Vidic is a no-nonsense type of defender. Would glad to have a player "like" him. But not him of course. He was shortlisted for the UEFA defender of the year..but of course john terry won.

Btw, something about rafa's total transfer:

Rafa Benitez's £229m spending spree: The 76 players signed during the Liverpool manager's reign

good read-up on the players who came in and out throughout the last five years.

although the title sounds like RB is wasting a lot of money in his transfer deals for the same duration, the article's stats show that almost every player that came in during RB's reign were sold at a profit, bar robbie keane.

It was just a case of rubbing it on the skin in the affected area, and it is incredible to be playing again so soon.’

LOL! easy man.

Yeah, just like carragher, when he was outpaced by Zamora, he would do his usual dirty trick (pulling down players) and getting red carded....
and i don't see u calling that old hack dirty?

i know it's frustrating for u as a liverpool's fan here.
5 years, 70+ players traded, it wasn't even christmas yet, and liverpool has failed miserably on almost every major competition....

but don't fret, have faith in benitez (i mean blind faith), there is always miracles...
remember how bunny did miracles in istanbul with Gerrad Houllier's poor man team ??

even if all didn't go according to plan, there is still the carling cup to fight for!

Anybody else agrees that perhaps Skrtel isn't good enough? If possible, I would like to see him and the Greek sold in the summer if the price is right. Then using available funds (And addition from Masch's sale if he is leaving) to buy a solid CB to partner with Agger. Someone who is dominant in the air and less prone to be outdone by pace. A Vidic-type of player. Then Carra will play Hyypia's role last season while we promote Kelly/Ayala as 4th choice CB.

Of course, all of these depends on whether Agger would put his back problem behind him once & for all and if Rafa gets to spend from the sale of players.
Despite the arguments that have been put forth in support of Skrtel, it's hard to deny that he's been a pale shadow of himself after twice being turned over by England while representing his native country. I personally expect him to be a little more dominant in the air given his frame. His positional sense has also been suspect this season. Maybe it's a temporary loss in form, or maybe it's the way the game has changed but I think that in general, many centrebacks are beginning to make an increasing number of mistakes as forwards get quicker and faster.

That all being said, we have become really suspect in the air.

QUOTE
You will all remember this season…

This article was written by ‘El Campeador’. It does not necessarily represent the views LFCGlobe.com.

A wise old man was on the phone to me last night, pontificating about the fact that football is on ten months a year.

“Win, lose, get your arse handed to you: you always know there’s a game on once a week. Sometimes, we have 2 games a week. And if we’re really lucky, we’ve 3 matches in 8 days,” he proclaimed, as if he never wanted to get off the train, no matter how shaky the ride became.

We all know what sacrifices that ride demands of us: every day of our lives, we bay at our next enemy, arranging our lives around that ninety spellbinding minutes of royal red gliding upon glorious green.

There’s no getting off this train. Matches come, and matches go, and as Liverpool supporters, we’re blessed to win more than our fair share of them. Our history is full of legendary tales of legendary victories, stunning cup triumphs, and thumpings of our fiercest rivals. Mostly, though, our club’s seasons are remembered for the number of scalps we collect, as opposed to statistical anomalies.

Not this season, though. You will remember this season for another reason – this winless rut. Years from now, you’ll remember players being carted off (or sent off) two at a time. You’ll remember the pressure of the press screaming “One win in 6, 7, 8, 9″, as the kitchen got hotter and hotter. You’ll remember the beach ball. You’ll remember the journey from “dead hard to beat” to “can’t buy a win.” You’ll remember Alonso and Hyypia abandoning ship.

In the meantime, football will continue. Saturdays will come and go, and the more Saturdays pass, the more we will revert to our long term trend of winning matches, caning teams, and stuffing the trophy cabinet. Personally, I think this team is too good, and our luck too bad, to not see a reversal in the next few fixtures. And when that reversal comes, it would tend to be better than average – the steeper the fall, the higher the gain, to maintain our winning traditions.

When the randomness stops taking the piss, when beach balls disappear, when our players stop clattering into concussions and broken jaws, when we stop carting off 2 players a game, when we stop having to pray to Serbian witch doctors, we’ll revert back to our winning ways. It will happen, you know. This isn’t a broken organization with substandard talent. This is the most successful team in English football history. Even when we’re off, we bring back trophy hauls most clubs dare not dream of.

And when we do go back to our own statistical norm, when our potential world class left footed ball controlling centre back plays more than a few games in a row, when our captain and our most talented striker dovetail for an extended period of time, when our crowd favourite winger regains his long term form, when our right back dances down the line, when our promising centre midfielder comes into his own, when our exciting new signing is fit, we will win. As we usually do. As we have done.

You will remember this season. You will remember your own attitude towards this season. You will remember whether you called for the cutting of your own nose to spite your face. You will remember whether you examined each individual decision or took the easy route of wielding a large brush. You will remember if you backed your players or called for their heads. You will remember if you quit.

It’s not every day we look like we can’t buy a win. Never have we followed up such dominance as to put 4 goals past Madrid, United (away), Arsenal, Chelsea (away) and Villa with such a whimpering follow-up in the same calendar year. This is a statistical anomaly; it’s the odds Gods taking the piss. This isn’t explained away simplistically as faults by “the manager”.

It’s like holding Aces, flopping trips, and losing to a straight. It happens. But you don’t look at a 4th minute attacking sequence like the one against City at home, and give up, thrashing out and blaming everyone in sight. You say “good hand”, swallow your bitterness at their godforsaken luck, and play the next hand the same way, because you know you played it right the first time. Most times you’ll win. Sometimes, you won’t.

On Saturday against City, we were positive before we kicked off. Rafa sang. We attacked the Kop first to bury them before they had a chance to get in the game (which those accusing Rafa of negative tactics once again fail to note). We had a great start, delivered a great chance on goal, which Given fingered away. Some years, the spin on the ball would have favoured the right direction, it into the net, pulled like a magnet into the Kop. This year, not only did the spin bounce away, not only did we not score, the follow-up, but we lost Agger, carted off in pools of blood, in the 4th minute. And to be honest, we probably weren’t surprised. Were we?

We’re in hell, gentlemen. You will remember this season.

to be a realistic man , the EPL is over for me . It's good that if we could make it through in UCL .

Rafa is gonna take this chance ( that we are out of the title race this early )
To take a close look up on each players , which is fit to play the english game and which is not . That's what i am looking forward to see RAFA doing it .

But hey every club has their up and downs. keep the faith smile.gif

I'm sticking with what I said earlier. He will probably sacked before January. It's much depends on what happen to our team in CL.The yanks wont go easy on that, will they? The CL prize money, how it affects the club statue and its selling price...They wont go easy on Rafa.

So, the bold part probably wont come.

He just renewed a 4 and 1/2 year contract earlier this year. We would have to compensate him 20million pounds(about 4.5 million pounds per season) and we'll have to fire his backroom staffs as well(additional costs). We just cant afford to pay for his exit.

Same thing happened to your chelsea anyway,
QUOTE
Chelsea paid more than £23m in compensation when they dismissed first Jose Mourinho and then Avram Grant - plus members of their back-room teams.

The difference is, Abrahimovich is willing to spare chelsea the money to buy players and change manager+backroom staffs, while the yanks are different.

its not even Dec and i am sad to say tonight is the night tat will define the rest of the season. EPL??? i have given up hope on EPL.

The year we won the CL, we were in a peculiar situation. In our last game, we need to beat Olympiacos to go next stage. We manage to concede 1 goal but came back scoring 3 goals to move on. On that day, our fate falls in our own hand. we screw up, its our own fault.

tonight, we have to look to Fiorentina for fate. win or loose, Fiorentina win and our season is reduce to FA cup and all this before Dec.

No idea what happen that we go from 2 lost the whole last season to now. guys... put on your red shirt tonight and walk with our team. whateva happen, i come out a stronger red and before.

He is still safe, not just for the sake of contract. He has brought us victories such as UCL 2005 and some minor cups. Last season we finished without a silverware but we ended second in the EPL just few points behind ManU. We'll just see at the end of the season, maybe? smile.gif

The Yanks cannot afford to sack him - it'll be double whammy : losing the CL income and having to compensate both Benitez and his staff. Yea, they won't go easy on Rafa but they are not in the position to take drastic action either.

What will your boss do if he doesn't want to see your face any more but don't want to pay retrenchment benefits? Cold Storage! or put someone else over you to embarrass you!

If you cannot take the freeze or embarrassment, you will get out on your own accord.

I don't know what's going to happen at Anfield, but it won't be pleasant for sure. One thing's for sure though .. people like us will still support this club!
