I have a four year old Yamaha RX-V457. Yamaha RX-V457
No HDMI (for audio - there is digital optical&coaxial input only)
I am pretty happy with it but I am planning to get a FullHD TV and a BD player as well. Will I be shortchanged on sound without upgrading this avr?

Any advice for me?

Added on 12 Jan 2010
What I mean to ask is, is there anything from the AQ perspective that I would be missing out on? Digital gives me PCM which is already good enough?
*
You can consider either RX-V465 or RX-V565.

For future invesment better go for at least RX-V465. RX-V365 is very basic AVR and it don't support video through HDMI and HD audio.
*
it only supports video signal using HDMI n no audio signal

it does support audio, but only switching, not repeater...therefore no audio out from the speaker output terminal.
*
yeah, so video using HDMI, and audio signal using either analog or optical

Sorry my mistake, they said it was RM600 more than 1065..which they are selling RM3100 at that time... and it all add up to RM3700 not RM3000 notworthy.gif Even though it was over budget.. i took it the next day. It's in Kepong.

Now need to wait until the end of the month  sweat.gif  to get that Klipsch F1 from htkaki.
*
Wow, it's cheap, but do you have to buy or pay additional more for anything, if you're getting the RX-V1900 for RM3700...?for instance, do U have to buy speakers or cables from them????

how do i get my 465 to display dts-tru hd/dolby hd whenever it decodes? every time i play blu-ray with dolby/dts hd it only shows pro-logic2. any sifu here can help?
*
What model of your Blu-Ray player are you using, u need to set it to bitstream rather than PCM, in order for your 465 to decode the signal to HD format.

don't be mislead by the high voltage from Onkyo, their power wattage standard is based on JEITA.... not the normal standard that is used by yamaha, & other brands ....

Hey guys.. I just ordered the Yamaha NSP60 speaker (1 centre and 2 surround) and was looking around to see if they have a stand for the 2 surround but can't find any...  do you guys know where I can get a stand for it?

You can try the famous ATS Rack shop in amcorp mall, but not cheap, if cheap, i think you can search in Jalan Pasar

Checked...only have DoblyTrueHD, no DTS HD  rclxub.gif

BTW purchased the Yamaha AVR RX-V367 within my budget at the moment...
till I upgrade everything later in a better environment.
*
Even if no DTS Master Audio nor Dolby TrueHD, just instruct your PS3 to send bitstream signal to Yamaha amp, let the amp decode DTS Master Audio or Dolby TrueHD,provided your amp have the decoder.

Hi...All Sifu here,

I am a dummy for AVR.
Recenlty I just purchased a complete of AV system which include RX-V1065 AVR, NS-8390 Front Speaker, NS-P60 Speaker(Center+Rear Speaker) and Soavo-900 Sub woofer at Yamaha Weekend Sales, Kelana Jaya.
All together cost RM 6840

Hope sifu can recomend/validate whether the above combination are ok or not?
and the offer price are reasonable or not?

Thank a lot smile.gif
*
RX-V1065 is considered Mid-High Range Receiver, the Soavo 900 Sub is High End, and the NS8390 with NSP60 is a mid high basic home theater speakers, which is a 3-way speakers.

the receiver and subwoofer is future proof, the next thing is if you may want to upgrade speakers in the future, you don need to worry bout the sub and receiver.

Any good recomendation for the upgrade speakers in the future?
Offcourse Soavo the best but i dont have so high budget sad.gif

it's very subjective on the speaker, for me i personally like the SPK-500 in Brown color, very stylish, looks kinda european design.

What does PCM stand for ?

Added on December 15, 2010, 2:28 pm
Now...... what is bitstream ? How do i set it to bitstream ?
*
PCM stands for Pulse Code Modulation, it's another decoding format.

Bitstream meaning that you have set the player to transfer digital bit signal to your amplifier, n let the amplifier to decode dts or dolby signal;

Once you have set this, you must also select Dolby or DTS in the Audio Setup selection in your DVD, make sure it's an original DVD.

I am watching mostly Blu Ray now, and i get only PCM. Meaning i am not the right audio decoding format for DTS HD ?
*
U have to set bitstream under HDMI audio out from your Blu Ray player
