not excately. it's more like the year the model out. and also depends on luck.
like harddisk, some people manage to use it up to 10 year with no problem, some had thiers spoil within weeks.
as for year made, newer model has better shutter design compare to previous.
indeed ur info u gotten is somewhat, estimated. from what i have chart for machine made from2 year back are: entry-level max shutter recommended - 30,000 mid-level max shutter recommended - 50,000 high-level max shutter recommended - 100,000
but i guess the new models from this year onwards are: entry-level max shutter recommended - 50,000 mid-level max shutter recommended - 100,000 high-level max shutter recommended - 200,000
but there is many owner with entry level from 2 year back manage to use pass 100,000 shutters. also there is many who had thier jammed even before 30k.

I think can replace... but by the time your camera hits 200k, maybe it's time you should upgrade to a new cam...

Mind to explain becuase I do not think it have limit shutter count. The camera shutter is a mechanical component and all mechanical part would eventually fail. Hence that the limit. When the shutter fail, just repair or replace the shutter with a new component

However, it also depend on your luck, some of car can last more than 10 years without much replacing parts. It just how you took care of it.

100k is long way to achive, unless you snap 200-300 pics everyday,
i think i used mine extensively but just hit a 13k shutter count for 1 year, so, no worries

QUOTE(honvee @ Oct 13 2009, 01:50 AM) any idea how much would it cost to replace the shutter? it depend on the camera models, avoid using maximum shutter speed eg: 1/4000 to prolong shutter lifetime

Don't worry too much about shutter lifetime, if your shutter's time is up, then have to fix, or get new camera. Better to worry about more important things like how to prevent fungus growth, or even personal safety when taking photos.

QUOTE(navilink @ Oct 13 2009, 08:39 PM) not really.. lets say u went to a trip to europe with ur dslr nearing shutter count max and suddenly wham.. ur whole trip is remembered thru minds only you can always bring another camera body if you are paranoid. Machineries do get broken at random times, and you won't be able to tell when it is going to disappoint you. One can come back from Europe with a perfect camera but broken lens, or a corrupted memory card, or even... an exploded battery.
