This is the first time I'm going to Osaka, so it's all new for me too. I'll need to scout around DenDen Town to look for stuff. Do you want me to look for the Wavebird?

That Namco stick is this year's release right? As long as it's already been released finding it should be relatively easy.

Second full day in Osaka. Man, I didn't get to explore DenDen Town properly. We were rushing through, it was freezing, even SNOWING at one point. First snow experience of my life. Couldn't handle it lol. I'll probably try again on Wednesday.

Tokyo maybe. Here in Osaka it didn't blast snow. Yet. But man, even that brief snow was already enough to make me chill to the bones. I just wore a shirt with a jacket over. And today's prediction is rain, all day long. Dang it.

Well, back from a long day. The rain isn't helping at all. I looked around mainly in Super Potato and Softmap. I haven't really learned all of DenDen Town. But I can say that Akihabara has more shops to browse from.

I only found 2 items that you guys are looking for.

Char Customized Premium Box Nintendo 3DS (used) 円14,500. The shop asssistant said there's a further 円2000 discount
Battery Pack for Sony PSP2000/3000 円4980ve

I should be going there again on Sunday. Tomorrow and Saturday going to Kyoto and Kobe respectively. Please let me know if you want me to buy them BEFORE Sunday. Thanks.

I don't think I'll have time to look for other stores anymore. Still have two more location lined up for this trip. So this is pretty much it, if you want it, let me know before Sunday. Refund/exchange? I can inspect the item on the spot, but that's about it. Once I buy it, it's final. If it's not satisfactory then I won't buy it.

Sad news guys. My Dreamcast console could not read any disc when i tried to load it last weekend. The sound of spinning disc is too quiet. The last time I played on it fine was last year. Was hoping to get some 4 player action with my cousins on this baby but this had to happen now. cry.gif

Any tips to fix this guys? Or direct me to shops that can replace the lens? TQ in advance.

Have you ever tried the laser pot tweak? A Dreamcast will not last forever sadly, the console was produced to be cheap from day one. Both of my consoles have suffered a disc read problem before. Trying the laser pot tweak did help, but it's not a permanent fix. If and when it does die, I also need to change the laser on my Dreamcast.

Same here, my 1st dreamcast died 4 years ago. My 2nd 1 just died last month. Now I'm left with the last surviving console. Guess it won't last that long  cry.gif

Have you tried the laser pot tweak I mentioned up there? It can slightly prolong your Dreamcast laser's life, but I'm not sure for how much longer. Still better than nothing though.

If you don't mind sending to me, I can take a look. Are you using a NTSC or PAL Dreamcast?

Not really. I just wanted to know about the power supply requirement. Anyway, the idea is to just tweak a LITTLE bit of the potentiometer. If you have a standard flat heat screwdriver or test-pen, you can use that to adjust the potentiometer.

It's best to tweak it a bit at a time, then try again. I've done this twice before, so I have an idea of how far to tweak. Before starting, mark the potentiometer's top with a marker pen, so that you remember the original position. Think of it as a clock's face. The starting position will be at 12, so just take a small marker pen and mark it at the 12 oclock position.

Next, take your screwdriver and turn the potentiometer clockwise, towards 1 oclock. Then try putting in a game disc and turn on your Dreamcast. If it doesn't work, try adjusting it a bit more. Everytime you tweak the potentiometer, you are raising the laser's power level, so be careful not to raise it too much as it CAN damage the laser permanently. I got mine to work after adjusting it to 2 oclock, and 3oclock on both of my Dreamcasts. They're still working currently.

Oh, this is one such guide.

http://retro-hack.blogspot.com/2010/06/seg...tion-guide.html

I actually did my first laser tweak back in 2003 I think. I don't even remember where I found it. Had to go on quite a few forums and hacksites.

Tried the fix on my console last night. It took me quite a few times tweaking the potentiometer and booting up the game before finally booting up a game. I rotate the potentiometer just a tiny bit clockwise. Before that I rotated it too much.

Still, I could not get most of my burned games to start like before. It will always go to the menu and when I try to play it says "please insert disc" or something like that can't remember.

Perhaps my next action would be to clean the lens with a cotton swab applied with alcohol.

So, you can play certain games, but not all?

Greetings retro fans! Just sharing some pictures I took while in Osaka. It's rare that I can find boxed Famicom. Just had to share this here. Along with Perfect Dark for N64, and boxed N64. (I'm not taking requests for this trip, sorry! There'll be another trip next year.)

There are 2 Super Potato stores in Nipponbashi. The one I've been going to has lots of games, and respectable number of retro hardware. But the other one was always closed during my previous stay. This time it's open, and I saw these still boxed beauties! The famicom is looking soooo tempting, but that's way too much to pay! I just bought more Dreamcast, Saturn and PS1 stuff for myself. Next year's trip will include more hardware again!
