ya.. you can clean reformat using the DVD provided by Dell, jz like vista the step, bit different only, but i think you can handle that...

What I mean is, not reformatting using the DVD, but through another means, hence the phrase "before entering the Dell DVD"

Yeah but SXPS 16 has both so why not?Except for the BD drive that is or not i don't really see why the S57 should be favoured over the 1640? sweat.gif

The Windows 7 upgrade disk is actually contains the full Windows 7 setup. So yes, you can reformat the PC however you want and still install Windows 7 as long as your BIOS is intact and you can boot from the Windows 7 DVD.

Guys, I connect my studio xps 16 with an external 22inch samsung LCD monitor but it only allows max reso of 1280x1024 where as the monitor should be at 1680.. This ATI 4670 gc does not support 1680 reso? only 1280 and 1920? How to solve this prob? smile.gif

so it means the upgrade disc does not need to verify your previous version of windows?

Yea, the upgrade disk does not verify against previous version. You will get a new license key with the upgrade disk. Just key in that when they ask you during installation.

according to ur problem... i already check my display setting, find out that it only support 800X600, 1024X768, 1280X720, 1280X1024 and 1920X1080. the closest to ur external LCD monitor is 1280X1024 so it display in that resolution. i'm not sure GC or laptop limit the resolution supported...

I've tried both extend mode or duplicate mode.. The max it can go for my lcd monitor is only 1280 where as its maximum is 1680. At 1280, the display is all fuzzy, not clear and v disturbing to the eye.. I tink its the GC problem, am i supposed to install a overclocking driver so tat i have the 1680 display option?

Hey guys, i jz back home and did a "Upgrade" to windows 7 ... Lazy to clean install...
My stuff is just too much..
Anyway it run very smooth... as i use RC version b4 on my desktop..
I'm havin problem with the sound... but now solve... not sure is temporary or not..
I didn't know whats happen, i was plug in my headphone and start test music, sound, game,.. whatever it is.. then after i satisfied with it.. I unplug my headphone, but no sound coming out from the laptop speaker...
I can see the sound visualization still movin.. then i plug my headphone again.. the sound did come out from headphone...
Dunno whats wrong with it.. after restart many time.. and enable/disable sound device.. still the same...
Thus, i search the web, and i found some ppl facing the same problem..
and the solution is,
CODE
Solution not working***
1. Play any music you like
2. Go to Playback device, right click the default speaker, click Configure speaker.
3. choose Quadraphonic or 5.1 Surround, then click Test.. (click yes, when prompt that other application is using the device)
4. choose back Stereo, and Test again..
5. Unplug headphone...

Finally, the sound back to laptop speaker...
I'm not sure this is permanent solution or temporary solution...

My laptop 1920 x 1080, I use home 20" LCD monitor that support max 1360 x 768 and it works...
I use the normal VGA cable to connect my LCD 20" Monitor...
After connect the VGA cable, and i press the "Laptop/Projector" or "WIN+P" button, set to "Duplicate" mode, it display both 1360 x 768..
I did not use "Extends" mode.. so i guess jz set to "Projector" for the ease of my eyes.
What type of cable u use for the connection?? VGA or HDMI or DisplayPort??
Have u try "Change the screen resolution" after connect to your LCD?
U might wan to try, Connect the LCD with your laptop 1st, then restart your laptop while LCD is still connected to laptop...
Hope this help..
