Onkyo, Pioneer, Yamaha are made in Malaysia. Denon and Marantz I think are made in China if not mistaken, I like the Pioneer AVR very much, running cool even in very high volume, and the dynamic is totally awesome, one thing I don't like is none of them are 11.2 ch!

Hi Sifu,
New to Home Theater system. I got a few questions, not sure if anyone can help.
I will use it mainly for movie watching via my AC Ryan. I fully understand it's dependent on the movie file to determine the sound quality

1. HTIB or Component? I'm looking at MCS838 if HTIB. Component will be entry level (below RM4k, some shop recommend me AJ series)

2. For my usage above (not a fans of DVD), would component be underutilized?

3. What about cables for rear speakers. If going for HTIB, at least I see the cable, I know how to conceal it. If component, I understand that cables are sold separately. Is it something I can DIY?

4. I'm renovating my home, so thinking of conceal, should be a good idea right?

I'll go for testing as well of course. However prior to that I just want to get a feeling on how you guys comment between HTIB vs component, for usage like mine

Thanks in advance

Hi

De term 'Component' - mostly used for VDO cabling [tink RGB]
So ..ya I was confused reading your questions..
But I tink I knw wat u mean now..

First off there is no question of 'usage' as u put it but of sound quality ; separates [component in ur words] have better sound quality n also ability to upgrd components/speakers wifout throwing anyting out..

Concealing spkr cables is possible but u nid to buy separate - if budget is tight - jln Pasar ones are sufficient for the surrounds..

Id suggest u got try out n if u like HtiB's thn go for it, its cheaper..
but if like me n u continue in tis hobby then separates is d way to go for upgrds are part n parcel of .. life [at least in tis hobby.. biggrin.gif ]

Thanks for your reply smile.gif . Actually the word "component" is being used in Pioneer brochure and many websites I'd read. I thought it's a common term. Anyway, it's ok as we know what we are talking about. Yes, I will go and try out HTiB and then perhaps I have a better idea which is my preference.

When I survey these separates/components units, I'm just curious how can I made it done for myself if I really want to go for it because since I'm doing renovation later I would prefer these cables are concealed. I understand that cables come with different gauges, which to choose? who to do the work for me, the contractor and etc.

Talking about sound quality, I understand from a friend that Media Player (in my case A.C Ryan) will underutilize the separates/components units, unless I'm playing a DVD. So are you saying you disagree with this statement?

Hi,

I didn't want to touch on media players .. since u asked.. I mean if its a media player then l guess you are tinking of dwnloaded material on the cheap .. n well you know wat they say, when u pay for peanuts..
If u go for say a blu ray n then u get all the bells and whistles tat it brings..

Hi D,

Well yes, I admit I'm cheap and lazy. My movie sources now are from internet (either download or Streaming from iFlix / Google). I absolutely agree the sound quality is degraded as compare to DVD. However I believe at this point I appreciate material available right on my desktop than to go for DVD shopping. That where my question come from, whether getting a separate / component sound systems to play such movie files is a waste, or not?

TQ smile.gif

1. component. better upgrade or re-use path.
2. no.
3. any 2 wires (1 for positive, 1 for negative) will make a single speaker cable. you can DIY if u want. just make sure the 2 wires are not electrically shorted.
4. up to you

choose the size based on wire length and speaker impedance. u can buy it from electrical / av / hardware shops / online

disagree. using a media player/bluray/dvd is irrelevant. using htib/component just to play windows alert sound is under utilize.

digital downloaded movie from internet is just another form of distribution/media. the quality varies. it can be better/equivalent/worse than dvd.
it's not a waste.

Haha i just got MCS333 the lowest in the series coz no point im paying more when the highest in the series (MCS838) that comes with the same speakers & sub and the similar watt output. And 333 still networked HiTB and selling so cheap ~RM500 on Gemfive. With that price you can have all rooms in your house with 5.1 sound system exclusively

I dont need a higher series that come with speaker stand or wifi. (kinda joke that pioneer market them based on these).

Im using for couple weeks and im quite impressed (as compared to my 7.2 Onkyo component system)

Pro

+ DTS HDMA/ DD TrueHD is good, sub quite powerful too
+ 4 x HDMI input enough for a lot of people (PS4/Astro/HyppTV/AppleTV or ChromeCast)
+ USB recording CD song and FM radio to mp3. just put thumbdrive into the rear usb and press record. WOW!
+ Built in FM radio can preset up to 50 ch.
+ Extensive karaoke function:-
++2 mic jack (3.5mm) with echo and key control on any song/music from any input (wow)
++function to remove vocal on any song on the go (almost perfect and so convenient) no need to buy karaoke dvd.
+ Stream media / video and song wirelessly from your phone and tablet flawlessly. It has dedicated function to scan media server or computer connected to the same network and able to browse photo/video/music/playlist and play them.
+ Play Youtube, Picasa & Vtuner and it has dedicated button for youtube on the remote! WOW
+ It's a bluRay player!
+ White led display is nice.
+ It may not have advance auto speaker volume like audyssey but you can adjust vol of each speaker manually.

Cons

- Can only read FAT32 formatted usb, newest one like exFAT cannot , i think for hard disk too
- FM Radio no RDS, you dunno what channel is playing and other info like song title
- Mic inputs using 3.5mm, not enough power to support professional microphone. I tried using adapter but no sound.

Cable length is fixed and not very long, but they're enough for "surrounding" my room.

Unfortunately,

Over here in Mal.. u can't really try out all - as models are limited unless u plan to go all over the place - looking for a demo model..
I hv bought most of my avrs based on rvws.. but then again, l am more for durability then sound quality - tat isn't much spoken about anyway or can be try/test at the shop..

Thanks friend. I kind of agree after casually shopping around. Looks like demo unit is limited. Seems like AJ series is the one available, paired with different receivers (around RM3k).

HTiB 838 is quite hard to find, however after do many readings & youtube video, I guess I want to go for component set.

So, I heard few mentioned the Malaysia sales is closing down? that shouldn't be a problem for a beginner like me to buy right?

Hi,

As a beginner, I wouldn't even bother about models.. I'd look for bang for buck -
Rule of thumb - as you progress up de ladder - higher power means higher cost..
For me.. I'd look at latest formats [atmos, amongst others] wif a grain of salt, better to consider wattage, internal components [if you can find decent reviews ] tat warrant better sound/vdo [or if like me durability..]
Truth be told , only a very small difference in sound between different brands - as a beginner, l doubt u can tell..

Cheers
