Here's my feedback to u. How many years have you worked in that company and how many of those years did you receive bonus? In my opinion basic pay is more security compared to bonus as bonus may be subjective but basic pay is definate. However do keep in mind the higher your basic pay, the higher your responsibilities, and also you will be among the first to be considered (being considered simply because of the high pay) to be fired during a recession. |

It's a question of whether r u willing to pursue a better future. In my opinion, you have leverage as there are many other companies outside that is willing to pay way above 3.3k for your 7 years exp (Dependant on what you have to offer. If in this 7 years you have been doing work that has no value, then too bad). But then again, if you are unwilling to pursue a better future, suck it up and dont complain. |

The amount is huge but I suggest do not be impressed with that as cost of living in Abu Dhabi is EXTREMELY high. Correct me if I am wrong. |

Yea OnG pays that well. However it doesnt come without sacrifice. Most of the high time fliers that earn big bucks at a very young age within OnG is always associated with extremely niche skills OR being on oil rigs OR the work has an impact towards the well being of their health / safety. |

Well I could be wrong but lets do a comparison of OnG pay for IT, OnG pay for engineering (for this one, put yourself into one of the criteria's that I have mentioned in previous post) and IT pay for consultants in an IT company?? The "high fliers" I mentioned previously is subjective and pardon me. Lets quantify it. Earning 5 figures with 2 years experience. Note: This is for a healthy comparison / debate purpose and no offense is meant to any party |

Thanks for the input. Any better clarification for this off-shore term? Off shore here meaning overseas? Or being stationed on an oil-rig? |

You have already lost. The first person to give out the number loses. Why did you tell them that your current pay is 1.8k in the first place? how is that any relevance to the job you are about to take? The salary should be dependant on job responsibilities, not how much you previously earned. |

It is not to say that chef couldnt earn big bucks. Its just that your starting point will be a lot of suffering + underpaid. Later on you could open ur own place. |

Then again ask yourself. You are aiming for a job that everyone has their eyes on. Why should the employer take you when there are better candidates? That is the primary filtering criteria for fresh grads.. Too late to regret now. Unable to enter OnG industry isnt the end of the world. Comeptition is so tough in that industry because of the fat pay. But what ppl dont see is that it is highly stressful as well because they expect a lot from you. You couldnt prove it to them that you are capable (through ur university results). So why should they hire you? |

What kind of internal audit? internal accounting audit? not to pour cold water on you, but internal account audit seldom provides good future ahead (note: SELDOM) if it is not coupled with auditing experience. |

First thing first, how does it impact your future job with regards to how much u earn in the previous? ONLY IF YOU TELL THE NUMBER, then you will be at a disadvantage. The new job should pay you what the new job salary is, not based on your old job. In salary negotiation, the first person to throw out a number loses. |

It isnt my tactic. Its just something I learnt from dreamer101 so the credit goes to him.
When ppl ask for your current pay, logically thinking, how does this relate to your next job? why should your pay be linked to your previous job? The job should pay you what the job pays, not based on previous salary. When asked, politely decline saying it is confidential information. @CMK96 When you throw out a number first, you lose the leverage to argue for higher salary but the hiring manager can argue to offer you lower from what you asked. @chienta What industry are you in that after 5 years of working exp you didnt even touch RM3K? Do you have tertiary education? Btw, when they ask your expected salary, YOU DO NOT counter them by asking how much are they willing to pay. Instead just refuse to divulge such information. Note: No doubt you may lose some job opportunities by doing so as refusal to reveal the current / previous salary could be viewed negatively by the HR / hiring manager. |

Depending on ur current position. Asking 10-15% increment for RM3k pay is just sad. You move just for a small increment. Asking 10-15% for RM10k salary could be different. I believe in moving only when its 25% and above (based on my current pay scale). |
