Yep its true, however you can still open the account without ATM card, and tell them you'll pick up the ATM card later when its available.

Its their job to try to upsell you, you can just insist you want to open that account as its listed on their website. I think its actually a Bank Negara regulation that all banks must provide an option for savings account with no fees, which is why most banks have it but try their best to cover it up with their other more profitable choices.

I did do this 2 years ago. Back then they only offered the debit MasterCard (orange color). Initially they insisted that i open a regular savings account but i showed them their very own brochure that i got from the main banking hall and i also insisted that i wanted to open the non-fee basic savings account. At the end they gave in


Yes. You are right. Basic Savings/Current Account is a BNM regulated banking product and must be offered by all commercial banks in Malaysia.

i hate them when I have asked them 3 times wanted to apply basic savings without annual fees..they keep insisting tell me to take RM20 .!

recently my ATM Card was retained by ATM Machine.
When i tried to get replacement card from RHB, I was also been advised that RHB no longer printing any ATM Card. So RHB staff said if you want ATM Card you wait la... else get debit card which they can issue immediate. I refused the offer and complaint to RHB call center after that.
The call center don't even know there is such Basic saving option 1 free with ATM Card. I even took an hour to explain to the staff, manager in the call center. really wasting my time and they still dont trust me.
I think BNM shall take action on this. But after i complaint with BNM. they replied email saying I should deal with RHB first.
So i tried to call RHB again finally got an ATM card. I dont know how they find a card for me. anyway, if ATM "eat" my card again... the staff said.. they cannot guarentee can find another replacement card. I am just so angry with the bank on this matter.
So i hope each of you also complaint such case to BNM when you face this problem. Else i think other banks will follow this bank steps.

Hi I am Vino from India. Currently I am in malaysia and working here. I went to RHB bank and asked for opening a savings account. My company doesn't have account with RHB. Any other alternate ways to open the account ?

They didn't allow me to open the account.

No, you cannot even cancel your account through the telephone. All the bank account cancellations must be done in person at your home branch, because a fingerprint verification is needed.

Better not, yearly monthly fee of rm8 for ATM card facility.. also I still have some cash inside, better close the account and get back the cash..

most of the malaysia banks i have all issue me with debit cards for sav account.. no problem for me since 1 year pay 1 time..

for inactive i just terminate and close sav acc haha..

better use current acc
