btw u use hot water, as in baru boiled water, it will break down the yeast.. as in render it useless! yeast has its optimum temperature for its reaction with the sugar to produce co2, when u go exceed the temperature, the yeast breaks down, if u go below the optimum temperature, no co2 reaction will happen!

Added on March 25, 2010, 11:11 pmi had a MASSIVE BBA attack on the first month i got my co2 tank! all i did was regulate a steady flow of co2 and a shorter photo period, kaotim! after second month BBA never grew back.

Added on March 25, 2010, 11:17 pmactually the sugar disolves only into sugar water, and its just in a liquid form.. when we say "dissolving the sugar" we are referring that we want the sugar to slowly get dissolved by the yeast..

add hot water = sugar water

what we mean by "we want the sugar to dissolve slowly" is the sugar dissolves into co2! and also produce alcohol lah

sugar water = disolves faster

rock sugar = dissolves slower

coke has about i think 30 - 40% sugar in it? sure pressure oso kao lah haha

Plus, they already have CO2 dissolved in the COKE also. that is y it bubble when we open the lid

michanz, too low co2 will cause bba ? currently im make it about 0.5bps, its enough for the riccia to pearl.

aiyo...my 5 kg tank refill rm 20 nia... can use more than 8 months...

not really low co2, its unstable co2! we using manual mah right... my advise, since i kena liao, all i did is shorter photo period and increase abit the co2 and try to keep it stable.. for now u will see bba everywhere.. after few weeks bba will gone!

also what i did, based on chuppys advice, clean ur filter, manual removal, then change water..

btw i also added 5 SAE into the tank.. they really eat bba!

my co2 is like 1bubble every 3 second! the good thing is that my co2 diffusor damn kheng, the bubble so small that it goes flows downwards lol!
fish still can tahan, our shrimps, kenot tahan high co2 will jump out! summore he got alot of baby shrimplets in tank lagi kenot tahan 1

hahaha... because of wan refill the co2 , travel to kajang also another cost already, for here refill 2L tank is about rm30. just wait about 3 hours.

i did clean the canister filter ( cotton ), water change each weeks, but my photosynthesis period up to 10 hours some time. ( wanna see the tank longer time )

lol 2liter for rm 30 and wait 3 hours?? that's sucks... my place refill rm 30 for 5kg... and only takes 1 min... haha !!
