rm3.5k... only ve U80Vg for Asus... either T6500 model (rm3199) or P8700 model (rm3599)...

spec wise it's not as yummy as S42... laugh.gif comes with HD4570 DDR2 for GPU, performance is worse than Studio 15 even... but the good thing abt U80Vg is the light chasis (2.1kg with battery, light considering it's a non-CULV 14") and long battery life (users report abt 5hrs, 1 more hr compared to S42 using GMA)...

i rather get Dell SXPS 16 or BenQ S57...

SXPS16 has Full HD monitor, while S57 has BD drive for less than rm4k...

or even, Dell Studio 15 if u want BD drive AND Full HD monitor at the same time...

well, i think rm1k or even rm1.5k is possible as well, rm800 is juz too low, considering a Studio 15 is abt rm2.7k...

as a reference, i sold my 1.5yr old BenQ S41 (still with 1.5yr warranty, C2D T7100, 8600M GS, 4GB RAM) for SG$900 abt 5 mths ago...

well, Studio 15 is light for a 15"... iirc approx. 2.5kg with battery... most other 15" and 16" in the market weights 3kg...

anything lighter would be 14"...

should be 6-cells and DDR2 800MHz...

but for the RAM, even 533MHz is also enough, so dun think too much abt it... nod.gif

I see all the new laptops are installed with the new Window 7 Home OS.

Some of them got special offer to upgrade the OS to professional and ultimate window 7...

Can somebody tell me should we upgrade the OS to professional or ultimate and what the advantage in upgrading the OS.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick feedback notworthy.gif
Let me check up reviews for all models listed above and see if any suit my needs.

Anyway for SXPS16 and K40AB, I don't think they belong to slim and light category? Correct me if I'm wrong. SXPS16 at 2.3kg++ while K40KB is around 2kg if my memory serve me right.

Sorry I did not state earlier that I'm looking for slim and light laptop below 2kg weight. Oh ya, prefer with Win7 preinstalled or Win7 upgrade options.

I kinda like Asus UL30A and Acer Timeline but their graphic capabilities are not that good...

Thanks again smile.gif

want a balance between weight and performance can consider Asus U80V (14", 2.1kg, HD4570, rm3199 for T6500, rm3599 for P8700) or Dell SXPS13 (13", weight i think abt 2kg also, P8600 with G 210M, rm4149)

personally i quite like U80V... users report abt 5hrs of battery life, exceptionally light for a 14", and the back-lit keyboard is pretty cool too... laugh.gif

Hi guys! I'm in a bit of a dilemma. :-P I've been lappie hunting for awhile and i've narrowed it down to 3 possibilities based on looks/specs/budget. It's either dell studio 15, benq s42, or the acer timeline series. Problem is i wonder if DDR3 RAM is an issue as i read that it's much better than DDR2 and not backward compatible. Plus the acer line is light with good battery life! However, i've heard some unkind stuff about acer. Hence the other alternatives. I also know dell doesn't include a carrying case and i'd really like the freebies given by normal distributers eg. Mouse, cooler pad etc. So that's the bad point bout buying online. Oh btw i'm getting it come christmas time too where i might be shopping in singapore. Advisable to get there? Sorry for the wall of text. I'm using my mobile to type. Thanks!

honestly speaking, it boils down to:

warranty - Dell Studio 15
performance - BenQ S42
battery life - Acer Timeline

so wat do u want???

as for DDR3, it offeres no significant performance gain (except for working at lower voltage, thus probably give u a few mins more batt life), while costing abt 50% more than DDR2...

ah well, but Nvidia chipset is notorious for being hot afterall...

i guess even AMD chipset is better in terms of heat management... have seen so many 12" laptops with AMD platform...

well, my S41 came with an original BenQ carrying bag... laugh.gif

as for buying in Singapore or not, i think it depends on the model... eg Asus K40Ab is really cheap in MY, but not so in SG...

as a S'porean, i think MY seems to have better deal for many models... so do ur comparison before deciding...

15" but not big and heavy... sweat.gif

well, if photo processing is wat u re going to do most of the time, yes, a Studio 15 with i7 would be a better choice in the long run...

yes thanks guys. that's also an option as RAM is indeed madly expensive. as it is, with the config that i want, the sxps16 will be ard RM5400+ even with 4Gb RAM and core i7.

my worry about the added weight is that the ard 0.5 kg heavier than the s15 (and will probably take up a bit more space too).

btw does asus have an sxps16 equivalent?
*
that would be Asus N51Vn...

P8800, GT 240M...
