Hey my d40 got a little prob... dunno is shutter problem or not. It happens very rare but sometimes will happen. When i shoot a lot of photos continuously then after awhile after autofocus already, i press the shutter button but it didn't capture anything. Then after a few seconds i try again it become normal. But it will reoccur later.

Is it shutter problem? My SC is only 10k. age of my D40 is 1 year and 2 months. It rarely happens but I'm afraid it will reoccur next time.

Oh.. I had the same problem like you on my d40 before... I also don't know why that occurs.. but that time was probably my lens and body contact wasn't good... put to single shot mode, and everything should be fine.

i am using single shot mode... Not burst mode/continuous mode. Maybe my lens contact not good already, becuz sometimes when i take my d40 out of the bag it can't AF at all, need to remount the lens. Haiz... Plastic mount sucks man..

it depend on the camera models,

avoid using maximum shutter speed eg: 1/4000 to prolong shutter lifetime

For canon, they usually charge u around rm300-400

This came from my D200 body..
300k++ and still counting.. So no worries. Just keep shooting and ignore those shutter count until when u need to replace it (when the time comes).. usually the owner of the camera will "break" 1st before the body (u wud sell the body 1st before knowing that it can serve u well over years to come..) biggrin.gif

cos the lower the shutter count means lesser use. surely it's second hand, but if all the second hand falls in the same price range, generally ppl will look for the newest unit.

some of my friend's camera, especially lower end like Nikon D40, shutter break down at 20k... so it's very hard to say.

wahhh 2009 topic revived... hahaha.

today's camera is rated 100k min even for entry.

but even if ur unit pass 1million shutter and breakdown within warranty period, they will still change for u for free, as there state no shutter count warranty in the warranty term and condition.

if yours really breakdown right after the warranty period (or u brought 2nd hand) its fairly cheap (under rm400) for the 1/4000 shutter unit, and around rm600 for 1/8000 APS-C Shutter unit and around rm800 for FF shutter unit. additional service charges may apply because when u send ur unit in, the service center usually CHECK the whole body rather then just change the shutter.

But do take note, because most new sensor design with native iso200, hence shutter used in daylight usually 1 stop higher. the Mirror plastic braket will BREAK even before u reach 100k shutter. and its cheap to replace it too.

my A300 shutter now is 2 years, 70k and counting
