AFAIK, all banks are required by BNM to provide basic savings account with ATM without any fee

you'll just need to insist on that option no matter what the staff told you, ask to see the manager if the staff refuse to grant that option

my sister in law recently opened a islamic savings account with MBB and got herself a debit card - the staff insisted that she'll need to pay RM8 annual fees even though she clearly ask for the non fee ATM option. The staff even said each debit transaction will be counted as a withdrawal - what a nonsense. Even so, if the customer are willing to pay RM0.50 for each extra transaction above the 4 free withdrawals, they should just grant the no annual fee option.

i wrote to BNM to complain and she got her RM8 back after a few days, plus a letter from that particular MBB branch apologizing for the so call "misunderstanding"

i thk most or all of the local banks offered free ATM card for BSA holders

yup, that's what I'll do
so I wonder why anyone would like to withdraw to debit/credit card

you can select activate permanently or temporary

most if not all of the credit card has better rewards than debit card
else i'll jump ship straight away

Just some examples:
AMEX Gold CC gives 2.5% for petrol, groceries and few other stuff, 1% for the rest
PBB has lots of cash back promo - subject to tnc, ranging from 8% to 12%

Debit card normally can't match those

Most of the time:
PBB ATM - out of cash on Sunday
PBB Cash - full of cash on Sunday

I wonder when will we get those double functions ATM which can withdraw and deposit at the same machine

those machines can help to prevent full of cash for CDM and out of cash for ATM, as ppl can put in money and some other ppl can take out

maybank does not have standalone debit card, it must be link to an savings/current account
