clivengu: That test is not accurate, or rather, it is not idiot-proof. Some people will not read the instructions properly, misusing the chart and causing misdiagnosis.
The LensAlign is expensive but reduces error. Braynumb: The 16-35mm is full-frame; the 16-80mm is DT (APS-C). APS-C circle: ![]() This is the Sony 18-70mm F3.5-5.6 DT kit lens, on my Minolta Dynax 7 film SLR. This is what an APS-C lens looks like on full-frame. Film is full-frame, and so all older SLR lenses before digital SLRs were invented are full-frame compatible (except the APS/Vectis series, but that is very rare.) If you zoom the lens to 24mm, the circle will enlarge and go away, so it looks like a full frame. ![]() This was at 22mm F13 on the Dynax 7. If you put this lens on the A850/A900, it will enable APS-C mode automatically. |

Yes, full-frame lenses will not vignette when in APS-C mode.
ronnie: Not to say reduce, but it will crop out the center APS-C area (24x16mm) out of the full-frame area (36x24mm). So the A850/A900 in APS-C mode, is really an APS-C camera. The surface area does not change. |

QUOTE(Uzumaki NaruTo @ Oct 2 2009, 11:13 PM) Thanks for the explanation. So it seems that its similar to LX3 too. Need to +0.3 / +0.7 EV to make it actual white. A proper camera will try to get the exposure equivalent to 18% gray, it's the standard. So it's should be the same for all the camera. My indonesian Chinese Fren used to use his skin to gauge the exposure. He say that his skin tone is almost equivalent to 18% Gray. So nowadays I always try to use spot metering at ppl face. Press the AEL on my A200 and snap. -------- Any Sifu can tell me How I can get the AEL works when using flash on Aperture mode on A700? When I press the AEL, it always goto Slow Sync, and my photo get overexposed. Thanks I know that in aperture mode, when flash is ON, the shuttle speed will become at least "1.5*focal length" and the flash power will be determined by the TTL metering. So If I using my A200, A mode, flash ON, maybe at 50mm. When I press the AEL, the shutter speed remain at 1/80s. The only changes is the flash power. But this is not the case when i m using A700. Pressing AEL will become Slow Sync and the shutter speed will decrease to get the correct EV. This post has been edited by hkhk: Oct 3 2009, 12:46 AM |

hkhk: The AEL slow sync mode with flash on the A700, is to expose a face that is not hit by the flash correctly. So you AEL on a face behind, then flash - it will get the ambient light correctly exposed as if there was no flash.

QUOTE(wha7ever @ Oct 2 2009, 09:36 PM) Between the two (Tamron & Sony), definitely it's the Sony since Sony uses Tamron Technology and put some of their own magic into it. So is it Sigma lens sharper, faster af and produce nice colors compare to Sony?I think the best would the the Sigma (not tested and don't think anyone here owns it). I read it at DPReview (http://www.dpreview.com/news/0906/09061804sigma.asp), it has HSM and incorporates a Hybrid OS (Optical Stabilizer). @shootkk : I got one request if you don't mind, can show some sample pics results of A850 (APS-C mode) + SAL18250? I dont think we really need OS here. Need all in one lens before going for cz1680 |

And yea the Sigma 50mm f2.8. Was expecting it to be blazing fast since a700 has a f2.8 sensor. BUT NO! Slow like normal. LOL.

Thanks albnok.
What if i don;t care about the background. I like to have the AEL without slow sync like I have on A200. Maybe M mode is the only way? What I mean is to use the AEL to change the flash TTL power, rather than the shutters speed. For example » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « If I shoot like in this photo, most likely it will be under expose as it's metered at the white Color lab coat. Maybe 5% gray or less. I pressed AEL (Slow sync), the shutter speed dropped to 1/6. Too slow for me. To get the face correctly exposed while keeping the shutter speed at 1/60s, i increase the EV compens to ~+1.7EV. The changes would be the flash power. For A200, maybe I just point at the face, recompose and shoot. My method maybe incorrect.. |

QUOTE(ianho @ Oct 2 2009, 08:35 PM) ya the test is pretty accurate. i've played around with my in body lens calibration to move the focussing around n it corresponds with the testchart. Albert.. sorry i don understand.. meaning if i do test as instructed properly it should give +- accurate result? what is this "LensAlign" thing? d PDF article explain some pretty interesting understanding on how the camera focusing works. But hv not really tested yet since my printer ink running out & d chart doesnt print out clear enough. Added on October 3, 2009, 3:41 amJust now went to sony center in One Utama... saw they have a display unit of A700 VG... discount 10% for Display unit = Rm 980... still expensive... but i give it a try on my A700.. & actually im pretty suprised with the WEIGHT! is very light! omost cant feel d addition weight. After add on the VG of course first thing is how big d camera bcome.. n it looks veli cool d way how they design d panel line through from body to d VG (tats design assessment For practical use.. of course.. is COmfortableeeeeeee holding in potrait shot.. I tend to position my eyes lower than d viewfinder when i first raise it. The amount of energy used to hold the camera when shooting in potrait was so much reduced with VG..& FULLCONTROL button! The only thing that need to get a bit used to ... is the VG tends to get in the way when using a shorter lens on landscape. The V Grip will block a bit of my hand movement below the lens. But afterall ... is really nice to have a the Vertical grip... but if i get one.. i'll have to get a new bag!!! current bag cannot fit in This post has been edited by clivengu: Oct 3 2009, 03:41 AM |
