Same technique speed painters use, but for an amateur like me, remove the speed part, lol. My problem is making the picture more defined, with stronger and more contrasting tones. But this is why i'm constantly practicing. Thing is, motivation is hard to come by, since this usually takes me 2-3hours of sitting down and facing the pc.

I'm fixing the miku pic. Redrawing len, meiko and neru. Didn't really study their look properly enough, I guess.

Btw, the miku pic, the not smooth part refering to the colouring or the lines? If I ink it with drawing pens, I think I can make the lines quite fine, like my mechagirl picture.

Quick and dirty cel shading, like in anime, partly because i'm lazy, and partly because i want to work on makinami. It probably didn't work so well because I didn't smooth it out at all. Well, guess any changes will happen after I finish makinami.

Actually I didn't like neru's pose, but I don't have any idea what to do to replace it. As for len, i'm going to make a better bishounen version. His hair is a tad difficult tho.

Based on comments, this is
the result. Still 80% minor cleanup of clothes, glasses and maybe modifying the eyes.
Attached Image
Actual resolution is 1280*2000. So there a LOT of cleanup to do. Est. Two to four hours of work.

@Agito: girl looks great, but I think the guys left foot, right arm and neck looks a bit odd.

because i actually posing them to 52 number...ya guy is a bit odd haha...lazy to change la...edit in PS with real a4 setting is pain in ass. whistling.gif

Lol. True that. But i'm actually amazed you actually do the linework in PS. I tried a few times, took too long, now rather do linework on paper. Much faster & less wasted time, since for me, colouring takes the most time, and in terms of achieving a finished product, there is less chance of burnout for me. Tracking my makinami pic, maybe 6 hours already on colouring. And it's still rough. The more I colour, the more things I change LOL. Too bad i'm limited by my current skills. Not reached burnout stage yet though. HER GLASSES ARE EVIL! So damn hard to draw. So is the tie. Might as well finish it now and fix up miku pic.

@sakura
Still not done yet, but thanks for the comment. Shading the glasses and the tie is going to be hellish, definitely.

As for miku pic,
redrawing some of the characters. I'm ditching the picture frames idea. Maybe make it more hi tech, but no idea at the moment what to do yet. Can you suggest something?

lol, didn't realize you prefer nose besar. Maybe will draw evil witch with big nose after this. Though probably just a quick doodle, since i have little interest in colouring.completed works unless i'm motivated. And that's a rare occurance.

The glasses are on a seperate layer already, it's just drawing the shape and shading that's hard. Can't remember the last time. I drew for more than 6-9 hours.

I wonder why you didn't liquid filter the boobs for extra volume?

boobs, not bomb actually.
Heh. I think the biggest psd file i've worked on is 40mb.

The nose it the picture is long, but hidden by the glasses frame, which was why I edited it a lot. Glasses are worn on the bridge of the more, and for full plastic frame glasses without nose pads, they are actually worn lower, hiding part of the eyes. So, I had to 'bend' the rules a bit, so her eyes are not obscured by the frame.

*fires a round of missile boobs at the glassess layer.* Evil!!!

PS CS4, window 7.

graphire 4. also 4 year old i think. my stylus already got crack...thinking to change to intuos 4 instead of replace nibs tongue.gif
*
Oh. If your graphire is already 4, then mine is more than four already. Lol. I bought it quite new lol. Anyway, intuos is expensive. I'd rather get an A4 size graphire than a small intuos. The extra tilt function really lousy to use if it's small size. Near 2k for a tablet. O_o. I wonder if i'm willing. I love drawing, but not that much. Lol. I'm more of a doodler than an artist.

My tip for making quick background is usually a camera, then painting over it. Lol.

Lol. Looks as bad as mine. But if it works no complains right? Thanks for the tips about nibs. I really need to replace my tablet nib. Considering the age, I have never replaced it yet. Pen sensitivity set very low so no need press so hard.

We should do a collaborative work sometime when you are free.

Not my design, it's actually revamped miku and kaito.
*
but you did modify them, so i consider it your design. Just based it on existing characters. In a way, I consider this true fanart, rather than those who trace or replicate the artist original work pixel by pixel/line by line.
My own style actually heavily chinese comic oriented, but i'm trying to merge it with other styles for a unique look. Haven't found one i'm happy with tho.

Cats can't draw, you lied. btw if you're a fan of pencil drawing, do check out noizi ito technique.
*
Got picture also don't want to belief. What happened to rule no 2 in this thread?

From what I can see,
Noizi ito's technique isn't much different from other professional pencil artists. The same rules applies, which is using different pencil hardness to create depth of field.

I'll admit that her chara designs are amazing, but I don't see what's special about her technique. Mind explaining further?

i use mechanical pencil only. 2b all the way...in my deviantart all same pencil for years tongue.gif

I told my old art teacher that two pencils is enough, and he grunted that it's not about using what's ONLY available, but using BETTER TOOLS to make BETTER WORKS.
Frankly when I conteng2, usually I use one only. I have used more than six, but drawing fruits on a table gets old quick, and due to here being malaysia, no nudes. (>.>) it's always bunga, buah or pemandangan. Which is probably why a lot of advertising artists here cannot draw very believable characters, and even they get the body proportions wrong from time to time.

same here also use either 0.5 or 0.7 2b mechanical pencil for my drawings ..
but of course ..I'm sucks at it >.>
need more practice ..I'm seriously getting lazy =.=;

wow. You guys like to draw using mechanical pencils eh? I prefer wooden ones though. Don't like the way mechanical pencil feels. It's just me tho.

Lol. Art is about fighting with the inner laziness. I haven't been able to stay motivated for longer than 9-10 hours to complete a picture. In a way, i'm lazy too. I'm amazed at how some professionals can spend 50 hours on one. Esp those with big lush backgrounds.

Hey!. Good stuff. I just can't do that with a mechanical.

True, pencil require sharpening, but it was a great excuse to go out the lecture hall to smoke. Bwahaha....

I dunno about you, but usually I sharpen my pencils with a slight flat point, like a chisel, by tilting it, can get varying thickness. As for getting blunt quickly, there is a reason why 'hard' pencils exist, isn't it?
I like the way you draw the swirling effect.

It just doesn't come naturally to me. So is smoke.

More practice required until I can freely draw without referencing pictures.

As for help your or my skill level, I think it'll be the same thing all art students get. Draw from reference till you get it right, or bore to death drawing the same thing till you get it right.
