How about putting the liquor in the hand baggage and still buy liquor at the shop @ airport?

When you reached airport, baggages must be checked by customs before checking in. This is done in the lobby of the airport. Once checked you then proceed to check into airlines counter and the bag will be taken care by the airlines from there. You are now empty handed and you can then walk into a duty free shop and buy another bottle. They will have a nice bag which just fits a bottle and another pack of ciggies. When you check into transit room, you will have to go through another customs check and you are still carrying one which you have just bought and if you are carrying another one in your hand carry bag, it means you are carrying one more than allowed here. So, only checked in luggage can work. rclxms.gif

biggrin.gif They are the same operators of Century Pines (Cameron Highlands) and also Century Apartments in Bayan Lepas, Penang. Their condos are clean and the apartments also have owners residing there. The biggest group are those working for Binariang. It is located in town almost on the outskirts and have seaview. I think it should be Ok as makan stalls are also near and so is Langkawi Parade (I want to laugh when they say this) but it is one of the more popular shopping centre which houses Teow Soon Huat Duty Free Store.

Lastly, it should be OK. tongue.gif

Anyone can recommend a place for a romantic honeymoon getaway? Somewhere private yet doesn't require me to sell my kidneys to pay for it. Yes I know there are posts about it somewhere here, but I stare at PCs all day long, and shifting thru threads is such.. ouww.

brows.gif  Yes, it is OK, so long as there are two persons entitled. Actually you can TRY to bring another two bottles out after you checked in your luggage. brows.gif  They used to do that. Once your luggage(with the bottles) are passed and sticker stuck on, they are checked in. You can actually buy another two bottles at the airport and hand carry it in.

Disclaimer !  I know it is been done and it works but I am not responsible if you are taxed if you are caught through. HA,ha.

this is possible. I just came back from Langkawi last friday.

You check in your luggage after going through security screening. Then when you enter the boarding gate, before security check, there is a kastam officer asking you if you have liquor and how many days you were there. Thereafter, when touch down at LCCT, no more checking.

You can possibly buy the additional liquor, some put into check in luggage, some put into hand carry luggage.

But not sure if the check in luggage screener will flag out the liquor or not, or can the liquor be checked in or not.

i would not want to buy liquor at the airpot.....i found the price is at least 30% higher than the same liquor i bought in Kuah town.

Just buy the extra liquor in Kuah and place some into check in luggage and some into hand luggage tongue.gif

The condo is near the seaside but it is not a beach like you imagine. The land around that area has been reclaimed and tons and tons of earth has been used and this makes the whole seaside MUDDY! This is the problem that destroyed the sea around Langkawi and also Bella Vista is also part of this problem. Langkawi Parade sounds busy and big right, go there and you will find out! tongue.gif

After reading tonnes of info here to prepare for my trip last week, I thought of sharing what I knew and I felt from the trip as a reciprocal gesture.

Went for a 5D4N trip with family last week. Stayed at Citin Hotel, a basic no frill hotel which was opened in 2010. According to my wife who used to stay at Langkawi for 8 years, where the Citin hotel is located was previously another hotel, so it was probably taken over by another owner, renamed, refurbished and re-open as another hotel. I am on free n easy trip, for my wife to visit her old frens and etc, so no point staying at resort as we will have no time to enjoy the facilities, not to mention the exorbitant prices the good resorts charged during that so call Peak Season period. Citin Hotel is not bad, basic, clean and simple room, but dun expect fantastic service. Even the housekeeping staff are hired on part time, only come by after 3pm for 3 hours. I stayed there for 4 nights, if I dun ask them to tidy up the room on the 3rd day, they won;t even come..

Rent a old model vios for RM95 per day, the rate is about there, ask all the counters, maybe it's between xmas and new year week, they allask for RM120 for new vios or myvi. I check the vios before paying (must do that) and found the car in tip top condition, only then I paid.

Food wise, Wan Thai is good but not that fantastic. And the price is almost the same as those thai restaurants in KL shopping malls. Also did Kowboi and Wonderland and some other seafood restaurants mentioned here. To be honest, I would advise that you lower your expectation in terms of taste and price save for the freshness of the seafood. I found that most neighbourhood roadside tai-chow stalls in KL cook better than any of those seafood restaurants in Langkawi, tat's my personal feel.

If you prep your mentality of expecting the price in Langkawi to be on par with KL, then you may find it reasonable. If your expect the price in Langkawi to be of that smaller pekan type of standard, then you will think Langkawi prices are expensive.

Island hopping - as I have big family, instead of paying per head, I just head to the jetty (small jetty next to the Kuah ferry jetty) one day earlier, get down there and look see, then some boatmen approach me. Price is more or less fixed there, RM250 for a boat that can ferry up to 8 persons, 4 island, 4 hours of hopping package.

Cable car is a good ride, the view is just fantastic. I was surprised to find out those shops selling souvenirs and clothings at the geopark village (where cable car station is located), that their price are much cheaper than what you get at Kuah town. I would expect those super touristy places normally carry chop head price but i was wrong, end up buying a lots of baju there.

All in all, Langkawi is a nice place and a successfully planned out and operated tourist attraction, I would love to go back there for relaxing vacation in years to come. Only wish, hope that more people in food n beverage business will go there after reading my post. Honestly, if you are run a average seafood restaurant in KL, pls consider migrate there, your business opportunity will be tremendous.

Lucky you, i went also last week. But failed to ride on the cable car due to windy conditions. Even went twice.

There was a Restoran Nelayan, on the way to TLDM base camp. Price was quite fair. Avoid the fish farm restaurant, price was high and food does not taste good. They do have a platform where you can walk 200 meters out to the fish farm.

I was also in Langkawi from 1994 till 2007 and have seen Langkawi developed (not necessary a good point) from a backward village till today. When the location of Citin Hotel was another former hotel, the operator was a bit stingy and the rooms were small. It was left vacant for a number of years until anothe small operator took over and then the current one. It is beside the old hospital and at that time most of the shop houses there were wooden ones.

In fact, there was a row of shanty looking bazaar at that time in front of it, selling fruits and even Pak Ya Nasi Ayam was there. Have you heard of Pak Ya, the police sargeant that sells 40 to 50 chickens a day! His shop (double shopped) is just beside the Naza showroom in Kuah. It is true that the standard of seafood is not at par with the city but it is well compensated by it's freshness which can NEVER be attained in KL. I have never taken any fish or prawns since I am back in mainland, not even till today as I find the seafood in KL is a bit off taste.

To be able to survive as a food stall operator in Langkawi is not as easy as it seems. If you cater for only tourist, you can never survive and the locals don't patronise if you don't mingle with them. To get to know them takes years. Food supplies are not cheap there either so you can consider the food there cheap even if they are the same price as KL. You have to take into consideration of their transport cost which is non existent in KL. Pork has to come in sealed boxes from ferries and there are no pork dealers there. Fishes are not abundant as you may think and usually most seafood restaurants have to rush and grab when there's a haul. Hotel supplies eg. veges, meat, seasonings etc are higher priced than KL and supplies are not consistent.

It is a different atmosphere if you visit it once in a while from staying there all the years. The money that was earned there are mostly spent on trips back to KL and so it is the same. How much you spend to holiday there is also the same for the us to take a trip back to KL. I do miss the life there but the situation is much different when our TM was still a PM. Still for those who are tempted to really start business there, just take a trip and check out the conditions there. Like they say, the good ones already can make it here why bother at all to operate in non familiar place? hmm.gif

icon_rolleyes.gif Aisay! if you want hanky panky, the best place is just another few kilometers north larr but bring your passport. Langkawi wise, it is quite controlled. laugh.gif Or you can hangout in Coco Jam at night and wait for all those 'Thigh Girls' finish work and maybe buy them drinks. They crave clubbing and happy hours. Koh Lipe is a better place for hankying.

If you are bored with nightlife in Betong and Danok, then Langkawi is even more boring if you crave for that kind of holiday. tongue.gif Koh Lipe is an island Northwest of Langkawi. The proper channel is to take a ferry from Pak Bara in southern Thailand but there are services from Telaga Harbour Park in Langkawi. There is a thread here regarding Koh Lipe. Check it out.

BTW Cocojam is located in Aseania Hotel. You can buy them drinks but it will not guarantee a good night, LOL.

Telaga Harbour is located on the North Western side North of the Airport. on the way to Burau Bay. part of the Petronas station complex too. B4 2000, the area is not really a harbour or cove...Just part of Pantai Kok, But thereafter, wth the harbour, you can't really see/enter pantai Kok anymore unless you go further to Perdana Quay and find your way to the secluded pantai Kok.

That's the beach I first saw naked angmoh sunbather in M'sia for the 1st time ~ early 1990 haha
