Dear bros, like to get your opinions here. I just bought a pair of leather men shoes from a recent Europe trip.
Wondering if it is advisable to add rubber sole to existing leather sole to make it longer lasting, more comfortable and less slippery? If yes, any recommended cobblers and estimated cost? thanks a lot for sharing! |

Hi all sifu2 and bros, recently i visit 'Jalan Jalan Japan' , a Japanense thrift shop in Malaysia and I found some USED Good Year Welted shoes selling at RM50 only, but I don't know how to differentiate the leather quality. Any sifu here mind to share or teach me some tips ? Thanks in advance.

QUOTE(xortz @ Jun 14 2018, 12:02 PM) That looks more like the leather has been burnished by friction rather than a stain. And the fact that the debossed hush puppies wording does not have the same "stain" also supports my theory. You can sand off the burnished surface, but you probably wouldn't like the result... |

QUOTE(Drivingmoc118 @ Jun 1 2018, 09:49 PM) Hi Bros, I have just received my Vibram rubber soles purchased from Taobao. Is it better to add/stick the rubber soles with glue (assuming using glue is better than stitching it on the shoes) while brand new or after wearing it for several times? thanks a lot! |

Greetings everyone
I have a question for all you sifus. I am troubled since I bought my first pair of Loake 1880s coupla weeks ago (from PLal, where else?). After a couple of wears, trying to break in the shoes (about 20 minutes each time), when I took a look at the sole, I was pretty shocked to find that the sole stitches near the toe were actually flattened, by being in contact with the ground! There was no wear in the sole at the toe area, but it seems the stitch channel is so shallow, that the stitching threads actually stand proud of the rest of the sole, and strike the ground with each step. This happened to both right and left shoes. My question: Will this cause premature failure of the sole stitching, cos to my mind, the constant abrasion must eventually tear and break the threads, at the toe (without the sole being worn down much). Is this a case of manufacturing defect getting past Loake QC? I had speaks with Sham, the PLal boss, but he just said it's "normal", and "no problem", and that if I was really concerned, to stick a rubber half-sole on, but I am not convinced. (BTW, is this the way to post: by hitting FastReply? Again, first time posting!) |
