i need a car within 30k range or lower .
i was driving honda city before . 2005 model .
but currently my bro's coming back from overseas , and so the car's probably going back to him .

used cars is fine with me as long as it does not exceed 3 to 5 years .
i've been aiming piccanto , but heard my mum said the engine's not that good , is that true ?
*
Hmm what i can think off is the used myvi around 30-40k range. If u insisted below 30k, a used kelisa or kenari from 2005 model is possible option.

Picanto is a fine car but i would choose a local car with japanese DNA rather than korean.

Hi hi. I'm thinking, what sort of Alfa can I get with a RM23k budget?
*
Alfa 155 and 146 from the 90st, but serious are u sure u wanna get those? Its a nightmare to maintain for sure.

QUOTE(ck_chew @ Jan 14 2010, 11:48 PM)
Brand : Honda / Toyota
Budget : Around rm70k
New/Used/Unreg : Used (of course =D)
Transmission: Auto
Specs : Whichever suitable with the price
Remarks : Needs to have a minimum of double Airbags, fully documented service with respective Toyota/Honda service centres, no crash history.

Any recommendations or perhaps even offers? Very interested to get one soon.

TIA!!
*
U can go for either

toyota vios 06-07 models
honda city 06-08 model
toyota corolla altis 1.8 05-06
honda civic 1.7 ES 04-05

Btw why not just settle for a new vios since u can afford 70k and above?

I'm not satisfied with the things that come with the lowest range Vios. I'm quite concerned about things like safety etc (New Vios doesn't come with any Airbags). So i might be looking for a high specs 2nd hand car

BTW, are there any recommended 2nd hand dealers offering 2nd hand Vios/City??
*
Try cahaya auto at Puchong or Cheras autocity.

working for glc currently.

what is the max loan bank can give me?

can recommend a car for me? please dont recommend malaysian made car to me. already owned (inherited lol) an old iswara. i dont mind second hand cars.
*
U can afford for a new vios/city, or go for the forte. Usually u need to settle downpayment of min 10% of the car prize n 90% can be covered by loan. With approx 3k after epf/socso and with my 1/4 per month for ur monthly installment rule, u can afford at max RM800 per month. See how long u wanna take ur loan n how much u can pay for downpayment n u can then know what u can afford.

Specs : 1.5 IDS / 1.3 saga
Remarks : Which one is better buy? used Honday city 04/03 or new proton saga

Dont know which one should get new saga or used honda city 03/04 year. New saga got warrantly but see forum seem got a lot problem even its new. Used City not sure the condition if just test driver for few minutes....really dont know which one should get.

Hope to get know what u guy think... thanks

Pick the used city, its a much better car than the saga. Remember check the service record n test drive it, see if the CVT gearbox is working fine.

1. How to i know whether gearbox got problem during test drive?

2. It's gearbox problem will happen to all city just depand to time?

3. its got two batch of city which are 7 gears and 5 gears? and from forum, 5 gears will not have gearbox problem.

look at forum, changing cvt gearbox would cost 20k.....

*
Go for a used civic 2006-2008 1.8 at 90k and below. U can also consider another 1 gen older version of civic which is the ES for less than 80k.

U may need to inspect the car urself to see if everything is okay. For me, ensure there a service book to indicate the car is properly serviced by Honda and test drive it to see if everything is working fine. Unless if there signs of engine oil leak, everything should be ok.

*
Well u mentioning the 1st gen vios and 2nd gen vios which is the current vios, also known as the dugong. Actually both versions are more or less the same although the dugong has bigger space n more spacious than the 1st gen. Many ppl like the looks of the 1st gen although the dugong with bodykits is always a looker.

U can get the used 1st gen around 45-60k from 2004-2007 but for the dugong, u may need at least 60-70k from end 2007-2008 units.

Take out the BMW, its not realistic to own and not to mention to maintain.

U can opt for the waja or saga BLM here. To choose, its all depend if u want a new car or a used car. New cars has better advantage in terms of warranty while although the waja is a better car than the saga blm, u may wanna check properly on the quality and condition to avoid headaches.

Hi travis,

I'm a college student right now, my father intend to get me a car which cost around 15k-25k second hand car.

My top 5 choices are
1.Hyundai Accent (Auto or Manual)
2.Kia Picanto (Auto or Manual)
3.Proton Waja ( Auto / Manual )
4.Saga LMST ( Manual )
5.Savvy ( Manual)

Could you please let me know the maintainence cost for all the 5 models? And also FC for them. smile.gif

THanks, appreciate your help.
*
Pls use the form so i know what ur budget or specs required.

Anyway, with ur budget, the used waja from 2001-2002 is achievable. But u may need to fork more for maintainence due that proton batches during those yrs are quite notorious. FC wise is going to be around 10-12km/l which is still ok for a 1.6 saloon car.

U can opt for the used saga LMST which should be economical to run or maintain.

I would prefer the savvy manual in this case as it has the best FC in ur options. Maintainence might be a worry but should be economical. I cant estimate the maintenance cost so u may wanna check on the savvy owners thread in this forum.

Hmmmmm

I really not sure what sort of impressions u need to make. Within 25k i can think of a used kelisa from yr 2002-2004 if u dont mind a subcompact hatchback.

I would like to recommend a 15 year old sentra, corolla(SEG, AE101 series)/civic(EG) around that price range if u looking for a saloon car. But those cars are aged so since u driving a very old car, i not quite sure if u dont mind driving another old car.

Would like to know the difference between waja 1.6 and waja 1.8 , what's the difference between the two cars? I found out that 1.8 is cheaper compared to 1.6 waja. Why is that so? =/
*
the 1.8 engine is actually sourced from renault but mated with the 4 speed auto gearbox from mitsubishi. Its like mixing croissants with wasabe so the results is disasterous. The waja 1.8 is prone with problems so that explains why it is cheaper than 1.6 in terms of used car value.

Therefore, avoid the 1.8 like a plague and go for the 1.6A instead, hopefully the mitsubishi engine one not the campro (per 2005).

Interest rate might be high at 4-5% or more. Consult various banks n see.

QUOTE(cphilip @ Feb 5 2010, 10:10 PM)
THANKS!

I do like toyota but i was thinking more on proton and perodua honestly because compared to toyota or honda which i can only get the older models (pre 1998) for my cash budget, there are some protons or peroduas that are manufactured after 2000.

I must say the kenari as a fuel saver has attracted me but i am sad because i heard that as a 1.0cc vehecle, it struggles when climbing up genting.

What then is my next best choice for a fuel saving car?

After your recommendations of honda civic, i did some search n mudah.com and i must say that the design is very very pleasant. I wonder how fuel efficient they are compared to proton waja, iswaras or toyotas seg?

I believe honda parts must be more on the more expensive side compared to toyota if i am not wrong.

So, if i do go for your recommendations, which is more fuel efficient, toyota seg or honda eg?
If toyota seg, which is prefered and why, 16 valves (black top) or 20 valves (silver top)?

and one thing is for sure - i think none of the toyota seg, honda eg, proton iswaras / wajas can match kenari in terms of fuel saving, am i right?

Thanks! smile.gif
*
Well those cars are quite old so dont expect their FC to be as good as modern new cars. U may run around 10-12km/l which should be decent enough for a 1.6cc car. Go for the manual if u can.

If u insist good FC, kenari or kelisa is a better choice.

5. Transmission : Prefer manual, or tiptronic

a) 4-5 NCAP rating
b) twin air bags
c) good sound insulation and comfort (plan to do moderate ICEing)
d) good FC (12km/L or above for pure city)
e) 65% highway 35% city most of the time
So far, seems like Gen 2 CPS is the only one that almost fits the bill. Are there other Jap/Conti cars that you think can fit my requirement? Thanks in advance =D.
*
Hmm gen2 NCAP i doubt its 4 stars so its out unless u dont mind it sweat.gif

Well if safety is priority and i have highly doubt NCAP is implemented to our cars except if its conti, the next best thing is the used honda city at 50-60k. It is derieved from the honda jazz platform which scores 4 stars in NCAP. U can opt for a used jazz from 2003-2004 idsi version as well. Both is ensured to have good FC. Both also uses CVT so its something like a triptronic as well.

Another option is the used 1.6 Peugeot 206 at 30-40k. NCAP 4 stars, should have good FC and triptonic gearbox as well. But quite hard to find a used unit here moreover need to be extra becareful when considering the car.

Hmm, with ur salary u can go fine with a new saga BLM or a perodua viva. Starch till 9 years loan is possible but its torturing. May suggest to put downpayment up to 20% of the car price n take up to 7 years of loan instead.

I only entertain post that is following the form as below and realistic post. Post that is for "shock sendiri" n unrealistic will not be entertained.

1. Brand : Honda civic 1.7 / city vtec (below 2006)/ any suggestion
2. Budget : 60K max
3. New/Used/Unreg : used
4. Specs : Full Spec
5. Transmission : manual/auto
7. Type : Sedan

Any good this 2 model ? with better in FC and best comfort and handling.
any issue on this model ? pls share
*
I would pick the city vtec here. The city wins the FC over the civic due to its light weight and the CVT gearbox. I drove my bro's city vtec before and its is a good car to drive. I would prefer the facelifted version which is out by end of 2005 n starting of 2006. U can find that below 60k now.

Just test drive the city and check the gearbox by changing its gears to see if everything work fine. Check the service manual to see if its properly maintained by the previous owner.

The civic ES 1.7 is considered as one of the less popular civic among its lineup. It suffers from its poor n bumby rear suspension which made the ride poorer.

2. Budget : 1K ~ 1.5K / month (for 3~5years loan) | OTR: 50~60K
3. New/Used/Unreg : New

5. Transmission : Auto

Looking for car with big consideration on the resell-value and maintenance fees
*
Hmm u have plenty of options here, either a new hi spec persona and u can settle for 3 years if u going for max 1.5k installment per month. Stratch it to 5 years and u can afford a new vios already, E spec.

The vios is guaranteed to have good resale value but the persona should be fine considered it is one of the finest proton models produced.

1. Peugeot 407 year 2005/06
2. 85K
3. Used
4. CBU, 2.0L, 7airbags.
5. Tiptronic
6. NA
7. Sedan
8. is this car worth buying ? CBU price back in 2004/05 was 160K.
*
Now the brand new sells at 120-130k. That explains a huge drop of resale value esp CBU units.

Apart of that the 407 is a good car and ensured it is well serviced by the previous franchise owner, cycle n carridge. It should be able to be serviced by naza and try bargain alittle more n u wiill get a sweet car.

1. Brand : Proton BLM SE (new) or Waja 1.6 (2nd)
2. Budget : Around RM30-40k for loan
3. New/Used/Unreg : Like above
4. Specs : Full spec
5. Transmission : Prefer manual
6. NA or FI : NA
7. Type : Sedan
8. Remarks : Need for my travelling one time per month 500km KL - Kuantan - KL . Need good fuel consumption and feel comfort when driving.

My wife have been using MYVI and this car no bonnet. Now i'm looking for car with bonnet.
*
I would pick the waja 2nd hand, go for the pre campro ones. But used waja are very tricky to fine good units so be vary. How about increase the budget alittle n for 40-50k++ u might as well get a baseline persona or a M range persona manual. That a more favorable option to me. smile.gif

Happy CNY folks! smile.gif

hi, juzt wanna y'all opinions.  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

currently i'm willing to allocate between rm800 to rm900 per month for my car installment.
assuming i take a 5 or 7 years loan scheme, with rm10K downpayment,

what car should i buy? car model?
should i go for a 50K car but with 3.88% interest rate or should i go for a 75K car but with 2.55% interest rate? should i go for a compact or sedan? as currently i'm 28yr.

my criteria are:
-new car
-90% city, 10% highway driving condition
-reasonable fuel efficient
-easy to maintain (cheap & easy to source spare parts)
-reliable

thanks in advance

currently i'm eyeing on the Swift and Myvi (sorry but no proton coz i got too many personal bad experience with it).
assuming that banks will charge 3.88% interest for myvi and 2.55% for Swift, which 1 should i take?

assuming i choose the myvi, i'm willing to take a 3 or 5 year loan. but if i choose Swift, i'm willing to take a 7 year loan.

currently i can only afford a sedan like City or Vios if i take a 9 year loan. but i don't know what's the interest rate for City and Vios.
*
Well all depends if u want a Vinci shoes or Prada shoes. One is affordable while another is much more premium and expensive. Still both are shoes and will just do fine for ur footwear needs.

So as this case, if u decide to go sensible with ur wallet, the myvi should do fine. I would prefer the swift more as i love to drive alot but seriously for ur case, the myvi will do fine.

Sorry,
But i feel like want to goes for Forte 1.6sx,
and ignoring the resell-values issue...

What do you think?
*
That a even better choice. I scarped the forte as the 2nd hand value is doubtful as ur requirement needs. I really cant comment much on its resale value but i believe it will be improvement compared previous korean car.

Unless if u plan to use more than 5-6 yrs, resale value is not a priority anymore.

2. Budget : wanna keep monthly  payment below 500..as low as i can.no down payment can?
3. New/Used/Unreg :new
4. Specs :the standard stuff i guess..
5. Transmission :auto
6. NA or FI :NA??
7. Type :sedan i guess
8. Remarks : im a big guy.175cm height.100kg plus...hehe.was aiming for myvi but my fren told me my height n built i should go for saga.wht u guys think?
*
The myvi is spacious and for ur height the myvi should be fine. Hmm tricky to find car salesman w/o downpayment as most need min 10% of the car price.

Why not settled for a used myvi? The 2005 auto 1.3 standard can be fetched at 30-35k. Should be okay for u here.

8. Remarks : need a car bigger than kancil, used, second car for daily commute to work (40km each way). Reliable. less maintenance cost & low FC

i'm thinking of kelisa, but is there anything else out there? wink.gif
*
Do u mind going for a used japanese saloon like the civic, corolla or sentra? U can fetch those cars which were 10 yrs older, but getting loan for such cars might be tricky. Spend some money for wear n tear parts n u will get a reliable car

I wanted to recommend a used waja but finding a used unit that is reliable could need some efforts as most used waja will have quality defects. The used kelisa is a safer option though.

Why not settle for a used city or vios? U may get a 2004-2005 model around 50k, which should be possible with ur 700 per month allocation.
