You probably bought those socks at Uniqlo after seeing me wearing them (cultivate some originality!). I like these navy pindot socks so much I went back and bought another pair.

Good choice. Most people are overinvested in watches and woefully underinvested in shoes. But shoes have a bigger impact than watches.

calf can be cg. grain correction, where the leather is sanded down and a layer of acrylic is applied, is a process that can be applied to any leather, calf or cow.

even very expensive shoes use cg if the colour is black. in black, it is pointless to use unblemished leather if you're gonna dye it an amorphous black anyway.

You can just slide it off, the buckles are fixed to elastic bands.

Not true, shoes and watches have same impact, both must be paired.

Hmmm, I dunno, I never wear a watch and nobody ever says anything. But if I go around without shoes...

Watches is a particularly unfruitful arena to compete in. It's all about money. It also happens to be an object people are willing to pay absurb amounts for, like cars. Someone wearing an 18K rose gold JLC Reverso will win. Regardless of what a well-chosen Seiko you may be wearing.

But shoes is an area nobody pays any attention to. RM1.5K will get you very good shoes, but will only buy you an unremarkable watch. Almost nobody in KL pays RM1.5K for shoes. When was the last time you saw a pair?

Shirts is another area one can routinely win without spending much money and IMO shirts (and particularly suits) influence how you are perceived a lot more than a watch.

If you get shirt, trouser and shoes right you don't need a watch to stand out.

Added on March 28, 2011, 10:17 pmI mean, my MD wears a Rolex Explorer and my GM wears a Lange. How the f*** can you compete?

But they wear plasticky black loafers and (mostly) RTW shirts.

Yawn, I though you were going to highlight something else, like "Rolex" or "Lange".

silverstan has a point. if your md shows up to  a black tie event with his rolex explorer and you show up with a gold plated casing black leather strap tissot or longines, you are going to win hands down.

Actually, he still wins, because with the Rolex he has higher status.

No, in that specific situation (black tie) where everyone is dressed homogenously, having this on your wrist

beats having this

However, in situations where there is no uniform, having an expensive watch doesn't even begin to compensate for deficiencies in the wardrobe department.

I had a housemate while in uni, he would always say that different people had different tastes. I told him one day that some people have taste and some do not.

maybe.

the best dressed person i saw this year was not a suited person (most suited people look terrible, not just in malaysia but everywhere). was at the loaf pavilion and out of nowhere 2 guys came out of pavi. one was wearing a white t, skinny jeans, and flourescent yellow sneakers. the jeans was 3 inches above his ankles. but i was amazed by the look -- everything fit so well, hair was great too.

I want to remind everyone that only shoes as those described in the first post of this thread belong here.

If it does not have a leather sole it does not belong here.
