I have ask a few, and usually their reasons are not the same as mine. so i like to gauge the common reasons

As for me, here are my reasons:

1. i am a family man, so when i make decisions, i need to think about everybody and not just me. I need a console where everbody can play together. I need my wife to play too. She is super anti gaming (nope, if u think your gf/wife is more anti gaming, i will introduce u to my wife then only u know). but with the wii, she plays boogie superstar, RB beatles, and wii sports resort. if ps3/xbox360, i can only see her playing rb beatles. actually i have been contemplating of getting a ps3 long time ago, but it would be selfish of me. so i am waiting for the moment when ps3 can become more family friendly.

2. I hate the analog stick when playing fps. I can't play fps on ps3/xbox360. Its so hard to aim. I prefer point and shoot. I always wonder why ps3/xbox360 after all these years still stick to analog stick for fps. its so unnatural.

3. I like the idea of it doubling as a fitness gadget. dancing, tennis, and even drumming will make u sweat like a pig. oh, and after playing mario kart wii for an hour, u notice how painful your arms get from holding the 'steering' on the air without any support. yes, i get maro kart wii aches too.

EDIT: as of today i have both ps3 and wii. i would say they don't really compete which each other, rather they make gaming more complete. after 5 months, i must say the above 3 points still wins on the wii. ps3 is for me and me only (not for my kids), and i still hate the ps3 ds3 controller (although i am getting d hang of it now), and i don't have any fitness games on ps3. but ps3 have very good mature games. and amazing graphics.

i got it first out of my 2 consoles (excluding DSes) mainly because i love Nintendo made games.

then there was the "innovation" which i believe could benefit a number of game genres. some of the initial DS games made me believe.

i must admit though not many developers have taken good advantage of the "new control" and made it shine.

i own a PS3 too and it's mostly the same reason. for the games i like to play eg. Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, etc.etc

Motion control...'nuff said.
PS3 and Xbox playing catch up now.

I bought mine for only 1 game. Personally, I'm not a huge fan of preset waggle controls but to each to their own.

Nintendo equals difference. That's what I have always felt after the DS came out. I choose their consoles above everything else first. And now, I'm playing catch up with the PSP. hehe.

simple answer, I don't choose...I bought them all...so no need to picky in term of games...

If console come out with mouse and keyboard dont ya think the console is slowly turning into pc? The purpose of console is to keep it simple; insert the game and play straight away. Since the introduction of xbox the console indeed have slowly become a pc, like the introduction of media playing capability etc. Good idea for console turning into pc? I dont think so! Now ps3 is said to be able to run linux, so wat's next? Windows 7 on next gen console? Play fps with mouse n keyboard? Install game into console and......oh my, just call it a pc then.

i chose Wii first coz it was cheap among the others at that time...and I fall for its wiimote and nunchuck gimmick. My wife doesn't play games but she doesn't mind me playing it too. Sometimes she plays those puzzle game and sudoku on the DS.

As for the Wii after a while it gets old and new games with the genre i like rarely came out and more ppl i knew are online on the other console.

So i got PS3 after that. If got extra money i'll get the 360 too.

Now i'm just keeping the wii so that someday, my daughter can play it with me. Before that time, it just sits there

Ramz, my reasons are exactly the same as yours. Although in my case, my wife doesn't mind me playing games, but I thought I must be considerate as well, and buy a machine that both of us can use.

Try playing Tiger Woods 10 on the Wii. That'll give you a good workout, not to mention improving your golf swing!

consoles are here to stay, coz pc is very leceh la, kena install driver la, tengok specs ngaam dengan game atau tidak la, dan sebagainya. pc gaming is like gaming on a modded wii, minus the motion controls, hehe. but i must admit, if u play nothing but fps, pc is very attractive even with all the lecehness.

pc is good for RTS n FPS..other than that, can opt for consoles.

I know, I know, there are emulator and Rom for PC, but its just not the same for me.

I bought Wii bcos of MARIO < main reason
Others are Supporters for me

1. got a lot of exclusive games
2. unique gameplay
3. price is cheaper than ps3/xbox360
4. homebrew
5. not hd ready/full hd capability

for me, it's mainly the titles.

-there are a lot of niche-import games for it, and since development costs is cheaper for the wii compared to the other current-gen consoles, a lot of smaller studios can produce games for it. Guys like Suda51, the people at Xseed and occasionally Atlus are eager to provide the titles for it.
yeah shovelware comes with lower development costs, but it is only an issue for the less-discerning gamers (i.e clueless parents). There are tons of brilliant titles for the wii that most people give a miss for lazy-waggle-input-carnival-games.

-Backwards compatibility: I haven't had a Nintendo Console since the SNES, and with Gamecube BC, the wii has a much more expanded library, compared to the ps3 which decided to forgo BC for some retarded reason. also VC allows me to catch up on the great nintendo games I missed throughout the years.

And of course, most titles available for the ps3/360 are available on the PC. I have a decent PC running for my current gen fix.

What game is that? What are the other games worth getting for kids between 9 - 15?

Because of Animal Crossing, Brawl, and Virtual Console (and hoping got kiddie game go to it ).

Now I planning to get a PS3 to supplement it.

also b4 it got cracked, the 360's ori market wasn't doing too badly. it is virtually dead nowadays.

and seeing that the 'pirates' also sell ori ps3 games (which must only mean that there IS a decent demand for them) it would appear that "most malaysians cannot afford ori games" should read "most malaysians prefer not to spend on ori games" instead.

for people who choose not to spend on ori games there is the wii, and to a lesser extend, the 360.

i believe that was b4 online gaming come into play. at least for me, although wii hv that 'cheap' games, it doesn't appeal to me to stay with it for too long mainly coz i want to play online with my friends and wii does not give me more games to sooth that urge (of course there's some game there for online, but the games are really limited), hence i migrated to the PS3. i think the last wii games i played was medal of honor heroes 2 and nowadays, the feature that i looked for in most games that i want to buy is the online capabilities / supplies of dlc.

for parents that just wanna give their kids something to play, with cheap entry price, wii is the perfect choice...yes, most Msian non gamer parents don't care about ori or not. As long as can play, it's a good deal.

I bought for one game only. Super Mario Galaxy. After I've finished it, I sold my Wii as I think the graphic on ps3 is better to display at least 720p on my 32" LCD TV
Unless Wii is going to release at least 720p output, otherwise 480p looks like crap on big screen LCD TVs.

I thinking of buying wii because my nephew and my parents can play along.
But thinking of the graphic quality, I worry it wont be nice, just like how my ps2 connect to my 37" LCD now.

just google "comparison wii ps3 360" and there will be about a dozen articles. but not many sites will justify your instinct. trust your instinct.

but from your requirements about your parents and nephew want to join in the fun, assuming they are new to gaming, then u can't go wrong with the wii.

the graphics is better then ps2 overall, somewhere between ps2 and ps3/360. for the same game that exist in ps2, the graphics is better. and this is even without component cables. remember u can further improve graphics to about 0.5HD with component cables

hehe, i was in your shoes before i bought my wii. i was a graphic whore too because during my childhood i play fps on the pc, so the choice was really though. but i thought playing fps on analog stick is a step backwards from the mouse. and there is this 'family' factor that is forcing me not to choose ps3, so i chose wii. i don't regret, but i sure do miss HD graphics. but i do enjoy fps on the wii tremendously, even if its not 'in' to play fps on the wii. ps3 is stilll under consideration, just that i can't find a compelling reason other then there are games in ps3 that i can't find in pc. but the damn analog stick i hate......

which do u think is better? fps using joystick or using "wand"?

one factor that made me choose wii over ps3 is what games do i want to play on the consoles. people keep saying, ps3 graphics are waaaaaaaaaay better than wii. i strongly agree. but at the same time PC graphics are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than ps3. i have a gaming pc.

the only ps3 games i would want to play :

streetfighter 4 (got pc version- pc version loading between fights is almost non existant)

resident evil 5 (also got pc version- ps3 can f***off and die)

now the only ps3 game i would want to play is god of war 3.

Thinking of getting a Wii for my 3 boys (10-15 years) who have been playing PS2. Would they like Wii games as they got used to PS2? Or would I be selling them later othewise collecting dust?

From a child who know what he/she is doing upto grandparents genre
I guess u just need to Teach them how to play by basic.

Wiimotes = Hold it , Tilt it , Swing it , Shake it.
Wii balance board = Stand on it , Move ur body.

remember u r hearing this from a wii fan, but not a blind wii fan.

nintendo nail it by making it the best family console ever. ps3/360 can't beat that family appeal. just imagine playing modern warfare 2 with your kids? u kidding right. but playing wii sport resort with your kids is really a great memorable time with them. so if u have a family, u can't go wrong i promise u. in fact i bet the reason u still thinking of a ps3/360 is because of yourself. u want it for yourself. but thinking of the family u know the wii is more appropriate.

by that constraint, wii should be ur choice.

PS3 is only for me (and i think that's why u're still undecided coz u think u want it for u, but not ur family as a whole). Buy wii first, later when u hv enough funds, buy the other one (if u still feel unsatisfied). Later u can even attach it to a normal crt n put it in the other room so as not to disturb the main tv if u dun play it anymore.

That's it. Mind made up. Be getting one ASAP (kids getting restless 2 weeks into the holidays).

Anyway, I chose Wii over PS3 and XBOX 360 because:

1)Games on PS360 has the PC Version
2)Intrigued by Wii's motion control
3)There is a large softmodding base
4)Was looking forward to play Super Mario Galaxy (A bit boring, to be frank)

my preference is unmodded wii. i won't sound bias, so i will just give u the facts, focusing on what sellers won't tell you:
1. like your ps2, modding a wii allow u to play pirated games (the 10 games u getting). unmodded wii plays originals only.
2. modded wiis are not perfect, so usually sellers will give u simple instructions like never do a wii system update yourself through wi-fi connection. that is good advice, unless u dig deeper into the world of modding. but by not updating, you will miss all the future updates with new features, and services which newer games will use at some point. nintendo releases about 2 to 3 updates a year average.
3. the wii comes out of the factory unmodded. so your wii is already tampered, or worst - used. the seller will of course always say it is new.
4. depending on your mod setup, some games (especially newer/future ones, and definitely not the 10 games u be getting) won't work. i can't give u the exact list coz it depends on your mod setup. U can choose to just ignore and don't play those games.
5. wii shop channel allows u to download games u can't find on the shelves or anywhere else. that channel either doesn't work now, or will not work in the future (when nintendo releases an update).
6. the above problems can be overcome, but its technical and requires hassle on your part. or u can just accept these shortcomings for a modded wii.

for alternative sellers, u can approach mr kyoyogami (he needs a better nickname)

NEVER think that trying to fix these problems are easy, it takes time to learn. Believe me, I went through all this.

The reasons i don't want xbox360 is because it might burn one day. N no online feature for rm10 games if im going to but it..

xbox360 jasper unit itself have much improvements in terms of its reliability. sometimes i am just surprised with the loading
speed in comparison with ps3 of the same title.

The loading speed is because blu ray got longer load time compare to DVD.. XD

- usb games supported
- internet browsing capabiliy
- can play mutiplayer such as COD and some wiiware games FOC
- fun to play not with boring analog controller
- family members & gf loves it.

honestly, it actually feels good to be focused on Nintendo platform alone. yes, i am Nintendo inclined by nature... hahha.

I have a wii, a ps3 and a gaming pc..

so far I am still on wii :-
1. I play 3 players mario kart, and it gives hell of excitement and funs, never got bored from the team race.

2. It has a lot of cooperative game; compare to ps3, unless you have another ps3 at home, your family/gf only able to look at you playing and unable to participate with you together.

3. Wii has different variety of game plays for which it doesn't exist in Ps3, PC or Xbox : Try Macara/ Trauma Center and you'll know what I mean.

4. Wii brought laughter to my family, I hardly see my family laugh or feel excite when I am beginning my ps3 (Except for Uncharted 2); but with wii, my whole family sits at the living room and laugh together because of our action and the sports game are funny

5. Lucky for me, I've updated and managed to configure wii to latest patch (able to play all pirated games) and I still have like 30+ titles haven't been completed. OMG

6. With wii, I have never feel boring while gaming (have you played FF13 a while and feel like, ah it's so boring that I am alone here, better go out). The boring gone as I play with my family members and best, my friends and girlfriend

So I choose Wii, I am not bias towards PC or PS3, but their games, are getting dull with good graphic, but similar gameplay

ask u. would u have bought the games if u can't pirate? i am sure its a yes. just like how u bought your uncharted 2. my wii is not modded, and u r not making it easy for me to have those games available to me. and try not to be proud of pirating. i know lots do it, but at least they not proud about it, and that is a good start.

Thinking of Wii that is capable of becoming media center with the flexibility to access all nintendo platform games I have turned from PS3 to Wii. Pirating is an issue but its no way to deny that the fun of playing it.

Wii is a good machine for exercises.

No other platform could match Wii for the likes of Wii Fit Plus, EA Sports Active - More Workout & Wii Sports Resort. These are fabulous especially the one by EA.

It brings exercises to a whole new serious level. The game ensures that you do some warm-up before every exercises, to make sure you do not hurt yourself. Same goes for cooling-down. I've lost some weight myself with the game (used together with the resistance band) and i'll recommend it to any of you folks out there who shares the same goal with me.

i have wii and ps3 now. wii is great for the 1st party made by nintendo games. i play ps3 now coz my wii is away from me most of the time (long story), but i really, really miss my mario kart and my music games, and my dancing games.

but ps3 can kick ass too. i love gaming and i don't care which console entertains me.

I am not proud of pirating after all it's the developers' sweat and blood to create the games but we didn't pay for it.

I have bought lots of original games on my PC, iphone, and PS3. But hey, after all he asked me what's the reason to get a wii and I just speak my 2 cents.

irregardless whether you find it being proud or not is not of importance here. it seems to imply that it's FINE and CONVENIENT to pirate stuff for Wii. i suppose u still remember u were giving opinion wat u found "advantageous" to stay gaming on Wii ... that should not have been listed as one in my opinion.

I bought my Wii just a few days ago... mainly because I rarely have the chance to play games for long at home... but when I do have time, it's PS3 or PC gaming for the whole day...

I find the Wii pretty darn good for games that I can just pick up and play for a few minutes to an hour just to kill some time unlike my PS3 where I usually have to commit at least a couple of hours to really enjoy and get into the game.

hahaha... pity u. Think about it this way la. Only by playing Mario Kart Wii can you legitimately throw stuff at your wife without running the risk of kena report to polis.

Similarly, only by playing SMB Wii can you stomp on your wife legitimately. Not that I recommend doing it in real life.

Actually,i'm planning to get a wii too because i can play games with family members,friends. The console just too versatile. For high demanded games l can do that on my pc.

On your point of view, yes maybe you find that the point is quite offensive; but on my point of view, it's an advantage given to me to enjoy a little more on Wii.

Perhaps you are rich enough to have all originals on Wii and manage to order the non-available games in Malaysia from other country. I am not so that's a point to me to get a Wii but not you.

We original gamers are not that rich. But we make do. There are avenues to get cheaper games. Buy second hand, off LY.net say. Or buy off US ebay, they are damn cheap there, sometimes only RM30 per disc! But the problem is getting it back to Malaysia lah. That's when your network of friends come into play.

See? there are ways and means of doing things.

its a myth that buying original is expensive. its not. really.

1. u don't need to play the whole wii catalog to be happy. i have only 10 games and i am satisfied. i haven't played the 1000++ remaining games, and i don't need to.
2. u can trade your used games. u buy 2nd hand or just trade with games u don't fancy anymore. i am still dreaming the day wii games can be traded like ps3 games.
3. u save time debugging and tinkering your wii. time is money. some people pay maintenance fee to some lucky shops to do this when your wii should be maintenance free. also all those trips back to the shop coz your pirate game don't work is also money.
