Why don't you guys use an application do download it? I run on a mac, so I use jDownloader. For windows users, RapidshareDownloader is a very good application You just put up the links in the app, and let it do the rest of the job..It will auto connect, resume and do everything thats needed to download the files..Try it out..

Idk why, but I've tried to make the guide really simple, but people tend to have problems with the recovery installation..If I were flashing a new Hero, I'd just type this:
adb shell reboot bootloader fastboot boot recovery-RA-hero-v1.2.3.img adb shell mount /sdcard adb push recovery-RA-hero-v1.2.3.img /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.2.3.img adb shell flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-hero-v1.2.3.img adb shell reboot
and it actually works...

Sorry Shahz, when i type the "fastboot boot recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.3.img", it just show me "cannot load recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.3.img". I really don't know what is the problem here...I think i better stop trying...already restart my hero nearly 9 times...

Yes, i installed the flashrec.apk. My problem is: 1. What are the use of flashrec.apk?creating back up?what should i type inside? 2. After i perform the step in flashrec.apk, i need to return to the first step of "adb shell reboot..."?
Sorry of keep bothering u....
The ans is: 1. Flashrec.apk is another application that can install the recovery console by using ur own HTC HERO. Step: 1. Put the file flashrec.apk and recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.3.img inside ur SD card.(Not inside any folder) 2. Install the flashrec.apk with any file manager. 3. Open the FlashRec program and click on Backup Recovery Image and wait for it to finish. 4. Once done, click on the empty text box in the FlashRec program and type /sdcard/recovery-RA-HERO-v1.2.3.img. 5. Click the Flash Custom RecoveryImage button and wait for it to finish. 6. You are done!!! 7. Continue with the steps 2( Installing the rooted generic HTC ROM) in first post.
Hope this will be useful for newbies like me.

YEAH!!!Finally i did it!!!will update tomorrow... Just disappointed with the "2.8-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-chinese-signed" zip. For chinese users, it is really inconvenient as no option to input "pinyin". Another cons is the chinese words are in "traditional" instead of "simplified".
Added on December 12, 2009, 12:01 amMy build number now is "MoDaCo Custom ROM 3.0 Core, REBOOT REQUIRED".Does this mean i'm having the latest ROM? y i still feel laggy?i never wipe my HTC hero from the first time i root.
