In my opinion, the most important pieces are the 2 fronts (must get floor stand ones) and the sub-woofer. The center and rear are more auxillary....
*
Actually the center is just as important as the fronts. Some might say center is even more important (especially for movies).

Yea, I gotta agree on the front being important especially for movies... that's where all the clear dialogue comes from usually...

yup our bro is right. 60% of the sound actually coming from center speaker. people tend to think front is the most important which not true for a 5.1 system.

Is that the surround speaker on top of your floorstander? If so why is it there and not on the side/back where they are supposed to be?

It should be around that price... list price here was 3499 but I bought it cheaper for about RM2.8k cos I know the HN people (their bosses).. I bought the sub for about RM1.1k and the dock for RM160 or RM180 or so.

I believe that the model you're referring to (YST-SW515) is only 1 year older (or less) than the YST-RSW300 and has been discontinued...not sure how it sounds so you need to test both and see how they sound

this baby came out in 2004 smile.gif
One difference I can tell is that the RSW-300 has 'Advanced YST II' since it's newer (vs 'Advanced YST') which I also dunno what's the difference... could be some marketing gimmick laugh.gif

Read more about is at http://www.yamaha.ca/av/technology/Advanced_YST.jsp

The other difference would be...

YST-SW315
- Downfiring
- 350 x 430 x 382 mm

YST-RSW300
- Front Firing
- 372 x 400 x 428 mm
- should be slightly more power efficient

Do you want a down firing or front firing sub? brows.gif

sw315 is my first sub. sounded like crap. shame on yamaha to call such a thing a subwoofer. they should call it a low frequency speaker instead tongue.gif
