1. Brand : Anything except cars that are expansive to maintain
2. Budget : around 25 to 30K
3. New/Used/Unreg : used
4. Specs : any
5. Transmission : auto
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : -
8. Remarks :

I need to travel around 2000km a month, i need something that has good FC, moderately comfortable, cheap to maintain, and not so old maybe 2005 and above model

WHich would be the best i can get for my budget... thanks
*
That kinda hard, i think u need to revise either ur car age to 2000 or increase ur budget.

U need a saloon around 1.5cc to 1.6cc range. If u stick with ur budget, consider the waja from 2002-2004 model.

QUOTE(diehardfans @ Feb 21 2010, 02:40 PM)
1. Brand=any
2. Budget= 10k-15k
3. New/Used/Unreg= used
4. Specs=any
5. Transmission=Automatic,
6. NA or FI = NA?
7. Type=any
8. Remarks = i am tall but skinny, recommend not high maintainence

how much fee for change name or the procedure for change name.

10-15k wont get u much choices unless if u go for old 15-20yr old japanese saloons like corolla AE100 or Honda civic EJ or 10yr++ proton wiras or iswara.

Hello hello, first post and what luck to find this topic!!!!!

1. Brand:Ford Focus (hatch)/Mondeo or Mazda 3 (sedan)/6...... or the Ford Focus RS!!!!!!!!!!!  tongue.gif

2. Budget: 100000 - 140000

3. New or used: new but open to used units if maintained in good condition.

4. Features: Good at cornering and good acceleration(especially at green lights) and still fuel effiecient

5. Transmission:Either also can; if the auto is better than manual then would prefer it. Also curious if can install aftermarket dual clutch.

6. NA or FI ?: Not sure if FI is available for these but would love to know what FI experience is like

7. Tyres: Not sure what to fill in here.....how woud run-flats affect the vehicle's performance and maintenance?

8. Remarks:What should the maintenance costs be like? Which has better cabin quality?
*
Ford Focus RS? Not a chance in Mysia. shakehead.gif

But since u like handling cars, i only can think the mazda 3 2.0 or the ford focus 2.0 hatchback which fits rightly to ur budget. U better test drove both these cars to decide which is the best as i think they r more or less the same in terms of performance or FC, but i bet they r better ride n handling cars than the usual civic, corolla or camry.

QUOTE(ajay67 @ Feb 21 2010, 06:05 PM)
i don't mind at all. there won't be loan involved. my only concern with >10yo car is FC. is it gonna be ok? i still think kelisa is the safer option in terms of FC & maintenance cost, am i right to say this?
*
Their FC wont be as good as they r new. So i suggest to get manual if u insist of good FC n mileage. The kelisa is the safest choice, but well, all depending to ur requirement. I prefer an older japanese saloon than the kelisa anytime.

QUOTE(brucesss @ Feb 21 2010, 07:19 PM)

1. Brand - Toyota and Mazda
2. Budget - 150k
3. New/Used/Unreg- preferably unregistered/new
4. Specs. full spec
5. Transmission. some form of manual transmission mix with auto e.g. paddle shifters or tiptronic, but manual is welcomed
6. NA or FI - preferably FI, NA is welcomed
7. Type. - preferably sedan but 2 seater and coupe is welcomed.
8. Remarks. - Nice to look at, nice to drive and can at least go really really fast.
*
I would pick the RX8 if u looking for a coupe but if sedan is ur asking, the mazda 3 2.0 is ur choice. Looks nice n sporty, not to mention its shiftronic n fun to drive.

QUOTE(Aurora Boreali @ Feb 22 2010, 01:21 PM)
Ok, I'm looking to buy a car in several months, so I'm starting to do some research.

I have 3 type of cars in mind:
1. Peroduo Kelisa (A) Used. 2005-06. Scouted price: around RM 25k.
2. Honda City i-DSi (A) Used. 2004. Scouted price: around RM 48k.
3. Perodua Myvi (A) Brand New. Price: I heard it's around 48k?

The reason why I shortlisted the Kelisa, it would be because of the affordability. I don't have to burdened myself with huge car loan and can pay it off faster. I would probably use this car for a shorter term, maybe 5 years before buying a better car.

However, I'm also thinking of getting a more reliable car for longer use, perhaps up to 10 years before I consider changing to a better car.
I'm considering a brand new Perodua Myvi or a used Japanese car (Honda or Toyota) for this reason. I'm torn between a brand new car (Myvi comes into mind. I don't think I want a Proton) with my 50k max budget, or a used Japanese Car (Honda City comes into mind).
So what should I go for if I want decide to pay more? Brand new Myvi or used City? The downside of this is the 23-25k price difference compared to used Kelisa. This means bigger car loan and longer payment period. It can be quite a burden.

So, can anyone give me any advice? In addition to that:
i) How is the maintenance like for these 3 cars? Which one would be low maintenance and cost me less generally, and in the long run?
ii) I skimmed through this thread and read about the supposed "Honda gearbox problem". What is this? Does it affect 2004 City?
iii) How do I check the engine when buying a used car? I mean, I'm really a noob when it comes to car stuff.
iv) Any other suggestion for a max 50k budget to buy a reliable car that can serve me well for 10 years at least?

Additional info: I will probably travel a lot from house to work within Klang Valley area.

I'd appreciate it if my questions are answered!
*
I think i wanna keep it simple. Stick with the kelisa. Once u earn better than upgrade ur car to a better one.

Hello Guys, was in dilemma here so thought of asking you guys for some opinion. Thanks

1. Brand : (New) Proton / (Used) Honda or Toyota?
2. Budget : 60k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Doesn't matters.
4. Specs : Mid to Full
5. Transmission : Automatic
6. NA or FI :  N.A. would be fine.
7. Type : Subcompacts.
8. Remarks : Not a big fan of hatchbacks,k-cars. which is why perodua is out of question for me.i am currently eyeing either Saga SE or a M-line Persona.but would like to consider other options like used imports.any suggestions?
*
If u want a new car, take the new Hi line persona. More worthy to buy, but wait for few months more for the facelift to be launched.

Used car wise, u can consider the nissan sentra from 2002-2004 model, i believe its achieveable within less than 60k. Otherwise if good FC is priority, vios n city will be ur pick.

Apologies for late reply. As usual, replies based on ur criteria from the forms as per page 1 smile.gif

QUOTE(jing_kohkoh @ Feb 26 2010, 01:02 AM)
would consider buying 2nd car required for job.
Currently own a MYVI. Need a sedan for bigger bootspace.
Can afford Rm600-Rm700 per month, excluding maintenance
1. New Persona Auto 1.6 M
2. 2nd hand sentra 1.6 2007 above
3. 2nd hand city idsi/vtec 2006 above
4. 2nd hand waja 2005 mits engine
5. 2nd hand vios 2006 above

which will be better in terms of good financial planning.
*
Why not sell off ur myvi n go for the new persona? The sedan might as well suits u for work n normal driving, moreover with good 2nd hand resale value frm the myvi, u can easily afford the new persona.

QUOTE(kopio99 @ Feb 26 2010, 03:39 AM)

Well its not a fuel saving car, but looks like the used proton satria neo 1.6 manual fits ur bill here.

QUOTE(ahnien @ Feb 26 2010, 02:58 PM)
i went thru some of the "buying a 2nd hand car links" buy yet i still can really make a decision.

my dilemma is that i'm not to sure whether to get a 2nd hand or new one. which model as well. though i roughly had a brief sketch in my mind.

1. Brand : Proton Perodua Toyota Honda (Gen2, Persona, BLM, Vios, City)

2. Budget : 50 - Max 70k (though 2nd hand proton/perodua onli cost bout 25 - 30k+). i know i can go even higher up to 90k for the new city. but dont feel like getting myself working for banks for 9years. i'l jus stick with practicality & afford-ability

2a. monthly Budget : Can afford upto a maximum RM600 a month on installments.

3. New/Used/Unreg : New for Proton & perodua, Used for Toyota & honda

4. Specs : chin chai. 1.5 or 1.6 oso can la, not for racing = =". as long as its fuel efficient. not too basic line la. i wont mind high line if budget is met

5. Transmission : driving in KL. so logically, its auto. but i wont mind manual

6. NA or FI :  hmm.gif

7. Type :  icon_question.gif

8. Remarks : basically, i'm looking for a dependable and fuel efficiency car. i work for a bank, and always go out meeting up customers all the time around klang valley.
actually i dont mind 2nd hand for gen2 or persona or myvi.
my question is. HOW DEPENDABLE IS 2nd hand local manufactured cars??
*
The quality of 2nd hand locally made cars are very subjective, at times depending on luck too. Take Perodua if u want a safer choice. I would say u stick with 60k car such as the new persona, new myvi or used city/vios. Take ur pick here.

I not sure what ur priority, FC? Resale value?

Well just determine how long u wanna use ur car, if its 5yr or less, take the city, n if 7-9 years or more, take the forte. As simple as that. Btw test drive both these cars n see which one u like most. For me the forte has the best spec n value here.

Well should be okay with the persona. Manufacturer's 5 year warranty should cover it well.

As long u get manual, it should be better FC than the auto equipvalient. However those cars are old hence their FC will not be as good as when they r new.

Why not consider the toyota corolla SEG? Should meet all yr requirements.

1. Brand : New Saga SE or 14 yr old Honda Civic

3. New/Used/Unreg : Undecided
4. Specs : Any
5. Type : Any

I think u better off with a new car, so the saga SE is ur choice. If FC n resale value still a priority, the new peordua viva can be considered.

Option:1
1. Brand. = Honda civic hatchback
2. Budget.
3. New/Used/Unreg. = Used
4. Specs. = Yr96 Vti-r B16a2
5. Transmission. manual
6. NA or FI ? = nA
7. Type. = hatch
8. Remarks. = 17x,xxx kms , clean.

Option:2
1. Brand. = Mitsubishi fto
2. Budget.
3. New/Used/Unreg. = used
4. Specs. = Yr95 GPX 6a12 mivec
5. Transmission. = manual
6. NA or FI ? = nA
7. Type. = coupe
8. Remarks. = 16x,xxx kms , roof got rust spots.

___

Things to consider:
I'm in ozzie so they'r both same price range,
but fto needs touchup on exterior/paint job, and fto parts very hard to find/expensive.
labour cost very expensive here.

i like the fto looks & 200hp on 1.3t kerb weight.
but on long run, civic 1.6l 4cyl. cheaper to maintain, good on fuel, cheaper on registration, cheaper on insurance (vs. fto's 2.0l v6 import)
160hp on 1.1t kerb weight, not too bad also.

which one should i go for? or, which one will you get? and why? thnx.
*
How long u will be in Australia? If u come for study or work for few years but coming back to Mysia, take the honda civic. I dont think u wanna spend more for a car when u know u wont be in overseas for long.

Hello,
Currently I drive kelisa 850 manual.. love the fuel efficiency part (20km/l)..
thinking of changing to bigger cc car, not necessarily sedan.. but my main and top priority is the fuel efficiency and decent acceleration..nothing else matter i don't mind the looks..

currently my choice is Smart forfour 1.5 AMT.. i heard from a forumer nicknamed acbc the car has a very good fuel consumption and acceleration and may fit my preferences.. please advise..
my budget would be 500-600 per month..my kelisa has no outstanding loan.
*
The smart forfour. Yup my fren has one and indeed its a very economical car, perhaps the best in class. But the maintainence is not cheap as it is done by mercedes SC. U can opt for 60k or below for a used unit here.

But with ur 500-600 per month for loan u may need to take max 9 years, provided if ur kelisa can sell for 15k. 9 years loan for a used car is not advisble.

Another worthy alternative is the honda jazz, i think the 2004-2005 idsi model can be achieved within 50k++.

Currently,I'm interested in honda city and naza forte....So I wanna ask you all which 1 is better deal??

I want a car which is fuel efficiency cuz my job required me to travel a lot.......

Ask some of my frens and coll, some of them said city got resell value and better quality while others said forte design nice and equipped with modest technology.

I know it's still early for me to think la but just wanna do a general survey first b4 go into in depth.....

I dont want later i buy liao regret~~~~~ sad.gif  sad.gif

I would want to pick the naza forte for that. Dont border for resale value unless if u plan to change car within 5 years.

QUOTE(Vincent Pang @ Mar 6 2010, 02:48 PM)
is there a general guide on how much we should be spending for the monthly repayment loan for car ? e.g. 20%-30% of salary ?
*
Good to ask that.

The minimal requirement will be 1/3 of ur net salary. The salary should be at best fixed basic salary n minus EPF/SOSCO in my opinion.

But i would advise to go minimal 1/4 of ur net salary instead. Cause u never know expetiture for ur car ownership might raise, ie car tolls, petrol or emergency repairs.

QUOTE(alcatrez @ Mar 6 2010, 04:44 PM)
Currently considering these

1. Brand : Proton Putra Manual 1.8, Mazda 2 1.5 and Toyota Vios 1.5
2. Budget : Maximum Rm 750 per month
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used / New
4. Specs : 1.5 and above
5. Transmission : Prefer manual
6. NA or Turbocharged : NA
7. Type : Any
8. Remarks : Want a fun car. Good handling for high way. Good FC (for a 1.5-1.8). Cheap spare parts. Services.
*
750 per month and with even max 9 yr loans with minimum downpayment of 10% of car price, its quite determine which one u can go to. wink.gif

If ur budget is below 50k n dont wanna take a long loan, why not settle for a used waja manual? Can be obtained at 20-35k around there.

Details:
1. Brand: BMW e36  (92)
2. Budget: 30k
3. Used
4. Transmission. manual

Questions:
i) Worth to buy for weekend use?
ii) For 1992 car, high maintenance?
iii) High fuel consumption?
iv) Longest period of loan that I can apply for?

Hope anyone can give me some comments. >_<  Thx
*
U wont able to obtain loan coz its a 18 yr old car. I may suggest to fork at least 40k, presumely 30k++ to buy the car and the remaining for wear n tear parts.

Overall, i dont think its worth to buy for weekend use.

Anyone can offer me a used car loan here? What's the loan rate like? PM me please

If parts n servicing is a priority, i take the BMW. Interest loan may be up to 4%++ as Bank negara has raised the BLR.

2.fuel comsumption
3.spare easy to get or not?

and also i'm kinda new to car driving...pls suggest me
thanxx alot in advance...

I have one word of advise, avoid. the fait punto is a nightmare to maintain esp since its more than 10 yrs old. U still a student hence pls go for reliable and economical rides instead like viva, myvi or saga.

Avoid at all cost.

I would pick the city if ur budget allows too. But for 30k n less u can easily opt for a used waja, n go for the pre campro ones. Just becareful when finding a good used unit.

Hi Guys,
Can give some suggestion?

1. Brand : Toyota/Continental
2. Budget : 100k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : Dont mind
5. Transmission : Automatic
6. NA or FI : NA
7. Type : Sedan
8. Remarks : I am looking for Camry, but with 100k, dont think I can afford the current version. Any intro for this range? Dont want Forte, City, Vios btw smile.gif
*
U can opt for a used camry from 05 model n below. A 04 model 2.4cc cost around 80-85k range which suits ur budget.

Also considered the honda accord from 04-06 model (not the current one). I bet u can look below 100k as well.

hi guys!
My family is thinking for a second car,
preferably 2nd hand SUV budget around 50k,
and is Ford Escape a good selection?

this is the requirement

1. Brand : Anything
2. Budget :50k
3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs :
5. Transmission : Prefereblly Manual, Auto is also considered
6. NA or FI :
7. Type : SUV
8. Remarks :
*
It is a good SUV but if possible avoid the 2.0, underpowered as confirmed by one road tester i read in autocar asean. Considered the 2.3 but u may need to top up 10k more.

If possible, why not the honda CRV. the 2000 model is fetchable at below 50k smile.gif

Torn between 3 cars. All second hand, need second opinions from u guys here.

1. Honda Civic 1.8, 2006 RM89k
2. Toyota Altis 1.6e, 2008 RM86k
3. Mazda 3 1.6 sedan, 2009 RM85k or Mazda 3 1.6 sedan, 2007 RM78k.

BTW,why the big difference between both M3?
And may i know, which bank offering the best second hand interest rate at the moment?
THANK YOU all in advance for the opinions.
*
That only the price difference. Car value depreciate when yrs goes by.

If the 2009 M3 is possible by 85k, and checked n confirmed the car was serviced n under warranty by bermaz, then i take that. The used honda civic was bladdy overpriced and not worth it despite it is the best car among the 3.

3. New/Used/Unreg : Used
4. Specs : none specifics
5. Transmission : Automatic
6. NA or FI : NA with Fuel Injection
7. Type : Sedan
8. Remarks : I have an excess of RM1.5k a month for installment

I dunno which model to take. anyone drove a peugeot 407 before? is it any good with any problems?
maintenance high? what about the parts? last i heard few years back for parts to come in, it takes about 3 months or so, does this still happen?

As for BMW, i am looking for the year 2000 to 2001 model. some people still selling for RM69k. is it still possible to look for about 65k and below? i heard their common issue is their gearbox. is it true? coz as far as i know the gearbox could cost about 4k >.< Oh, I would prefer either white or silver color... HID light is a value add tongue.gif

i'm kinda torn in between these 2 cars as i think it's still within my budget. can anyone help suggest?
*
R u sure u able to obtain both these cars with 40k? U willing to top up? I need to know ur exceed budget (inclduing ur car trade in value) so i can est how much u willing to spend.

Used perodua is much better than a used proton for sure. Btw i gave u my answer on that post as well. Why not considered a used corolla from yr 2000?

QUOTE(calvinteh @ Apr 15 2010, 01:57 PM)
see my car can probably sell like 18-20k i'm willing to top up with cash till maybe 4-5k

then loaning for 45k should bring me up my budget to 65-70k no?
coz my budget for either these 2 cars are about max of 70k...
*
Well i found one at motortrader, 2005 model sells at 75k. I think u may need to opt for 2004 models which will be hard to find. 70K will also get u a older 3 series, frm year 2000 n below.

For that, i suggest to opt up more and be prepare to spend 100k to get a good used continential car.

yea thought about it too. but i wanna buy 100k car, i might as well opt for mitsubishi lancer GT2.0 or even honda civic modulo...at least i get a bigger car tongue.gif
but true la 308 has turbo...but thing is, its unpractical to have a car which drinks petrol like a horse haha
*
I was reffering to 407.

Btw modern turbocharging works well with modern engines. The turbocharged 308 is a low boost one, not like the ones u see in evo engines. It is done so that u can have a power frm the 1.8-2.0cc car when u have a 1.6 engine, and best of all u can obtain the FC of a 1.6cc car. Nowdays turbocharging is very popular among european car markers.
