Hello LYN members,

Aloha to all Android users. You guys are among the most daring Malaysians who dare to switch from the common iPhone. I have been using HTC Hero for a few weeks now and I have to say, Google has done a GREAT job on their OS and HTC integrated it perfectly!

I'm not usually active on LYN because usually I'm here mostly for purchases. However, I would like to share my love for Android with people of my country too. I'm done with iPhone who keeps coming up with upgrades that does not meet my needs. Android does it best and all you have to do is just dare to change.

To those of you who have rooted your HTC Hero, congrats. I will also need more friends so we can help each other together to develop the Android community here.

For now, if you guys have gone to the marketplace, you guys must have realized that you can only see "FREE" apps and the paid apps are not displayed at all. The reason for this is, Android Marketplace is designed dynamically to offer paid apps only to the country that they want to support. This is analyzed using the provider band that you are using.

There are several ways to do this hack. Before this, I had to develop a custom userinit.sh file to change the band, but now you guys have an easier option. Use Market Access.

To do this, download this application:
Download Market Access

and install it using your file manager. You can download the ASTRO file manager or Linda File Manager from the marketplace (both are free) to install this app.

Once you have done that, run the application. In the main interface, select "Backup Settings" **VERY IMPORTANT!
Once you have saved your settings, go to the second tab, and select "T-Mobile [US]" (its my favorite). Tap this and a menu will load. Select "fake this provider now". Thats it.

Now, go to your Android Marketplace, and browse all the paid apps which might desire you smile.gif

Once you are done marketing, to enable your actual network provider as your provider back, go to Market Enabler, and hit "restore" and then exit the application. Thats all. Alternatively, just restart your phone and Android will reset your network to its original point. Nifty eh?

Thanks smile.gif Hopefully it can be useful to someone smile.gif

Btw bro, try using my other tute later to install the new linux kernel (instead of using swap partitions). Swap partitions will damage your SD card over time smile.gif

For those of you who have problems keying in your credit card billing address, due to the country field being a choice of countries and Malaysia not being listed, a workaround is to go to http://checkout.google.com and add your credit card details there. Next time you go into market, you can just choose that existing credit card from your phone.

I believe this may only be an issue on the 1.6 version of the Market software.

No..its not even simulation game..Its just like "virtual race"..You have to upgrade your car, get more respects, have more crews, then you race to earn money, or challenge someone real world..The results are predicted by whose account has more "advantage". Winner can rip money from the opponent which has not banked in.

Its really addictive as you play on..

For G-sensor racing, I like "Head-to-Head racing". I even bought the PRO version already wink.gif

Is there any way I can enable paid apps without using MarketEnabler? I don't mind complex instructions :-)

Yes,by pushing a userinit.sh files to change some identifiers. You will need the identifiers for both your phone and the provider that you want to fake to. Its all done by marketenabler already.

Added on November 22, 2009, 7:05 pmTo those who are having problems with the Market Enabler, please read the first post. I have added an EDIT section. Read that before you post any questions.

The main reason I refuse to use MarketEnabler is the rough UI of it. WTF with that out-of-place icon & fugly big fonts?!

Thus I go a different path to access paid apps, by using terminal :-)

If you have Better Terminal Emulator PRO

0. To check current operator

CODE
$ getprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric

I'm using Hotlink, the number is 50212.

user posted image

1. To change it to State's T-Mobile

CODE
$ setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric 310260

2. Clear cache Market.

3. Force stop Market.

user posted image

4. Go to Market.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you don't have Better Terminal Emulator PRO, you can use GScript which is much more simpler :-) 1-click with Gscript will give you those paid apps.

user posted image

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you feel attached to your PC

0. Fire up cmd.

1. IF you want to check current operator,

CODE
adb remount
adb shell getprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric

user posted image

2. Copy paste this:

CODE
adb remount
adb shell setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric 310260

3. Clear cache Market.

4. Force stop Market.

5. Go to Market.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NB: Only setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric 310260 is required to get yourself to paid apps. Just make sure you delete Market's cache and stop it before you go to market. Disregard other settings :-)

Same with MarketEnabler, you need to run this again if you reboot your Android. As simple as setprop, clear and stop Market :-)

Feel free to use other than 310260. For example 26207, or 26203, or 22802.

Great addition to the. tute bro..although i prefer ME..the ui doesnt really bother me ciz its not something i use everyday anyway biggrin.gif a hint: u can save the gsm operator settings as userinit.sh and push it to the phone too wink.gif lesser apps..but me is pretty small for me..thx for tje heads up bro..

I agree.

CODE
rm -rf /data/data/com.android.vending/cache/*
while [ 0 ]; do if [ "`getprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric`" == 12345 ]; then setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric 310260; fi; sleep 30; done &

Running the lines with userinit.sh is set-and-forget kind of thing, which is mind-blowingly simple compared to previous tricks.

The 1st line auto clear the Market's cache. The 2nd line shows that if the current operator is your Maxis/Celcom/DiGi/whatever (where no paid app is available), it will automatically change it to 310260 (T-Mobile, where those paid apps are available). Every 30 seconds.

Awesome indeed.

Unfortunately for me, so far I never get this thing running on my Hero. That's why I didn't mention it.

If you kindly please share a newbie-proof guide to this trick, I believe many of us will tremendously benefited from you.

I've downloaded the .apk file and moved it to my SD.
However I cant just install it like that.
Did some search.. and downloaded AppsInstaller from the Marketplace.
AppsInstaller found the .apk file but wont install it.
Parse Error - There is a problem parsing the package.

I got it wrong rite..?

OK, managed to install it.. but cant get it to fake..
so on the 3rd tab I only have 1 option
which is
gsm.sim.operator.numeric = 310260

this all is missing..
gsm.operator.numeric = 310260
gsm.sim.operator.iso-country = us
gsm.operator.iso-country = us
gsm.sim.operator.alpha = <leave_this_blank>
gsm.operator.alpha= T-Mobile

Shahz, managed to get it working.... but I dont see much paid apps. I cant find Jewellust and RoboWars, and the prices are in pounds..

From my little experience, certain ROM do have trouble accessing the paid apps :-(

I can't see certain paid apps with generic .66. But I can see the same apps with MCR 2.9c.

The only way I know to access the 'special' certain paid apps is by flashing your Hero to another ROM.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the trick. I set it with adb shell.

Mine is a from under Chung Hwa (46692), I remember I used to see apps in market differently before I flashed it with Cyanogen. Anyway, want these paid apps because Tumblr (aTumble) is not free, still.. hate the idea that I have to get around the market lock with T-Mobile's code. :S

Here's a list of MCC/MNC numbers if others need it.

ah this part made me jump abit, i bought and downloaded my first ever paid app - ExZeus (cool 3D robo fighting game btw biggrin.gif) yesterday evening, left it to download as it was quite huge the content file was 57MB? this morning i check and opened the game which was running fine, my battery actually went dead after downloading this game LOL almost made me late for work without the alarm clock.

then after awhile, i checked back Market, i cant see the paid apps anymore and i cant see ExZeus on the downloaded list.

i read your post, and figured i need to set the ME settings as US TMobile again, and i did it, Market has paid apps again, but ExZeus was asking to download the 57MB content again D:
i went to "restore settings" on ME back to default provider, launch ExZeus, and its working without asking me to download again, thank God! LOL!

Guys, checkout the game, its awesome 3D is something to look at. This is what Nexus One is capable of!

-----------------------------------------------

One question to shahz, how do we receive updates to the paid apps? do we have to use ME to check if there's any update?
I think apps like ExZeus would be abit different, as when i use ME, it ask me to download back the 57MB content when i launch the game when US Tmobile is loaded.

update: ok, i found out if you download a paid app using Market Enabler, you need to use back Market Enabler, then only the update will appear if there is one in the Android Market.

Once again, thanks for this great guide!

edit: i read the front page again, i see you mentioned DO NOT upgrade the app? do you mean Market Enabler upgrade or the Paid Apps that we downloaded?

update: i think it doesnt matter anymore, at least to a rooted Android 2.1 phone, can use the current latest ME. (not sure about unroot or Android version lower than 2.1.)

Your computer can't read it anyway..That file is the installer for the applications..You do not need root usually but it depends on the app you are trying to install..You can move it to your SD card and execute it through the file manager and install it..

apps are only considered "safe" if they are installed through the Market..If you manually install, first you need to enable the third-party apps option..Only then install it..There is no restriction on the installation, but you are responsible if you install it form the external source and not market..

That is a feature of Market itself..You can browse either the free stuff or the latest stuff..people like free stuff..and google made it that way for their ease..

If you can see paid apps, then it means you've succeeded..Thats the only difference between with ME and without ME..

Abit dizzy here. When I wanna buy the application. Only shows country that they support. Means No Malaysia. And input the Malaysia's postcode and state is invalid

Do I need to fake it too? Like choose US country and input US States&postcode?

this is a bit funny but,

when i use Market Enabler
i can definitely see paid apps if i search for it, or when i launch market, and the main menu/screen would show some paid apps.
but its inconsistent for the Top Paid TAB in the Market.

when i first used Market Enabler, i cant see the Top Paid TAB, just Top Free and Just In.
But after awhile, like few days/week, i can see it lolz.

yesterday, it went back to no Top Paid TAB. but i can still see paid apps if i search.

Edit: this is not a complaint, rather its just a reference to people, in case its their first time using it.

One question, I thought the reason we root the phone is to get paid apps for free? just like how iPhone works

C-note..Wrong..Definitely wrong..100% wrong..We don't root for paid apps..Paid apps just happen to be a working solution for root users..That is what iPhone has taught the people so far - jailbreak just for the apps because that is all what iPhone has - APPS!

The things that you can do when you have root is WAY more than this. First, you can partition your SD card so you can install your apps (ANY APPS) on SD card instead of the phone memory. Advantage? Save phone memory..lol..

Second, when you have root access, you can flash custom ROMs which optimizes your phone way beyond what ths stock rom can do. You can tweak the trackball color, you can tweak the CPU, you can do backups, you can even have applications that can save your pone in case something goes wrong (very long explanation which I won't do here), and a lot more.

Welcome to Android family. The place where we customize the phone way beyond than just apps wink.gif

Hope that helps~

Not a paid app, but I can't seem to find the latest Google Maps (with navigation) on the Market?

I'm using HTC Legend, Android 2.1.

Yeah, apparently Google's applications are only visible in paid market (although they are free)

Any idea how to get it, shahz?

Now that you mention about 'paid' market I noticed something. All the apps in my Market are free! The Market comes pre-installed in my Legend and it hasn't been rooted yet (not even sure if it is possible at this point of time).

Is there anywhere else I can get it? Thank you wink.gif

Yep, you need root for market enabler smile.gif

Don't worry my friend, give it a couple of week more and it will be rooted. Nexus One was rooted before it was even officially launched..lol..So there is no reason why Legend will not be rooted soon smile.gif

My Milestone seems to work better without TasKiller (and similar). Less annoyance and battery lasts longer. The built in OS manager seems to set aside unused apps automatically.

Actually, killing tasks is built into Android..TasKiller only "enhances" it..Thing is, Android will not kill background processes for as long as it has enough memory to run the next one..If it goes lower, your app launching will be a little sluggish because Android is killing applications in the background..After a while, it becomes stable..This is one the features of Linux which Android utilizes very well..

So, TasKiller is for you to kill apps and free memory before it runs lower than the treshold..Put a widget in your desktop, ignore all the important applications, and it becomes a very useful tool..

Try this, MarketPaidApps-signed.zip. You do not need Market Enabler anymore, but still on rooted phone. The best thing is that it shows "Top Paid" tabs which been missing in addition to "Top Free" and "Just In" tabs.

AMENDMENT : Leviathan ran it on 1.5 rom and Market vanished! It may only worked for 2.1 base rom.

Thanks cylon for the patched Market attached above. I replace old Vending.apk inside VanillaEclair 1.3 with this one, re-signed it, flashed it and I can confirm it works. No more MarketEnabler.

If paid apps missing again, just clear the cache, and force stop Market app.

All milestone user should have the 60 days trial version, since I bought this phone 3 months used I dont get the chance to actually try it out. The app will still run but all the POIs and the navigation guide are disabled. I dont think I will pay that much to get it running again, maybe find some ehem2 version first just to try it out.

what do u mean of install market access into your Galaxy S?

if not mistaken, Market access is a tool that require rooted phone, which allow to tipu Google that u r from other country. that's why u get that msg.

i haven't root my MS, so we have to use the other way, which is slot in oversea sim card to make the purchase. so for market access problem, mayb u have to check with those rooted expert here.

how about the setting , do we need to restore the setting each time we finish shopping ?

1) OMG!! i rooted my Desire just in 2 days...still got 17 months and 28 days warranty lol...can un-root right? biggrin.gif

2) btw, i use the market enabler, bought stuffs like crazy, paid but then stucked on the Authorizing Purchase...whats that mean? i can still download the free apps freely...but the paid apps are stucked at that.

3) and another one, after i fake the sim, i still can message and call? will it revert back to maxis? or if i call or sms it will auto-restore or what?

4)and do i need to complete my download before restoring? or i restore and the download can still continue?

5)sometimes i got force close many times for ME and the normal Market too...thats a normal bugs/crash right?

Guys i've same problem before.. try other method here:

1) find "Better Terminal Emulator" on market download and install. set root permission "always allowed"
2) Open then type : su
3) type in : setprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric 310260
4) type in : getprop gsm.sim.operator.numeric (to see ist set to 310260 or not.. if 310260 appear then u are done)
5) Go to setting -> application -> manage application -> find market -> clear cache -> force closed -> exit
6) Go to Home -> Menu -> market run it.. then u will see paid app.

Gud luck.. i did this way and its works!!  thumbup.gif

Hi..I don't know if this happened to you guys.
I've successfully manage to browse the paid apps using MA (T-Mobile US). But when I click buy later it said that my cc is invalid. I've check with CIMB and they said actually the card is valid and not declined. I've also delete the payment method in the google checkout and re-enter the card info but still k.o...what is the problem really

Get these games if you have a high-end Android..You won't regret..The graphics are fawesome and the game play is interesting:

Homerun Battle 3D - Most of you guys would avoid baseball games, but trust me, this one is seriously addictive. Its not even a baseball game. You have to perform homeruns. Multiplayer supported.

Asphalt 3D - Who doesn't know this game smile.gif

Armored Strike - Remember your worms game? This one is is in a "tank" version. Multiplayer supported too.

Farm Frenzy - This was one of my first purchases on the market and I don't regret it until today.

Heavy Gunner 3D - Shooting game. Nice graphics and fun gameplay

HAWX - Have to get it from gameloft's website. Worth noting it here. One of my favorites too.

Let's Golf! - Also need to purchase it off gameloft's website. Nice graphics, worth mentioning here.

Robo Defense - Read the post before this. Already have a reson why this is a must have smile.gif

Skies Of Glory - Another aircraft game. Uber awesome!

Nintaii - If you love challenging your brain. This is my favorite puzzle game smile.gif

Or if you are like me and don't intend to tweak the settings on the phone with any hacks or scripts, just buy a prepaid SIMCard from either the US or the UK that has ROAMING support. I got it from Ebay for RM10 (T-Mobile)... that's including shipping as well and it expires in a years time smile.gif

Then put in the new SIM Card, let it connect to our local network via roaming, turn OFF DATA roaming (you want to use the WIFI connection in your house/office/area and not the credit from your foreign SIM Card), turn ON Wifi, head to Android Market.. and there you go, you can access all paid apps (I use Google Checkout to purchase my apps). You can also buy paid apps. After buying and downloading all you want, turn the phone off. Put in your local SIM card and you will notice that you can still access or UPDATE / REMOVE the apps that you have bought or downloaded using the US / UK Sim Card smile.gif If you wish to download further paid apps or apps that aren't released in this part of the world, then you have to put in the foreign SIM Card again.

Hope that helps.

p.s It's better to get a US Sim Card that roams because some apps are restricted in the UK as well.

kelvin, you still buy from market. Market access only "unlocks" the paid apps in your actual market.

No..you don't need to change anything..Usually jsut restart your device and you will see it..Still, not all users are applicable yet..It depends on the market version that you are using too..I'm using custom market and mine shows USD..I chose that myself smile.gif

Yes, debit card can be used..Just register it to your google checkout account..

Haha, I still do not own an Android device, but i remember back then it was REALLY difficult due to all the weird stuff needed to type in terminal/cmd.....

I think this app was developed because we are not the only ones facing this problem... According to:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Remo...te-157910.shtml

It looks like in certain regions/carriers, they seem to 'censor' the apps... haha.....

Hi.

I was just wondering how does this qr code work.
I'm really lazy, don't have the patience to brows for apps on the phone.
So if I understood correctly I just put the phone on the screen and it starts to download?
I found Opera 10 mobile at http://bstdownload.com/reviews/opera-mobile-10/ and I seen a lot of sites with qr code download.

So my question is how does it really work?

You need a QR code scanner on your phone. Then, everytime you see the code, scan it with your camera and it will download the particular link smile.gif

I cant seem to access protected app with my phone. Apps like google maps i cant see. I thought it waa due to the build prop so i when to default rom.

I wasnt able to see still.

I tried so many ways stop market, clear market, clear data uninstall updates clear cache even dalvik. I was not able to see protected app. Now with marlet enabler i can see.

guys,
need some clarification here.

Just recently got a Nexus S and Market only shows free apps, even after i clear the cache and force stop. Haven't yet rooted, may i know if using appbrain i can access to paid apps, or i still have to root it, and install market access to fake the provider?

i don't have a SIM from some other country as alternative

thanks a mil!

Hey guys,I'm not a fan of the Android market eather, but if you search you can find apps outside the market.
There are lots of sites that have apps that can be downloaded with QR codes.
I found android apps on bstdownload that has some apps and games, but if you find other let us know.

Nifty eh?

I know this is not a market-problem related thread, but i'll try anyway:

Since Monday I cannot complete a download from Market. I am also unable to connect to GTalk from the app on the phone. I logged into web Gmail using this account and I was able to log in. GTalk app just keeps telling me "Could not connect to server. Will retry shortly." There is no problem with connectivity as it will show a different msg if there's no connection. Everything works fine on my phone, except Market (and GTalk).

I've tried clearing cache for Market, GTalk and GMail. But still unable to complete a download. It's stuck at 'starting download....' but download never starts.

I've tried factory data reset. The situation is still the same. No GTalk, no Market. I'm on CM6.1.1 with the old market. But I don't think that should be a problem, am I right?

I'm primarily on WiFi, and the GMail in my phone was able to retrieve mails from this google account, but as my post have stated, download never starts in Market.

So, what went wrong? I'll only flash back to stock ROM as a last resort.

EDIT:
I also remembered that the whole issue started when i tried to install Chomp thru the web Market. After I clicked 'install' on the web market, i wait for a while, opened market on my phone and it appeared under 'downloads' as 'free'. So I thought maybe need to manually click install. But the install never started. The rest of my downloads never started as well.

EDIT 2: [RESOLVED] {open back]
WiFi at my campus blocked Market access. Connected to WiFi at some mamak place and everything works fine.

EDIT3: Ok it seems I'm the only one who kena. My friend doesn't seem to have this issue. Now It's starting to look like it's the phone. Any ideas?

As I understand paid apps are restricted by the phone identifying itself as using a certain telco. How will this work with WiFi-only tablets? Will they be able to access paid apps without rooting in Malaysia?

OK I'm totally confused now.

I'm getting my HTC Incredible S soon, and then suddenly I read this post about Market Access/Enabler etc.

So does Malaysia have access to paid apps or not? Can we buy them?

I know there is the applanet thing, but I'd gladly pay for the application officially if that's what I really want.

Hi

I am new to this android thing. I have purchased the Xoom and have been using it for almost a month. And, I am liking it every bit. I have managed to install free apps from the market both amazon and android. However, I am eyeing this paid app from the android marketplace for a week now. As, I don't have an Android phone, I don't think I can follow the guideline posted at the first page of this thread. So, I am hoping if someone could tell me a way to buy paid apps on my Xoom.
