No online play until a fix is ready for download
Earlier this week From Software readied some cruel, unusual and darkly humorous punishment for players who managed to get Dark Souls ahead of street date and decided to take their game online for the world (or at least the publisher) to see. Now that the game is officially released in stores, that little episode has passed but sadly it appears as if everyone else has begun encountering something far worse online: game freezes.
From Software has taken off its funny cap this time and acknowledges the game freezing issues that occur whenever players fire up Dark Souls while connected to the PSN. The big problem is that the freezing doesn't just occur whenever players specifically want to invade/join other players online; they can happen even at title screen of the game, so long as the player is connected to the game's servers.
The publisher is working to fix the game freezing issues and hopes to have a patch fix ready by next week. Unfortunately, From Software will have to pull the plug on Dark Souls' online services in the meantime until the fix is ready for download. The publisher issues an official apology for the problems and resulting inconvenience.
The good news is that players can still enjoy Dark Souls without ever connecting online, so long as they don't sign into their PSN accounts before booting the title.
