i don't think we should blame Henry, as player he need continue the game until referee blew the whistle, i 100% blame FIFA (for not use video tech like tennis and rugby or use other referee in penalty box) and referee+linesman

let image u play for Malaysia in World Cup play off and use ur hand to assist before ur teammate score, did u go to ref and tell it handball?just the same thing about Maradona`s hand of god case

nobody takes 100% of the blame. henry and yes fifa for failing to implement the use of replays should be held responsible. easily avoidable if they'd just step out from the stone age. instead of hiding behind the guise of ' the exciting and unpredictable nature of football.' oh hell yes its exciting beyond belief..especially when your team doesn't get the short end of the stick.

if it was a malaysian player i wouldn't want him doing that in the first place. let him get the plaudits for the right reasons and be able to hold his head up high, firm in the belief that he gave his all in a good, fair contest of football.
like O-haiyo said, why resort to such measures. you don't play well enough, you get knocked out. plain and simple.

Cantona bares his teeth at Domenech and Henry

QUOTE
Former France international and Manchester United legend Eric Cantona launched his singular type of blast at both Raymond Domenech and Thierry Henry after his national team reached the World Cup at the expense of Ireland, and, in the case of Henry, by foul means rather than fair.

"I think that Raymond Domenech is the worst coach in French football since Louis XVI," Cantona told reporters at a press conference ahead of a beach soccer tournament due to take place in his hometown of Marseille. French king Louis XVI was the monarch executed by French revolutionaries in 1793 after the revolution of 1789. He is commonly depicted as an indecisive, dithering monarch.

"If it was up to me, I'd put (Bordeaux coach) Laurent Blanc in charge of the France team," the former Manchester United hero continued. "He continues the season with Bordeaux, he wins the league with Bordeaux and he wins the World Cup! I'm not the only one who thinks that..."

Cantona, nowadays an actor of some acclaim and coach of France's beach soccer team, also criticised the attitude of Thierry Henry, whose handball set up France's winning goal in their 2-1 aggregate play-off victory over the Republic of Ireland.

"What shocked me most wasn't the handball, honestly," said Cantona. "What shocked me most was that at the end of the match, in front of the television cameras, this player (Henry) went and sat down next to an Irish player to console him, even though he'd screwed them three minutes earlier.

"If I'd been Irish, he wouldn't have lasted three seconds."

guess who talking?..the way he attacked the fan back in his days the only thing he should be proud of..

i was thinking, they said by using video replay will hang/interrupt/waste time...

what if there going to be 2 referees, the one who sit and monitor the match not in the field but in a special room, all he need to do is watch the match via television with different angle of view to help him, incase something went wrong for example "henry case", after he review the goal which probably took him less than 10 sec(if counted probably will be equal to the player goal celebration) he can immediately contact the official ref in the field about what he saw and will make the world of difference for the ref interms of making accurate decision..by using this method, they not only safe time but also help to avoid silly mistake by both ref and the player.. nod.gif

There has to be more voice to support video playback, there has to be more newspaper columnist blaming the correct people, which is the Football Referee's Association who have been lobbying FIFA against implementing video playback.

<rant against Referees>
It's idiotic to blame the player, because he could have been anybody. If the ball hit your hand and went in and as a result your country gets go to go World Cup, how else would you expect a player to behave. The blame is squarely on the Referee's Association for refusing to use technology, and they give keep giving banal justifications for refusing to do so. As a result we see so many dirty plays in football, like divers, play actors and people who use dirty tactics to get the opponent carded out (eg Materazzi).

It is stupid for the newspaper columnist to go on the attack against players when incidents like these happen while they pay no attention to why these incidents happens in the first place.

Thierry Henry considered quitting over handball outcry

QUOTE
Thierry Henry has claimed that the vitriolic response to his handball against Republic of Ireland led him to consider his future at international level.

Henry was widely criticised last week when his clear handling of the ball allowed the striker to set up William Gallas for the goal that took France to the World Cup finals at the expense of Giovanni Trapattoni's side.

Unflattering comparisons were drawn between Henry and Diego Maradona, who famously produced his 'Hand of God' moment against England at the 1986 World Cup, while commentators speculated whether his legacy would be forever sullied.

Henry - who issued a statement on Friday saying a replay would be the fairest way to settle the row, after FIFA had ruled out such a scenario - feels that the French Football Federation (FFF) did not offer him enough support and considered exiling himself from the finals following outcry across Europe.

"Oh yes," Henry told L'Equipe. "Friday, when it all went too far, I was very worked up. It's not the first time (that I thought about retiring).

"After the 2006 World Cup, I thought about it, but it was too early. After Euro 2008, too, but it wasn't the right moment. There was a generation that needed me.

"Despite everything that has just happened and the fact that I felt let down, I will not let my country down.

"The day after the match, and the day after that, I felt alone, really alone. It was only after I issued my statement that the people from the French Federation got in touch."

Henry did, however, concede that he should not have celebrated the goal so wildly as Ireland's hopes of a famous result in the play-offs were dashed in such controversial fashion. He said: "I shouldn't have done that but, frankly, it was uncontrollable, after all we had been through."

After Henry admitted a replay would be the fairest way to settle the game, Ireland captain Robbie Keane praised the striker and called on the FFF to make their own representations to FIFA. However, they refused to do so and the result stands.

Henry insists that his support for a replay existed before he learnt that FIFA had ruled out the possibility of staging another game and denies that his statement was merely an exercise in PR.

The striker said: "We worked on this release with my lawyer without knowledge that the international federation would meet the same day on the subject."

Depends if Nasri & Benzema can place their differences aside.
Can Nasri shushs his critics again with his one finger salute in front of his lips?
