While talking on the phone with a battery of 50%, the iPhone went dead. Nothing.. No sign of activity even when connected to the computer or the charger.

This is bad. Have to go Maxis center today.

It is 3Gs model. Got it in mid September. So it is less than 60 days. Tried all sort of stuff, including soft and hard reset.

Went to MAxis Gardens and they told me to wait to get replacement set from Singapore. And they told me to wait for 2-4 weeks...

Added on November 12, 2009, 10:09 pmI wonder how many people have this problem with a dead iPhone....

That is what they told me but I asked them how sure are they it is not a refurbished unit.... The answer is not certain.

They would prolly have to invite you to their manufacturing facility just to convince you its not a refurbished unit.

@CLL,
So it's confirmed as a defect and not just battery indicator issue?

I talked to a guy from Switch earlier. Apparently during their training prior to the launch of the iphone, they were told that any warranty claims by the customers regarding the iphone will be dealt on a 1 to 1 replacement basis on the spot.

However, due to the current low volume of stocks, that is currently not possible...customers still have to wait for any warranty claims.....

1 to 1 replacement yes...but not on the spot (according to Maxis)

They want to send to Singapore Apple to verify it first. And then they will send one over (according to the Maxis CS guy)

@tinkerbel
Not a battery issue. I tried all sorts of nonsense. If it is battery, maybe battery just died which is possible but I think a bit unlikely.

my friend had the same problem, sent it back to Maxis, and waited 4 weeks, got a sms/call from Maxis asking him to pick up, and sadly he got back the same set of his, reason is because he jailbroken his iPhone and void the software warranty, so he got back his old same set without fixing the problem.. so thats a waste of 4 weeks..and what he has now is a faulty iPhone....how sad..

Under those circumstances, it is your friend who is at fault for not restoring the phone before sending in for warranty claim. But what I don't understand is why it took Maxis 4 weeks to return the unit.

Not totally in defense of the iPhone but from experience, the other equivalent and I use this term loosely, phones have more problems which are even more difficult to rectify most times. Tell me also, which other phone has a one-for-one exchange policy?

Lastly, if you actually know what to do instead trial and error, there should not be too much problems affecting the iPhone. In any event, which phone, for that matter, product which does not have problems?

Don't be scared of such problems. I am sure mine is the minority and the majority of iPhones out there are fine and stable. Sometimes, you just can't tell. It is an excellent phone and an excellent smartphone. Just that in my case, something went wrong someway... rclxub.gif

True, that's a nightmare for any Maxis jailbreak users. If they can't even bootup to restore in the first place, then it's big risk to take.

Yup, that is the current situation. As I had mentioned earlier, the initial plan was to provide a 1 to 1 replacement on the spot. However, as currently there are not enough stock in hand, it is not handled in such way.

Maxis service is unbelievable!

Unbelievable terrible...but why am I surprised?!?

Called them up regarding my replacement. They promised they will get feedback for me but they never get back to me. Every time I called, they are jsut so blur and kept pushing the blame somewhere.

This is not only for Maxis users, but any units that you sent in for warranty claims that has been jailbroken will have the warranty voided.

This is partly due to too many cases being given 1:1 replacements, even when its merely just a software issue

@CLL,
If you use Twitter, Maxis is on Twitter and from my personal experience they're pretty efficient in escalating your issues up. Go to @maxiscomms and make a complain and be impressed at their service there *smiles*

PS: No wonder you didn't reply my numerous messages (via Ping! & WhatsApp) - but I got the answer; was asking if you got ur replacement and if all is fine tongue.gif

Yup, of which is the problem to begin with. Such 1:1 replacements for software (ie. OS) related issues are not supposed to happen, but there's too many cases of such (due to the people at the retail outlets not being able to troubleshoot the problem, and just assume that its a faulty phone)

JB'ed iPhones will render the warranty null and void. So, before sending it in for warranty claims, make sure the phone is restored to its original state. Once restored, no one is the wiser as to what you did with the iPhone earlier.

As someone pointed out, if you can't switch on the iPhone, how to revert back to original status....

I understand that they want to take time to verify the problem before sending back replacement but I am surprised now at this time and age, they are taking an awful long long time.... doh.gif

Unfortunately, this is just so so Malaysian.
I told them that I understand gadgets can be spoilt and that it may take time to get replacement. I feel that at least, they should let me know what is the status, instead of just waiting and waiting.

Sure. Don't worry.
I took your advice.
Twittered Maxis and they replied in less than 6 hours requesting for a DM for more details.
Hopefully they can be more accountable and professional.

@CLL,
I "complained" about Maxis via Twitter and the next thing I knew they sent me a message and asked me to DM them my issue. The issue was resolved pretty quickly *smiles* Since then, I've tried using them on 2 other different occasions and found their response pretty prompt; was amazed hence recommended it to U.

Yeah, I also pointed out that by sending a JB'ed iPhone in for warranty claim is a non-starter. When they discover that it is, the phone will be blacklisted permanently thereby rendering it without any more warranty. Isn't it better therefore to get some techie to get the phone up and running and only then, if necessary, send in the unit? Otherwise not only do you not get the phone repaired/replaced, you lose your warranty forever.

Really not sure if they can verify the phone has been JB or not but Apple may have their own way.

An update on my status : Maxis called me up 2 days ago and told me to collect my replacement iphone next Friday. That would be exactly after 4 weeks since i sent for replacement. When queried about the delay, they were apologetic and quote the ever famous line "world wide shortage".

Felt it is almost like a mantra for Maxis.....

Supposed to collect my iPhone today and then Maxis called me up and told me that the shipment is delayed. They do not know when it will be here.

Horrendous service! Unbelievable. I have to wait longer to get a replacement iPhone than I had to wait to get my iPhone.

I do kind of regret getting the iPhone. You paid so much and you get crap service. I think I would have been better getting a Nokia or even a BB!
