Hi Travis, thanks for all the contribution you've made on this thread, appreciate it. smile.gif

Anyway, for those who're looking for Honda City / Toyota Vios / Myvi combination, please use the search function before posting a new inquiry. Because there's a lot of member has asked the same question with the same comparison car.

Please let me know if i need to update anything on the first page, or keep those suggestion coming. I will add them to the first page.

Thank you.

Im planning to get mitsubishi triton ( brand new ) next 2 month...feb2010..may be the 2.5 diesel turbo already enough..is it good ? Im using it as my main transport and also for my biz'..
*
Unless u doing a transportation or contractor business i dont see why u should go for a pickup. Perhaps picking sets of rockband/guitar hero will do? tongue.gif

I think the new mitsu 4x4 triton is a good buy, but other alternatives to consider is the isuzu one. 2500 cc roadtax is expensive at 880 while the 3000cc will cost u even more. wink.gif

Better reconsider if u really want a pickup. Otherwise a used proton arena is a worthy choice if u in budget.

What is the current 2nd car interest rate like? Planning to get a 2nd Lancer GT 2.0...

I think a car less tahn 5 years old will easily fetch from 3.75-4% interest rate, depending how long is ur loan as well.

please help me,

im asking this in behalf of my friend,

he want to buy a NEW car, doesnt care what brand, dont even care p1 or p2,
but what car can he get with a 500-550 budget of monthly payment?

hes looking at viva with rm360 monthly, but i told him, he can get a better car, with that monthly budget for loan payment

icon_question.gif

thanks,
*
I would like to know what is his extact budget and how many years of loan he wanna take?

when i show my friend the naza bestari, now he wan to opt for the naza bestari pulak  sweat.gif

can anyone let me know whats the monthly payment for naza bestari?
found a few thread stated that it comes with 0 interest 0 dp
*
I dont think there avail stock for naza bestari. It sells at 60-70k in which from ur estimation he cant afford it as well. Like what others says, even with 7-9 year loan with RM500 per month i think he can afford until max the myvi. Best is to settle for the new viva or saga blm.

I recall there such promotion to clear off the stock of the bestari a couple of months back. Guess the promotion is now over. wink.gif

I even know that they discounted the bestari until less than 50k. That something that explains why i dont like naza. They discount like no mercy that will put a very bad effect to the resale value for the current owners. wink.gif

I'm debating between these 3 choices with particular order:
1.used City idsi
2. used Vios
3. new Myvi

The only thing I'm concern of is the CVT gearbox problem for City idsi. Have they fixed this for all 03-04 cars?

Recently my friend's daddy recommended me to buy a second hand 2004 honda city with the price around the same with new MyVi SE (RM 52K)
Was wondering which one worth for the money. In terms of performance, sure the old city will win.
However, it is still a recon car though.
Anyone? Please guide me whether it is a smart consumer to buy new or recon car.
Thanks.  tongue.gif  tongue.gif

I think i have given the same advise from my previous post. But anyway......

1st check the used car condition from body, engine and interior and check the spare tyre compartment to see if there any accident damage. Then check if there a service booklet found and ensure it is serviced every 5k km by Honda.

Give it a test drive by checking the ABS/Airbags lights on and off upon putting the key into ignition, check if the engine sound is not noisy, and then most importantly, test drive it and see if u can perform gear change in the gear shift and steering w/o problems. Check the brakes if its working and accelerator as well.

Nego to a lower figure if possible, i think it can be fetched below 50k. Hunting a used unit may be time consuming cause u wont want to find a problematic unit. Take time and negotiate properly.

If u want a fuss free experience, settle for the new myvi SE. Hope this helps.

Any idea if idsi go beyond 140kmph...what will happen to the car though?  hmm.gif

idsi is more for fuel saving and normal driving so its good enough for normal driving. VTEC dont differ so much although it has extra ponies on the engine. I dont think both engines has any porbs go above 140kmh apart of a slighty noiser engine.

U can get a 2004 vtec version for 48-52k. Good luck hunting

WHich one is a better choice?
I wanan downpayment Rm 20k, interest rate for vios is 3.5% and proton is 3.77%
*
I would love the vios for this esp if u looking at reliability and fuel consumption. There isnt much gen2 cps much due to production halt and u may need to wait for many months for that. The new persona is worthwhile if u want a new car. New cars means u got manufacturer warranty which is a plus.

Hmm u dont have much choice unless if u looking at used waja or persona. That also u need to put until 40k at best as a used 07 persona can be fetched at 30k++

Do ur search at motortrader and u might find ur choices.

If u insist, a used saga LMST from 06-08 could be possible around 20k or less.

Any point in getting a car now or wait until 2010?

I suppose yes, unless there are some really attractive promotions coming before the end of the year.

Any thoughts on this?  Thanks.

Welll it depends if u want to keep ur car for long. It will effect resale value for sure but if u looking for a long term car and loves freebies and discounts, the end of yr car is worthy.

Korean cars (pre forte) fared no better than proton so avoid at all cost. Trust me on this one.

cons - few on the road, parts ?? reliability ??

Sylphy
pros- fc, x-cvt, size(length)
cons - nvh, build quality

Other cars to recommend in this range, something comfortable, good nvh, good fc

U have plenty of options for 2.0cc saloon cars like the upcoming forte 2.0, honda civic 2.0 and honda accord 2.0. If resale value and reliability is a concern then pick the sylphy. Btw the sonata should be phrase out as the new sonata is out in Korea this year.

U gonna be kidding me, there is no way u can get monthy loan payment of 100-200 per month. But seeing ur basic salary is okay actually u can go up to 550-600 per month. With that say for 7 year loan u can afford a saga BLM. But seriously would advise u to top up some money since u need to pay 10% of the car price for downpayment.

Any suggestions?

Looking for sports car ya?

I rather look for unmodified units of 350z rather than the supercharged version and avoid the bodykit since u mentioned the roads is sibu are bad enough. Other alternatives to consider is the honda integra type R as well.

For that choice seeing u will have ur own family soon a iswara LMST is more favorable due that it has a bigger boot but the kelisa is much economical to maintain.

I like the SW20 MR2. I think it should be no prob but be vary as the next few years u wont be getting parts from chop shops, but there always another way to source for parts.

2004 city Vtec/IDSI
2004 vios G/E

I believe u can get a used city & vios for 04-05 model approx 50-55k range, but try negotiate to less than 50k and u get a good bargain.

The facelifted city vtec is okay for 59k but as always, try bargain lower, say 56k? smile.gif

Hey guys. Any guidance to buy a used city? Well I'd been traveled to Malacca to see the car as it is sold by my friend's dad. Test drive the car and so far is OK, not sure a very tiny knocking is normal for a 2004 city. The engine and gearbox wise is OK. 4 new Dunlop tyres. However it seems like the car price is still stick with 52K with many tiny 'scars' at the outlook, which make it seems like bit over used.
Well, I will go to see more this coming weekend and KL car price is much lower. (Scare of those car which has 'rendam' during flood).
Was informed 2004 below 51K and 2005 city with around 55K.
Any guidance or advise here? My budget will be around 50K +/- 3000.  smile.gif

*
52K is still okay but if can, nego it to 50k and u get a good deal. Most importantly, check the car for service record to see if its properly maintained by the previous owner and if it is serviced by authorized honda workshops. If there is no service record, avoid that car at best, u never know what happened to that car.

I think by end of yr the best u can get is approx 1-2k discount for the city while for vios, u can get lots of promotions n discounts for end of yr models.

If so, i recommend u to get the forte. It is a very well spec car for the price of the vios and its a good looking car. Test drive it and see if u like it. The only gripe is Naza poor 2 yr warranty and poor aftersales service, but there a growth num of KIA specialized workshops in Mysia, so nothing to worry about here. smile.gif

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used car with sporty look for daily usage.

This is my detail:

Brand: Any brand with sporty look. Kind of addicted to round edge design like FTO, Hyundai Coupe
Budget : < 40k
New/Used/Unreg : Used
Specs : Any
Transmission : preferably AT, but MT is fine
Type : Sport
Remarks : Looking for something that is easy to maintain (e.g. easy to get part, part price is reasonable)

Many thanks,
*
40k will not get u sports cars unless if u go for a older celica which u wont able to obtain loan for that. However, u can opt for sporty cars like the used satria or satria neo. I believe u can get less than 40k for the used satria neo, while the older satria is much cheaper, perhaps below than 30k. With the money saved with the older satria u can have some money to mod the performance.

That still okay, although i prefer to make it 55k. That must be the facelifted version i believe.

6. Type : 4 seater.
7. Remarks : I would mostly use the car during the weekend cause i ride my bike to work. i am unmarried. planning to buy a house in 3 years' time.

Note:

i have been closely following Kia Forte since its introduction and tbh i am really impressed. however a lot of my pals have been telling me against buying it. while in the US and Singapore it has been a success story.

is this car really worth buying considering the value it offers with the amount of money spent. i earn around 2.5k after epf deduction. fyi, this is my first car and this is also the first time i want to commit to a loan. i dont want to burden myself in the future. do you guys think that paying one third of my salary every month for car installment is a wise decision. and that excludes fuel, maintenance etc. i have not experienced it before how the spending is like after having a car so i need your advice very badly.

if you think my budget is over my ability, please advise on what is the best car for me. though i dream of having a forte.

i thank you guys in advance for your advice.
*
Hmmm unless if u keeping the car for long actually the kia forte is worth buying. I mean keep it long till 7 years and more so u wont lose alot in depreciation.

With ur such pay, i think u can allocate 700-800 per month for car installment at max, but seeing u gonna invest for a house in the future, and if u dont have much downpayment, then consider alternatives like a new persona or a used vios/city for less than 60k.

I would personally advice to go for loan not more than 7 years and not more than 800 per month for ur case.

i plan to pay 850 at max if i buy a forte, so i will pay the down payment as necessary. however i am seeking other options as well. the new toyota vios does not impress me with the exterior design already, so i am off by it. persona, while i opted for it before, until the emergence of forte end of last month. really a headache to think about it every day whether forte is the one for me. i am afraid it will affect my financial plan. thats why i need all your inputs so that i dont end up burdening myself.

thank you in advance.

Unless if u have downpayment of say, RM40k then u can go for the forte. Otherwise, save the money and go for the persona. Its not bad for ur money.

1. Brand : Proton WAJA 1.6X/1.8X Premium OR FORD LYNX RS 2.0i(A) Sunroof
2. Budget : 50K
3. New/Used/Unreg : used
4. Specs : Full Spec
5. Transmission : Auto
6. Type :  Sporty handling automatic sedan.
7. Remarks : I am single at the moment.  Will sell off my Ford Telstar 1998/99 V6 body 2.0i4 Ghia for RM13,800 hopefully.

Note: If I get WAJA 1.6X Premium 4G18 Mitsubishi engine, I'll leave it STOCK coz the standard engine is ECONOMICAL AND TOUGH. Budget, below RM30k.  BUT If I get a Waja 1.8X, plan to use till engine KO then Changed to Mitsubishi MIVEC MD engine with INVECS-II Sports mode (tiptronic).  I planned to set RM23k budget for the car and RM12k for transplant.  ORIGINAL IDEA is Mitsubishi FTO MIVEC 6A12 engine but heard JPJ no longer approve 2.0L conversion for Waja.  Preferably PREMIUM SPEC (ie. ABS, Airbag, Leather) in Met Dark Grey (premium colour) OR BLACK (ASEAN / OIC edition).

ON THE OTHER HAND, If I get a Ford Lynx RS 2.0i(A) Red or White, I'll leave it STOCK. Maybe worse case scenario, K&N drop in filter, EBC Brake hose+Bendix Metalking, ATF Cooler that's all... For the Lynx RS, my budget is BELOW RM50k.  Pref Red or white with below 120000km, accident free.  NICE NO and Service record would be a BONUS.

Thanks for reading...  Pls help me to find...

Ehh avoid the 1.8 waja if can else u will land urself with lots of problems. Speaking about transplants to the waja, i think the mivec is good enough but some even installed with the awesome 4G63 from the evo 4-5. But remember there wont be half cuts by 2011 and next yr halfcuts will be very very costly.

Hmm i think its all up to ur initiate to find ur desired car, keep hunting motortrader.com.my and u will find ur ride eventually. Good luck.

1. Brand : MyVi
2. Budget : +-35k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : Full/SE
5. Transmission : Auto
6. Type : Any
7. Remarks : Main concern is safety and fuel consumption.

Also would like general opinion if it is a good idea to wait until next year to buy? Will there be any price difference for the cars on the 2nd hand market?

Thanks!
*
Well depending when the car is registered, but bear in mind if a car is heavily demand in used market, years of difference wont make much difference. However never hurt to purchase ur used car by 1st week of Jan.

Please everyone give suggetion which car (ALZA Premiun or PERSONA SE) is best to buy?

Alza:
laugh.gif
1. Small Family car
2. Good Fuel consumption in city drive.
3. Spacious
4. Reputable engine (but no VVT-i)

mad.gif
-1. Some people claim under power when carrie more than 4 adault.
-2. Engine will increase Fuel consumption drasticly if heavy load carried.
-3. Local car common problem.

Persona:
laugh.gif
1. Lite Sedan
2. Good power in long distance
3. Big luggage box.
4. Nice handling and conering.

mad.gif
-1. Some people said 1.6l car will not get cheap petrol next year may onwards.
-2. Heavy weight (~300kg belive or not) due to longer body than Alza (not noticeble untill matching the spec).
-3. local car common problem.

Thank You rclxms.gif

Hi guys,

want to get some opinion from you especially those who purchase 2nd hand vios. i went to a used car dealer today and the SA offer me the final price for G spec vios (Jan 2008) for RM68,000. Mileage about 35,000km. Do u think it's a good offer? If i buy it..mean that i will only have 1 year manufacturer warranty for that car. Compare to J spec..which I may buy the new one...I can still get 3 years warranty... So which one should I go for? The car has good interior & exterior with full service records from UMW. What should I check before buying a 2nd hand car?

another question:

i) the SA charge RM1k ++ for the name change & agreement. Is this normal?
ii) the insurance cover usually based on our loan amount or the car value from the bank? I was thinking to cover it based on the bank loan amount.

Hope can get some input from vios owner before making my decision.

Thanks guys!  notworthy.gif

1k for name change and agreement is abit steep, u may want to becareful on that one. The insurance cover will cover based on ur car value on that year.

Overall the pricing is good, but with that very steep SA charge its kinda dogy deal, u might want to reconsider other SA or other showrooms. wink.gif

Hi guys need some advise here, as now end of year 2009, advisable to purchase new car now ? or wait until early of 2010 just buy ? because heard some ppl said if buy year 2009 production car on year 2010, can get more discount. is it true?

And does this "trend" apply to 2nd hand car as well?
*
Well its all depending if u want stock from 2009 or 2010. Its true that u will get more discounts or freebies if u get cars from 2009 stock in 2010 should there are avail units.

It wont be matter if u keeping ur car for very long, unless if u looking for a short term car.

QUOTE(Radical54 @ Dec 22 2009, 06:13 PM)
Hey guys, I am planning to get a car very soon.
Here is what i am looking for:

Brand: Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Ford (or any good brand) - ( not proton or perodua)
Budget: Less than RM40,000
Used Car
Auto
Sedan/4 seater
cc: 1.6 - 1.8
year: Preferably no older than 2000
I am a student right now, I will be using this car for about 5 years. Of course, I want a car with cheap maintainence and easy availability of parts. Spacious car is prefered.

I have 2 cars in mind right now, Nissan Sentra 1.6 (A) 2001 and Ford Lynx 1.6 (A) 2001. Don't know much about these two cars, anyone with any experience with these cars, please share your opinion on them.

One more thing, when is the best time to buy a used car, by this year or should I wait for 2010 to come? I will need the car before february.
Thanks in advance for any response  biggrin.gif

The nissan sentra 2001 is just nice within ur budget. I bet its cheap to maintain and reliable as well, just that dont expect the FC to be as good as vios/city.

Speaking about if getting a car in 2010, it will not make any difference as ur used car will value depending when that car is registered. Well it is now 2 weeks away from 2010 so why not just wait and see?

Good day everybody,

Got some doubts, I've booked for a new car & the car should be ready to collect by end of Jan 2010.
My bank loan just approved & bank told me that I'm free to sign loan agreement anytime.

So, Shall I sign loan agreement right now or later? or when car ready to collect?

Regarding the downpayment, SA told me can pay upon arrival of the car.    icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif  icon_question.gif

Of coz u need to sign ur loan agreement ASAP before u get ur car. Without ur loan application signature and ur downpayment there is no way u gonna get ur car. wink.gif

1. Brand : Any
2. Budget : 15k for 2nd hand car, 1st hand car should be able to fork out 500-600 per month
4. Specs : Standard spec
5. Transmission : manual
6. NA or FI :  NA
7. Type : 4 seater
8. Remarks : Student looking for a car, doesnt really need luggage space, but it doesnt mean i only conside those hatchback cars. Prefer fuel efficient car, doesnt really need for speed.

Currently considering kelisa for used car, but the price is over 20k mostly and i am not really confident in 2nd hand car, but will listen to any advice on this matter. For 1st hand, i am considering viva or saga blm. By the way, can i know what is the currently interest rate? Roughly la.. don need accurate. Thanks!
*
15k wont get u much good used cars unless if u dont mind opting for used old saga, iswara or wira. Seeing u willing to fork 500-600 per month and for say 5-7 years loan u can opt for a new saga or viva. U looking for fuel efficiency hence the new viva is feasible choice here.

Btw for that price of a new viva why not go for a used kelisa? U can get for 20-30k, cheaper than the viva and economical as well.
