Hmmmm.. According to my memory, the VS4121 has bass leaking out of its subwoofer despite having the bass knob at off/0. laugh.gif But, I wasn't quite unhappy with it during that time. Hmmm.. Was about 7 years back then.

Hehe, I'm going back to my bro's house in Penang this weekend, gonna steal his old batch of AL VS4121 back if possible, come and try it to recall the faded memory of urs tongue.gif

Yeap, it's true, those old batch is like 4 or 5 years back stock, don't think you can get them anymore except someone is selling his used unit. For the diff, check out at Altec Lansing thread.

Hey men, I would be glad if someone here could help me out. At the moment I have trouble deciding between a few 2.1 speaker systems, namely the :-

i)  Edifier S530D
ii)  Harman Kardon Soundsticks II
iii) AE Aego M

My budget is at RM 800

Mostly used to play audio cd's or at worst 320kbps/mp3, with some gaming thrown in(but usually i use wireless headphones for this)

am looking to plug it into my pc, lcdtv and ps3 in a room measuring 3mX3m

As I don't really have the time to audition these speakers as usually there are located at diff places, could anyone who has owned any of these give me some feedback. Or if you know of any other choices other than these 3 that also fits into my budget, do let me knoe.

thanks
*
That's quite a gd budget you've there bro, but is it possible for you to squeeze like RM200 more? Coz I would recommend Edifier S730D over those speakers listed above.

but i have made some surveys on aego m...music like adam lambert, one replublic don't really sound nice on it as i can see from those reviews..

i am using altec lansing vs4121 and it's quite ok for me...i believe that S730 would be great if i upgrade from that altec...?  smile.gif

I recently downgraded from Edifier S730>Razer Mako> Al VS4121 now, I can tell you the diff is heaven and earth xD

haha you'll obviously recommend him Eddie s730 tongue.gif
i can predict it
Oh btw user MusicForLife: as you say music like adam lambert, one replublic don't really sound nice on it as you can see from those reviews..
those are other people's opinion. You gotta try it yourself to know which is great or not.
*
Yea, out of speakers he listed above, I feel that it's better that he upgraded to S730,

aego m is gd no doubt, but the price has increased from RM620>Rm750, don't really worth it IMO, and it's best for those classical/jazz type of music only. Klipsch, hmm, gd luck finding it. Razer is pretty gd no doubt, but if you really ask me whether to choose the Razer or the 730, then the answer will obviously b the 730. Cheaper yet better.

one of the main thing is the serious subwoofer
10" subwoofer
awesome passive radiator design
the bigger the better tongue.gif

others is the control pod that provides you ridiculous amount of easy controls to suit your taste.

choose s730 mate icon_rolleyes.gif

PS: omg I think I'm in love with S730 too shocking.gif  sweat.gif
*
It's not the sub that makes the Edi S730 beats the Mako, it's the SQ of the speakers that makes me choose the S730 over the Mako.

p/s: Do you hv a better speaker to recommend over the S730? hmm.gif

so I can't recommend because I don't know if this suits him or not.

Well, I'm jus saying SW is not the main factor, nth more or less whistling.gif

music normally works best with studio speakers
simply like Edifier R1900TIII or R2000T and Creative T20/T40
but he wants upgrade from T40 so must recommend something awesome. wink.gif  icon_rolleyes.gif

but then, what does he normally use the speakers for?
music/movies n gaming?
that question I forgot to ask lol doh.gif
but still, s730 can be modded into one great speaker system for music.
it's just all about the $$ tongue.gif

example
connect the satellite to a dedicated amp without using the subwoofer's built in amp
subwoofer connected to mixer out instead.
so you'll get satellites connected to amp with add-on subwoofer.

aargh,I need to draw out the diagram to show you how lol

it's basically worked like HT style but with PC speaker parts
*
Those are 2.0 huh, hmmm, gotta go check them out after my exam, see whether those ~RM300-Rm600 speaker really can beat the S730 or not smile.gif

but of course the sub-bass freq will lose so set aside sub-bass frequency judgement.

hi guys, can recommend a 2.1 or 5.1 speakers. Budget is below Rm1000. Mainly for music (80%), 10% on movie and 10% on gaming. I have aego M in my mind. Any other recommendation which is within the budget and have better sound quality than aego m? thanks.

it's important. the longer the range (i.e. lower means deeper bass). However, the frequency range is usually exaggerated. i mean sometimes u can hear 40hz but u have to put your ear next to the subwoofer. and listening to 20000hz? not many adults can listen to.

when buying speaker, do not look at the technical specification. instead, read reviews or go down and listen for one. it's like buying food. nobody look at the tech spec.
*
Usually they lie when they say the speaker can go as low as 30hz. For speaker I don't think the 35-50hz makes a significant diff.

ahahaha all speakers can go up from 1hz to ∞hz
it's just that on some point they can't create those frequency well.
and mostly inaudible on sub bass or sub sonic trebles

my silk dome tweeter can do 10hz but I can't see or hear them. icon_rolleyes.gif
*
Hehe, I read it from a review in HeadFi, the company claimed their product can go as low as 20hz, but it only can go to 35hz.

Haha, oversized subwoofer... I wonder why my uncle's subwoofer size is about twice and another half of the size of the subwoofer of S730 but music still sounds so sweet.

You could try not to change any setting on the Asus programme first, jus play with the equalizer on the remote first, particularly the treble. If it's bright for you then you would probably want to leave it at +2. It's absolutely nothing to do with the subwoofer.

hey guys need help! I'm currently using Edifier C3 for my computer, planning to get creative X-Fi Elite Pro. Now I'll be getting a ps3, so I need a speaker. Budget around 1000. Been looking at Edifier S730 and AE aego M and maybe AE Aegis Neo, but not sure about it. Looking for either 2.1 or 2.0(studio speaker) Thought of Edifier S2000 but don't think there's any here. I might even swap and let the ps3 use the C3 because the computer I use for 40-50% Gaming, 30-40% Music and 20% Movie. PS3 either 100% gaming or use it to play music as well depends. Please recommend!
*
S730 would b a better choice IMO, S2k exceeds ur budget by few hundreds, and it's not suitable for gaming and video, it's more for music listening.

yea i realize s2k is more for music as well... hmmmm.. How about AE Aego M? Because I heard that s730 is not really good at music as well right, since i might swap with my pc speaker. And will be using it for like 40:40:20 gaming:music:movie. And let the ps3 use the C3.

For multimedia speaker below Rm1k, S730 IMO is still the best one. If one says S730D is not gd enuf for musics, then then I really dunno how else to recommend. I nvr really gv the aego m a gd test, which is bcoz I only used to hear them in the shopping mall, not actually own them and put into serious listening so can't really comment on it, however, most of the people claim that it's more suitable for jazz and classical types of songs, it doesn't do very well in other genre.
