Its not mine..lol..its by another LYN user..his nickname is "sicksand"..the application looks up the particulars of the song being played on air..It does not play the radio itself..

Yeah..I had 3.1 too..But its still a little buggy and personally, I didnt like 3.1 that much..I felt 3.0 much "comfortable" though..Modaco added a kitchen where a custom ROM can be compiled..Really smart!

I cooked my own ROM in the kitchen actually..Im a premium member tongue.gif It is fine..but there are little bugs with some applications..

BUT....

I just realized if you wipe your phone for 3.1, then you will feel some real difference..And I have to say, its really showing some attitude already..If everything goes well, then I will surely post the generic ROM here smile.gif

Hey Shahz, or anyone else for that matter (i know Shahz is busy making love to his Nexus  tongue.gif )....

I've been using my Hero with a stock 2Gb card thus far, and have installed some application, created some folders for storing songs, and albums for pics etc etc...

so now I've gone out and got meself an 8Gb cls6 card, how do I go about doing the partition thing? Do I just start from scratch with the empty SD card, or copy what's in the 2GB card into the 8GB?

I'm not sure, but if I start with the blank SD, afterwards how do I know what folder goes where? this may be just straight forward but right now I'm abit pening  icon_question.gif

If you want, you can do this:
1. Go into the recovery, make a nandroid backup.
2. Move all contents from your SD card to your computer.
3. Slot in the new SD card.
4. Make the partitions on the new SD card.
5. Restore the Nandroid.

Although it does work seemlessly, I do not guarantee any loss of data if anything goes wrong smile.gif Nandroid is reliable to me though so far.
If you want to be safe, backup your contacts with sync and then use Titanium Backup as an extra feature..

I am actually busy making love to my N1, but I have not forgotten Hero yet..hihi

QUOTE(shayppp @ Jan 15 2010, 12:27 PM)
Shahz,

Congrats on your N1!!! will be getting it when it is available locally.

Today, I managed to heir wire my Hero. I actually wanted to upgrade to kernel 1.9.1 so I done Nandroid Backup, wipe then I flash it up, reboot and the things keep on circulating in boot (where the android icon keep waving then black screen than waving.. hehehe). My Nandroid restore does not work it failed (forgot to jot down the msg). So I reflashed the ModaCo rom (3.0), and 2 others files in step 2 (hero generic 2.73.405.38 and radio). Result; I actually downgraded!! With no ModaCo Rom registered!! Hehehehe.. Lawak King sungguh.  rclxms.gif

So there is an issue that I encounter when doing full backup using AmonRA 1.5.2; it could not restore. Anyone experiencing this?

Nonetheless, the phone is still working using the generic Rom.  biggrin.gif

Would be nice if Dev could do something like VSH Menu for PSP.  You could pick your clock speed, software etc not only in the recovery but also after booting.  drool.gif

Once bricked my Nokia Symbian, wish not to bricked this Hero.  whistling.gif

Cheers.

p/s: Spent too much time already with this Hero. Will have to structurally plan what improve next.

shayppp, actually, i think you're talking about the "Run recovery from ADB" message right? I was having a headache a few days ago with this too..But actually, the error is pointless..Once you reboot, things are actually recovered already..Memang Lawak King..LOL

Wait..First of all, you must know what nandroid does..Its a WHOLE backup of your phone..AND its located on your SD card, so by right, after making the nandroid backup, you should move all the contents of your SD card to your computer (or just the nandroid folder for the case if other data is not useful)..When you restore a nandroid, your contacts, messages, applications, widgets arrangements, and even the ROM you were using during backup is restored.

Sure..Just spread the word and get more Androiders..That will cover the "fee" wink.gif

And don't make profit from helping others too..Now that you are a pro, spread it just like we do it here - just for the love of it..somethings just have to be free...

Cheers and congrats on your Hero bro..

Thanks for the input boxcar-ST smile.gif That's really helpful of you happy.gif

In addition to what he shared with you, you can also just use the recovery menu to make the partitions under the SDcard option. However, its always important to know the basics of how things are done. So I recommend you follow what boxcar-ST asked you to do smile.gif Cheers~

Root is to gain super user access. Some applications need to execute certain commands that non-root phone could not execute.

This guide of mine is for HTC Hero. The one you posted the link of is for the Nexus One smile.gif

im not trying ur method yet.. currently i only successfully create goldcard.. from what i read in ur 1st post.. there are no goldcard required?

Yes, you have to use the goldcard method. But once you have the goldcard part done, the rest is just the same like my guide smile.gif I didn't include the goldcard method to protect the user's files.

QUOTE(8L@Z3 @ Feb 23 2010, 12:25 PM)
hi guys, pardon me this might be a really stupid question.
i rooted my hero on the first day i bought it all the way to the sd card partitioning. i didn't get to use the adb method as it just wouldn't mount. so i used flashrec and ran the rooting and rom flashing via the recovery console.
so here comes the dumb question, did i actually do a wipe or did i do an overlap install over the existing rom?

second question. i use advance task killer. but as time passes by like a day or two the available memory just keeps getting lesser and lesser. i need to reboot the phone to increase the available memory - is this normal or something went wrong from the above process ?
*
First of all, welcome to Android world smile.gif You did it excellently my friend. Flashing a ROM is NOT like installing something. It clears the previous ROM and writes the new one. So you don't have the previous ROM anymore. Tadaa~ smile.gif

Don't use advance task killer. Take my advice and use the best application. Search in market for "TasKiller" and use that. This is what you should do after that:

In the settings, allow autokill (check it). Then, in the list, allow all the applications that you use all the time (phone, home, messaging, clock, etc)
To allow them, long-tap on the application and add to ignore. Once you have done this, go to the home screen. Add the widget which is called "TasKiller". Note that it creates 3 types of widgets. Use the 1x1 widget. Now, on your screen, tap that widget and see what it does. It will even tell you how much memory you have left smile.gif Now you will not feel the low memory problem anymore.
