once a day or even more often.

I think the favs list will only appear if u got ppl in ur phonebook using the app. If no one use it, it will be empty.
