Gee I feel silly now. Your mystery console wasn't that mysterious at all. Notice the Aquarius writing on the cassete? I just decided to google it, and found this

http://www.geekvintage.com/mattel-aquarius-cassette-list.php

It's the Mattel Aquarius home computer. That page even has the same pictures you used. I never, ever saw or used one of these before. I was using an IBM XT clone running DOS back then.

well i dunno if it is the aquarious or not because i remember it just looks like an old skool radio

drills was only an example sweat.gif

Oh haha my bad. I thought you specifically meant what console/system played these games. There were quite a few computer systems that used cassette storage, including the Commodore 64. Back in the old days, I used to read the instruction manuals on computer games front to back, and I always read something about the LOAD command for the C64. It had a cassette drive as an I/O medium.

The thing is, I never knew anyone with a Commodore back then, let alone use one. I only decided to google it since I'm also curious about which cassette system you are looking for. Could this be it?
*
maybe maybe....they were selling these in malaysia?

back then i was an atari 2600, some of my friends were on IBM XT, some were on Amiga.....no differentiation between PC/Console yet

Shouldn't be as new TV can handle legacy format. Only the games either region locked (software) or cart dimension cannot fit (hardware).
*
i think one of the legacy formats and plug is the SCART from UK which isn't pretty much dead like Betamax, right?

Brrrrrr. Bro, you're talking about the Philips CD-i. The console that managed to make a Zelda game horrible. Just in case you're not familiar, there's a licensed Legend of Zelda game called Link the Faces of Evil. Try looking it up. That game more or less sums up the issues with the CD-i

ah yes!!!
i few consoles i remember that crashed and burned.

Phillips CD-I

The console that pretends it is an audiophile equipment.

Apple Pippin

One of the aimless projects in the years without Jobs

Pioneer LaserActive

Don't think many remember this but there was a console running off Laserdisc!
Someone actually measured and made a joke in the future desktop computers will have a loading tray big enough for a laserdisc.
He didn't know that Laserdisc is analogue data so that's why it is so bulky as compared to CD's which are digital which makes it more compact.

Panasonic 3DO

I didn't even see anyone selling it here except for some cheapo VCD players of which the casing looks like the 3DO

Phantom

The name is so apt as it never appeared, but it came during the wrong time. It could be said to be the ancestor to a steam box/console.

Atari Jaguar

One of my favorite brands and they were launching a 64bit console while everyone were barely doing 32bit then I thought this was the future and saved up money for it, it never came and thankfully didn't blow my money on it, reluctantly at first bought the PS1 feeling geeky thought *ppfftt* 32bit only shit box.

Yeah back when the console crowd kept using "bits" as a measure of power. When the first Xbox came out, it was "only" running an Intel x86 architecture, with a 32-bit processor. Predictably, the PS2 diehards were like lololol Xbox suk only 32 bits lolol.

Still, even if it really was a 64-bit console, the Jaguar had shit games, with that awkward controller. It was just never gonna fly. But it DID give the world Alien Vs Predator, which looked really awesome back in the day.

AvP was like the killer app for it, too bad their production and marketing didn't do enough, if they had sold more units as everyone was craving for AVP before it got ported to PC they could've survived.

of the legendary game console makers only nintendo is left standing.....with one foot on the grave sweat.gif

back then everything was quite simple so propriety hardware/software/developer tools were okay.
nowadays in the name of profits portability is the key.
PS3 and Xbox 360 suffered from poor ports when cross selling because developer would pick either one platform to develop then port it over to save cost.
I think this is the reason why the next gen consoles are very close hardware wise hmm.gif

I saw the 3D0 only once in 1995, bcos it had super street fighter II turbo...

but the price damn gila mahal, almost rm1000 all in, almost neo geo like price.

and of course neo geo never went below rm1k either....

and that time rm1k was like rm2.5k value nowadays...

Donno why I was so obsessed with consoles. Even when my PC could already play Mortal Kombat (with no sound card!), for some reason I still envied those with Megadrive or SNES. Heck I still wanted a Micro Genius! Maybe it was because my old PC only had like 40MB hard drive, no sound card, no CDROM drive.
*
pc like for playing single player games in private but keyboard ain't too good for multiplayer (1 pc)
while consoles were like a social thing everyone can play together and don't need to worry about breaking it.
play on pc....and some idiot delete msdos.exe
thats it game over goodnight

It's a 3600mAh power bank + card reader basically. It's not a controller, in case you're wondering. But there ARE retro inspired controllers in Akiba / DenDen. Famicom, Super Famicom, even Megadrive and Saturn I think.
*
u mean those controllers with that look like retro controllers but made with today's technology is an all-in-one has games and everything?
