Because in order to get the maps, you need to subscribe to the service (unlike the garminXT which has built in maps).
But so far no telco in Malaysia supports this yet...and the rate will be killing unless you are using unlimited 3g

As of today, Garmin for iPhone only has maps for US. The maps are not downloaded, and must use data-plan to download as you move.

There are no maps for other countries yet. You can't download MFM/MSM map into it.

We have to wait for the next release of Garmin for iPhone.

Not necessary, most of the GPS app is function just like other ordinary GPS navigation devices, the map is actually stored in the phone, it doesn't need to load the map details from the internet during navigation.

Example GPS app: Papago, TomTom, all these app can do off-line navigation, i.e. they don't need internet connection for navigation.

owh.mean if i off 3g n data i still can use papago GPS? nice!!!.
One more thing, if we off 3g and data can we still receive MMS or send MMS ?

cannot mate...u need to turn on 3g/data before sending or receiving mms..its becoz mms need cellular data/3g network to establish the connection with the telco server... nod.gif

But i confuse a bit. if off 3g n data cant received MMS how come GPS can function?from what i know, papago still need internet connection for starting up but only about few bytes only right?

actually they dont need any data connection for turning direction..most of them only need some connection if u want to know latest traffic status or accidents area...kindly refer to THIS link n read further on it.. nod.gif

Yeah,it's work for PaPaGo without DATA ,but you can't receive MMS/MSG if you close the DATA smile.gif

This I not sure..So far ,I'm using maxis prepaid but I off the 3G roaming (because always get extra charge ),I can use it like normal ,send or receive msg.

no la, if u off 3G and Cellular Data, MMS won't work, SMS no problem
