hi..i need some info here because i am planning to go at the end of the mth..will b there for 3D2N
i hv nvr been there, sorry if i ask too many questions...

1. where is the location shd i stay? Cenang, tengah or kuah?
The hotel you mention, only one venue is there, Pantai Tengah. Holiday Villa. Where you stay is OK because normally you will rent a car. If you want a beach hotel, then Kuah is out of the puzzle but if beach is not a criteria then Kuah's Bayview is good.

2. which hotel is good at there(based on Q1) in term of services, hygiene, environment etc? i will be going with another 2frens,so total 3. budget below 300pernite /per person
The hotel you mention is both equally good except Langkawi Lagoon is nicer and they have sea chalets, meaning the chalets are built over the sea like Avillion in PD. Bayview in Kuah is a 4 star establishments and also cheap.

3. how far is the driving distance btw cenang, tengah and kuah?
Tengah is just beside Cenang but Kuah is quite a distance (20 to 30 minutes drive) from both the others.

4. if we drive there, how much the cost for 2ways including petrol + tolls? or is it better to go by AA?
Let's see, KL to Ipoh is RM23.00, Ipoh to Penang is RM18.00 and Penang to Alor Setar is RM10.00, to and fro the toll is about RM100.00 (just an estimate, I am not sure now) and the petrol is normally one and a quarter tankful for one way so to and fro is about two and half tankful. If you want to consider the wear and tear and tyres, it is even more , ha,ha,ha tongue.gif

5. anything i miss out? wat other thing i should kno before go there?
The first ferry is morning around 7.00am and the last is about 7.00pm, so time your arrival to K.Kedah accordingly.

thanks a lot first..sorry again for asking so many Q..hope you all can help me smile.gif

I think Holiday Villa has better beaches and nearer to the actions in Pantai Cenang and Langkawi Lagoon although new and nice rooms, it is situated near Kuala Triang which is a small fishing village and it is situated beside a river mouth (Sungai Melaka) which is actually quite muddy although it is compensated with a nice swimming pool. Best bet is still Holiday Villa and Awana Porto Malai is also another hotel without a beach but with a nice boardwalk beside a boating marina.

Have a nice holiday! tongue.gif

Most of the peak period roams probably pre-booked by travel agents both in langkawi & elsewhere...best to get from them via online (Such as cuti.com, asiarooms, agoda, pyo, goairasia & etc)...or get it from those car rental cum travel agents upon arriving at the jetty/airport...sure ada ...

I booked a room on 1st day of hari raya years ago at Kuala kedah jetty..still a lot...but price abit higher than usual-lah...

How abt booking.com?

1st Jan. is a peak period but boats are aplenty there. Normally island hopping is about RM200 per boat which can take 10 pax but at times you will charge you by per head and at peak periods if you go thru hotel or agents they will charge RM60 per head. Normally if you go to the jetty, they will ask you for island hopping. If you go to the jetty one day earlier to book a whole boat you ccan bargain with the boatman. Normally they take you Pulau Dayang Bunting first and then Pulau Singa Besar where there is an animal santuary. They will take to to the third island  Pulau Bras Basah) only if you want to go for water sports like para sailing or banana boat ride.

You can try looking up a Mr.Ooi from Fuju Maru Cruiser in Kuah. His address is Pesiran Bunga Raya in Kuah and book island hopping with BBQ lunch in P.Singa Besar. Awana has limited boats for hire. Mr. Ooi is a better bet and if you want to, the boat can pick you up in Awana jetty. Don't ever commit yourself at the ferry jetty, very expensive!

have a nice trip.
for island hopping, if only 2 persons can go? we will paid based on pax right? Can I have Mr. Ooi contact no.?

Thank you in advance..

Years has gone by and the catch in Langkawi is dwindling. Local anglers is going further and further away from the shores for better catch. For deep sea fishing there is a sunken wreck 10 nautical miles South of Pulau Singa. You must also time your fishing dates with 'air mati' when the current is the weakest.

The only person I know that can will do these charters is Pak Hassan in Kuala Triang. You can look for him by contacting Pak Deris in Alu Alu Fishing in Kuah (I don't know if they are still operating) or you can contact the bell counter in Sheraton Beach Hotel.

I kg. garoupa is quite common in Langkawi and those that are fished at the sunken wreck is about 8 kg. and above is you get the right tide.

This one is caught a few kilometres off Pulau Timun. Then again, there are no guarantees in fishing! tongue.gif

biggrin.gif In Langkawi Mall (not to mistaken with Langkawi Fair) there is one language center that gives language tuition. I can't recall the shop's address but it is adjacent to an Indian restaurant beside Vision Travel and a clinic. The street is called Persiaran Bunga Raya and at the other end of the street from Kamdar and Affin Bank. The language center is located on the first floor of the shop with rough pebbles on the corridor . (It is an end lot and used to be a pub, I think it still is).

My daughter used to take French lessons there but the quality of the tuition is so so only. The tutor is Patrick and he used to be a DJ on the local Langkawi FM channel. Good Luck! tongue.gif

As for music center, there's one on the main road to the airport from Kuah. From Kuah , on the way look to the right. After about 2 kilometers from Teoh Soon Huat, look to the left and try to locate Singapore Cake House. The music teacher is also the owner of the cake house. I know she teaches piano but violin, my guess is NO! If you can't locate the cake house, the cake house also have a branch in Pandak Mayah area. The corner shop along TM PLaza.

OK!
0100pm - lunch
0200pm - temurun waterfall, langkawi waterfall, pasir tengkorak beach
I think you should skip this and look for alternative sites to visit. Since you are going to Seven Wells, Temurun is always devoid of water and full of rocks. Pasir Tengkorak Beach is not really nice, might as well go to the beach near Burau Bay ( Oh! you are going there anyway, Pantai Kok) near Telaga Harbor Park. The way you plan your itinery, you are going to be very tired when you come back from holiday!  blush.gif
0600pm - craft and cultural complex, black sand beach
OK!
0700pm - tanjung rhu beach, dinner
Are there any good dining places there? I don't recall any! Might as well dine in Kuah since you are heading there afterwards.0830pm - back to kuah, hang around town

DAY2 (middle langkawi)
0900am - oriental village, cable car up mat cincang
Good choice!
1230pm - seven wells waterfall, lunch
Good choice but beware of monkeys and don't let kids carry food or fruit.
0300pm - summer palace, pantai kok, telaga harbor, the loaf
Summer Palace is rotting away but visit it anyway. hehe.
0500pm - laman padi, pantai tengah
OK!
0700pm - pantai cenang, dinner
Don't eat the roti bom there or you will get slaughtered, hehe. Tomato Restaurant is recommended by a lot of other forummers.
0830pm - back to kuah, hang around town

DAY3 (lower langkawi)

etigge...thats some nice catch! when was the picture taken? lets say 1-2km out from any of the small island down south of langkawi like pulau singa, pulau balar...could we get some decent garupa 1kg+-? im not aiming for those 8kg++ garupa but just 1kg+- and if get 2kg i'll be laughing until my teeth fall off already!

so is 1 - 2km away from any of the small island bottom fishing any good?

what bait do we use to get garupa's attention better? live squid?, prawn, or kembong fish?

another thing is trolling...i will be doing trolling too...2km away from langkawi islang can get baracuda bits or must go further away for more chances?

biggrin.gif Maybe you can charter a boat to Pulau Cepu which is just off the southern tip of Pulau Singa. Personally the only fish I get here is 'ikan gerut' but I did dive there once and I see a lot of groupers there, big ones. I never hooked them though. In Langkawi, anglers goes out on Thursday nights and nets for live squids the whole night and some light fishing while doing that. Only in the morning, do they go out to fishing spots to do fishing.

As for trolling, Langkawi has plenty of barraccudas. You can charter a boat and head for a place called 'hujung buluh' and the islands around there are full of barracudas. Only thing is barracudas are successfully trolled on 'air besar' days and fishing is better on 'air mati' days. Most boatmans knows 'hujung buluh' which is also the spot for squid catching.

Happy fishing.
