Hey buddy I don't think you'll be able to fix GYW shoes here in Malaysia, I've asked the cobbler at ikano and she said instead of fixing it she'll add a layer of vibram rubber sole underneath the shoes..

Wanted to fix my cheaneys sole, so I guess I'll just send it back to their factory biggrin.gif

When you say plastic tab, do you mean toe taps?

Generally which is better - toe taps, topy, or vibrant soles? As I understand topies are quite thin right? And vibrant soles can be quite thick?
*
Sorry typo
Put topy and add heal and taps. I don't do toe taps.

It can be done actually. Won't be pretty though. The cobbler will sew on a cheap rubber sole complete with heel.

I stand corrected!
Look like some place can do it to make it like new

I have a dark brown leather shoes. Planning to get brush, shoe polish, and maybe water repellent. Basic shoe care will do. Would you guys please suggest:
1. Brush (applicator brush or cleaning brush or both?)
2. Cream or polish?
3. Cleaning agent (previously read something like ivory cream or what)
4. Any others?

Woly is not a must, but I want something decent and affordable, regardless of brand. Previously I read here, seems that Woly is quite OK for affordable price (which I've seen some of them in Plal). The thing with Plal, their staffs seems to be..cocky? Not helpful at all.

I like the products better that kiwi, may have to buy online.
Check on their site on where to find them

If you have Church, C&J, Loake, Bally, Lobb or whatever high end leather shoes then get Saphir. Mid range or average mix leather get woly and below.
*
Well get saphir but stingy with using it might as well get woly imho. Use saphir monthly vs using woly weekly.

All wax product repels water to a certain degree even saphir

Suede products one needs to coat with water repellent crap.

No doubt its the tarmac and to a lesser extent pavements next to roads. Carpets and tiles and even smooth cement floors won't do this to the soles I'd think!

Don't you guys feel uneasy buying shoes online? What if it doesn't fit? Plus sometimes the pictures on the websites aren't really representative of the real thing... Especially the colour.

BTW I got the loake shoe trees from Plal. RM 169. Loakes website says its cedar but the invoice from Plal states its rosewood. I tried googling and SF says its probably not cedar. Anyway they also had shoe trees from Woly at RM 65. That's beech wood.
*
Never have the issue buying shoes online very normal for me living in states.

Cedar shoe tree some ppl buy on taobao

Guys, what conditioner should I used for my full grain leather shoes? Plal doesn't really carry any except for mink oil, but I did a search and apparently mink oil is bad for good quality leather. Is there a place in Malaysia that dells good conditioner? Parksons's or Robinson's or some thing?
*
This is not bad but no avail here

it was a shock to me as well. I was ready with rm1000 in my hand since they quoted me in rupiah and I guess I wrongly calculated the currency exchange.

You can make your order on their facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/SNTLM). Unless you gonna spend months in Bandung, There is no need to go all the way to their place . You can just dropped them a line and attached those photos of mine saying you interested to order it from them. In regards of the measurement, just trace your foot on papers, write the length and width in both cm and inch, take picture of it and send it to them. They will quote you the price and estimated delivery time.

BUT..please take note of this...

These are self-taught otai shoe-makers who make little profit from making leather shoes and they do it simply because they love doing it. They really take their time to produced a single pair (some even take 6 months) and their very basic english can be somewhat challenging if you have little knowledge of Indonesian language. I have the advantage of my lady being Indonesian so communication is not a problem, and also she's quite persistence in making sure the guys delivers my Indy boots on time tongue.gif

A lot of patience requires when dealing with these guys. Once you handed your money, it is all based on trust. You push them and get on their nerves, just say good bye to your shoes...and your money laugh.gif

But once you get on their good sides, they can make any shoes that you want as long it is made of leather and have goodyear welt construction..all that just for RM500. When I was there, I lost count of how many RW875, Wolverine's 1000 miles and C&J Islay homages being displayed on their "bespoke racks" waiting for customers pick up.
*
I learnt about them, great for ppl living in the region.
Wolverine 1000 miles shoes can be found for usd$40 during their Aug sales in Michigan HQ

ALDEN do offer factory seconds at around 50% off iirc.

Other brands such as AE can be found say usd$120-150 easy with factory seconds

Redwing at Nordstrom rack around usd$90, at redwing Minnesota they go for usd$100 each

QUOTE(Glockers @ May 14 2015, 01:59 PM)
LOL....J&M cheapest is RM800 if im not mistaken.
*
Not worth paying 800rm for J&M. The Italian range is very expensive others all make outside USA and not Goodyear welt. I buy at my local outlet each pair is like usd$70-90 buy 3 get 1 free.

Might as well take the hassle get call AE customer service to order items from shoebank.com (factory seconds) get it ship to a forwarder like comgateway. The current sale not good. At times nice casual dress shoes as low as usd$80 to usd$129. Free shipping in USA.

If I recalled, non-EU purchases of meermins enjoy a non-VAT price.

However, I am not sure if the policy has changed.

As I am in the EU now, I had to pay the tax on my recent purchase.

If you go to styleforum and look at the meermin appreciation thread, perhaps you would pull the trigger hahaha.
*
They do reduce -21% for non EU order.
https://www.meermin.es/faq.php

Outside eu prices are should in usd vat excluded. Double monk is usd$175, plus shipping ~usd$45 and vat of 6%.
820rm. Even for usd$220 it's cheaper than AE with great quality even when it's made in China finish in Spain

Jones bookmaker a lot of their products made in Portugal

Hello, I'm new to leather shoe care, I saw there are many shoe care products and not sure which could be used, my aim is to lengthen the lifespan of the leather. Hope sifu here could share some experience here notworthy.gif
*
No need to buy saphir just get woly or tarrago products.
I use cream and conditioner products. Do care for them weekly if not buy so ex products don't care for it for months it's not going to help

I got a Woly shoe cream for black leather, but recently got a brown leather, I don't think I can use my existing show cream on it, I saw they have dubbin, and local brand mink oil, on what occasion should I use dubbin/mink oil?
*
On NO occasion u should be applying mink oil on leather dress shoes. Get woly leather balm to clean and condition once a month and polish with cream weekly

Sure there are mink oil in saphir products but it's small.
To know the truth test it out on a small part of your shoe

For some reason shoes in Malaysia do suffer from insane markup.

E.g., I've bought a pair of Church's earlier this year from Europe and that went for a couple bucks above RM1k. Checked out the prices in Malaysia, and the same pair of shoes hit for nearly RM2k.

Prices in Singapore's even more ridiculous.

Going to snag another pair when I am in UK/Europe later this year.
*
considering rental cost in Singapore is crazy high and labor is high too, buying things there generally cost more.
