I think i made it clear in the guide. In your sd card without a card reader. Just use ur hero cable. That will do.

Guys, try out the guide first and be daring. Many people have succeeded already. I camt make this guide any simpler now. If you have a tougher question ask that..

I mean, come on lah. Do some reading, get the basic. Else, I'm more than happy to see you fup your Hero and learn it the hard way.

Thanks again shahz, the reason behind why I asked is because on unlocker.com where they explain on rooting and stuff, they mention to use card reader. Grateful that you made a thread in the first place.

@shaz, I found out that using win7 its doesn't use a "," for its path system variables instead it uses a ";". it would look like somthing like this.
example : %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;%SYSTEMROOT%\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\;C:\androidsdk\tools

@leviathan, Its awesome to have people like you around. You made my day. You remind me that trolls makes me get through life. Thanks.

Well, in the system variables, there may be several others already separating thhe previously installed variables. Check out how they are separated. Thats the best i can guide on that since i dont have win7 biggrin.gif do let us know about it so we can add it up in the first post too..

Leviathan, thats the one he meant. But he's using win7, maybe there are some changes in win7? Are ur screenshots from vista or 7? If its 7,that answers his question smile.gif

That's Windows 7.

I myself not sure how he came up with that cryptic strings. It's just fill in the blank kind of settings.

1. New.
2. Variable < Whatever name you want to give
3. Value < The location of your SDK tools folder.
4. OK.

Thus my value is D:\Android\tools\ :-)

Before androidsdk-r3, the usbdrivers were included am I correct?
Now you have to manually get it using sdk program.
for win7 users you can go to the device manager by:
control panel> device manager> right click the unrecognized device (ADB)> update software> browse my folders > select the usbdriver once you have downloaded it.

Eh? USB driver? This is getting a lot more confusing. You don't need any drivers as far as I know. It uses the standard usb.inf file to connect. Nothing extra at all. In fact, its just like connecting the SD card directly to the computer. Isx, try Leviathan's method and see if it works for you. Adding Android SDK should be very easy actually. smile.gif Good Luck~

i install sdk but win7 didnt detect my phone as an android device so i cant run adb scripts like adb shell reboot etc. so had to go install the usb driver in the sdk component. now its working smile.gif

haha, it was confusing at 1st. i'll add up some pics when i'm done with my mods.

about the enviroment variables i got pass that already. i was running the script of ra-recovery image then this came up; error device not detected.
so i assume the driver were not installed, my thoughts were right when i checked the device manager. downloaded usb drivers in sdk, now android device is detected.

LASTEST PROBLEM: i can't load the recovery image after adb shell reboot bootloader. it says cannot load "recovery-ra...."

02:14 - found recovery-ra-hero-1.3.2.img (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124)
02:15 - finally gave in to flashrec method.

02:22 - what do i do at flashrec again? there's phone type is ebI1/32A > blank space to type in > download recovery image which is unable to press > backup recovery image.

02:38 - read the unlocker. press backup image blah blah. got it working smile.gif

03:00 - finished with the rooted hero.

sleep.

11:09 - done with everything.

got a question how do i upgrade from recovery ra 1.2.3.img to 1.3.2? is it okay to just replace the files in the sdcard then use flashrec or will that result into my handphone being bricked?

p.s - where is the radio app?? i can't seem to find it

When you root your phone, you definitely have to wipe your phone at least once. Once you are on the MoDaCo ROM, updating does not require a wipe smile.gif

Shahz when updating Madaco ROM 3.0, I assume you just rename v3.zip to update.zip then recovery mode then install ?

Is this correct?

Yes..

Added on December 3, 2009, 6:50 pmI will be testing the 3.0 before updating it here. Don't want to risk other follower's phone. To those who want to test it before hand, feel free to get it from MoDaCo's site. There is nothing much changed actually. Only thing that concerns me is the Teknologist's 1.9 update.

Added on December 3, 2009, 6:53 pmIsx, I just saw your response. Actually, there is no need to upgrade AmonRa as long as its serving its purpose. but your phone is already rooted, so by right I believe you can easily apply the image. As for the radio, its the file with numbers in the archives biggrin.gif
