WhatsApp Messenger

As stated from the title, this is a topic for people using WhatsApp messenger and prefer it more to PING!
Unlike Ping! which u could ping anyone just by knowing their usernames, WhatsApp Messenger synchronises with ur phonebook to check anyone who is using the App as well and no add is required! So it means that you can only text people in ur phonebook who uses the application. Well basically this has both Pros n Cons and it is beneficial for someone who wants more privacy and doesn't want to get texted by random people, and its more troublesome cause you would have to get ur fren's number and add him/her into ur phonebook in order to text him/her. There's another good thing as well, which is you could update ur status for people to see and you can know when's the last time someone logged in their whatsapp.

In the Ping! thread, I've noticed quite a lot of ppl uses whatsapp as well so I might as well open a new thread specifically about it. Previously, some ppl could register their number and some ppl can't because the app itself says it's not available in Malaysia, but I think one of our forum members found a definite way to get the app to work in Malaysia.

Had faced the same problem as u do for 3 weeks after I downloaded WhatsApp. Only today then I figured out the clue to make it worked.

Check did u key in ur phone number in ur iPhone by checking on Settings > Phone > My Number . If the field is empty, then key in ur phone number then register WhatsApp again. I got mine to work with this trick. Hopefully it works for u too. laugh.gif

P/s: According to one of the forumer that emailed WhatsApp team, they mentioned that up coming v2.3 will officially support Malaysia telco. thumbup.gif

WhatsApp Messenger is still free at the moment, so guys, get it while it's free!! It's really an amazing app and so far I haven't experienced any crashes at all!

TS, I got another finding from recent problem with WhatApps.

Whenever you swap the simcard, you need to update your phone number. If you didn't change it with the new simcard number, the WhapApps will stop responding.
*
Really? I think that's just normal since you DO have to know someone's number if you want to text him/her right? So no point in the piracy advantage if people can still text you after you changed to another simcard, obviously you would need to update ur phone number as well. Well that's the part which is different from BBM then.

@eugenechiuu,
Act the BB WhatsApp is available, except it's not supported in our country! A friend of mine in SG is on the BB WhatsApp but my bro-in-law couldn't get his working sad.gif
*
Oh thx for the info! I think it was just released recently only is it? I've just checked it out, it's $2.99 for BB whatsapp.. was hoping I could text my BB frens but the BB version is quite pricey compared to the iPhone's ><

Is ur fren from SG using the whatsapp smoothly without any issues?

I got my WhatsApp when it was still free. That time they said it doesn't work on Msia but then again it does back then smile.gif
So far I personally think that it's way better than Ping and BBM. One is that it just searched based on the phonebook. If ping you need to ask first if anyone installed one and another is that what is the username. Kinda leceh. Sometimes you can't keep track of your phonebook on who have the iphone or not. BBM the leceh part is need to get the number.
Maybe the possible drawback of Whatsapp is that sometimes you don't want to give your number to others but just want to give them your ID which Ping will make perfect sense. Then again what are the chances of every single one person have an Iphone with ping installed and with you not wanting to give your number to them? Unlikely...

It's another totally different apps? I assumed either BB whatsapp will work only for whatsapp and BBM and normal whatsapp only for whatsapp? I wished they just integrate both. Then I just need to upgrade this one sad.gif
*
Nope, the whatsapp for Blackberry enables cross texting with iPhone's whatsapp... Few days ago when tinkerbel told me about it, it was still on the Blackberry Appworld, now it's not available again.. They did stated u could text with iPhone's whatsapp....

So BB user need to have Whatsapp for BB? If they are offering it free maybe alot of BB user will download it to the benefit of growing iPhone Whatsapp fanbase. Quite a number of BB users are there for the BBM instead of normal "office" usage I think.
*
Yea they need to buy that App in order to text with Iphone whatsapp users... Well in long term it's worthed for BB users who have a lot of frens using iPhone... Still, if the price is lower then it would attract more ppl to buy it...

Here is the website

*
I think it's a matter of the phone number that u have set in ur phone.. Try checking ur own phone number whether it's been set correctly on ur own phone?

Just curious to know how this works if, let's say, WhatsApp gets an update - can everyone else update it on their own? Or will they need your iTunes account info/password?

I got my WhatsApp when it was free, so while I know I can download it onto my siblings' phones, I'm wondering what will happen if it gets an upgrade - whether or not I have to share my iTunes password with them...
*
well, if ur sibling's phone ever needs an update, you just need to type in ur pw once in their phone to update it for them

I can't get what u mean"Try checking ur own phone number whether it's been set correctly on ur own phone?"but shouldn be wrong number cause we been calling each many times just not sure y can't add him  other friends np lol
*
Lol I thought i sounded confusing myself...

What i mean is the number on the iPhone itself..

Go to settings --> phone --> my number

Try check whether it's really the same number as ur simcard...

Haha... I have been using it since it was released and it was FREE that time... I tried to get as many friends to download it that time even if they didn't use it because no harm done... Now including ppl from Blackberry using it, I have quite a lot of contacts on my list also

hey guys, just downloaded whatsapp, seems cool, already tried with my bb fren, btw, can we change our number after the 1st registration? what if im using another sim card with diffrent number, coz i can only detect my friend  in whatsapp using his old number, thnks
*
Hmm... For the iPhone version, you just need to change the number stated on ur phone in Settings --> Phone, the 'my number' just change to your new number then whatsapp would automatically use that number..

Would be perfect if we can call over 3G using Whatsapp. Any app that can text and call online, that builds the contact list according to our contact's phone number would be king.
*
Sadly such apps would never go through the appstore just like the google phone last time...

I think Skype began to charge for VOIP calls since September? Initially it wasn't allowed until Apple removed the VOIP restrictions..
