really that bad meh? lol, either the speaker defective or the source is defective. don't forget turn off all x-fi features like CMSS, Crystallizer, even Bass Boost.

after i turn off the Crystallizer.. the sounds became better now

setting the S730 treble level does not help? afaik S730 is not that bright...

Logitech Z5500 is designed to be a multi-platform device. it's advantage over the S730 are the optical + coaxial + analog input for consoles like PS2/3 and X360. but on the other hand it lacks of midrange, well it was designed for gaming and movie in the first place.

Edifier S730 is designed for music listening, that explains the greater midrange than Z5500. But personally i feel that the subwoofer could use more oomph judging from the size. only the S730D comes with coaxial and optical input.

which one is more worth it? you have to listen to it, or rather see which purpose are you using for.

I try both before too for me z-5500D more potential than s730. Furthermore z-5500D got hidden volume boost. Remember setting at default could sound different with one thats already accidentally set?

now.....which sound card is the best to pair with this monster?

I kept coming across Audioengines but I'm not sure of it's performance. Do you have any recommendations? It doesn't come with a subwoofer, does it?
