I tried previously (when my Hero was not rooted) but the thing came up with error. Remote not permitted or something to that effect. I haven't try it with current rooted Hero though.

Same here. I tested MoDaCo but the difference is not that significant compared to generic rom.
Idk app2sd's advantages over normal apps' installation, especially when Hero's storage is much bigger compared to G1's. If you do app2sd, kindly share us the newby-friendly step by step guide to do that. I'd love to try that on my Hero. This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Oct 6 2009, 08:39 AM |

I have requested a dedicated subforum for Android like iPhone's, WinMo's and Symbian's from one of them staff here. The person replied me by asking how big Android community is. I replied and now I'm waiting for his discussion with admins.

Yep. Cannot fake as you don't have the root access.
You may want to use the pre-rooted generic ROM if you don't know how to root yourself. |

Oh my... The wanting waiting game :-)
Regarding earphone, I'd pair my Hero with Senn PX100, Koss KSC75 or AKG K26P. Most probably with K26P. PX100 and 75 are open and being open they are terrible for traveling :-) Oh follow this tips if you want to exclude certain folders from being included in album/music app, http://is.gd/40Ja2. Just make sure you create the .nomedia file from start menu instead of context menu. It won't work if you create it from Right Click > New > Text Document. |

I think the wallpaper is not low-res. Maybe you scaled it down.
Try put in one wallpaper into your sdcard. Then choose that wallpaper as your home wallpaper. When selected, there is draggable window to actually determine how big your home wallpaper is. Is you want hi-res, drag the window to the edge. This is same with lock screen wallpaper. |

You use Market or SAM? If SAM most probably the app is not available there. You may want to download IO File Manager instead, as it is available direct downlpad from its official website. Google it.

Anybody here know how to backup places in Footprint? I made several footprints and would like to have them in safe. I personally use Sprite's and I don't know if it backs the footprints.

Today I learn how to remove app and change its launcher icon :-)
Some screenshots with Eclair (GMail and Mail) and Tenuis (Album, Browser, and Superuser) icons: ![]() ![]() At last no more ugly Superuser icon, no more cartoon-ish camera and camcorder icons. Yahuu. |

ElmI,
I tried that way easily can delete the apk. However, I don't know if I completely uninstall the app. For example the Java app included in MCR, Jbed. From quick google we know that the Jbed comes with at least two files. 1. Jbed.apk and 2. libjbedvm.so. I don't want to litter my Hero with orphaned files. I get this anal from using Windows. You uninstall a software and still have the registry items, temp files and such. Hoho. And do we have the odex files? From ls /system/app I don't see any odex file in my Hero ;_; Anyway, I replaced some of the icons with stock google icons :-) Much better than the HTC I see. ![]() ![]() ![]() Eh anybody know what's the apk for the Phone app? I wanted to change the icon ;_; This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Nov 15 2009, 07:38 AM |

To change the icons, just follow a guide in ElmI's link. I follow that. For example, to change GMail app's icon:
0. With assumption you already set up Android SDK properly 1. Pull GMail app from your Hero to local directory with adb pull <remote directory> <local directory> In this case, adb pull /system/app/Gmail.apk D:\ pulls Gmail.apk to my root of D:\ ![]() NB: You can list the apps with adb shell ls /system/app NB: To pull everything in /system/app, adb pull /system/app/ D:\ ![]() 2. Determine the icon file used by the Gmail app. One way is to view the Gmail.apk with 7-Zip. Please keep the 7-Zip window open. As pointed by the guide, most of the time the icon will be inside \res\drawable\. To make searching easier, I extract the Gmail.apk. You can search from its folder. ![]() ![]() 3. Rename your new icon to match the icon inside \res\drawable. In this case, ic_launcher_mail.png. 4. Drag the renamed new icon into your Gmail.apk's 7-Zip window. Make sure you drag into the right directory, \res\drawable\ ![]() 5. Click OK when there is any confirmation dialog. 6. Push the Gmail.apk back into your /system/app folder by adb push <local directory> <remote directory>. ![]() Enjoy your new icon :-) |

Is the network you are connecting allow you to access it? Does it use any security like WPA or WEP?
My home network only allow certain MAC address to access wirelessly with it. I don't use any WEP or WPA too. And I can connect to Internet no problem :-) |

I don't know where can get a replacement batt for Hero. I'm looking for it too :-)
Tried several shops at LYP, they don't have it. Maybe I should shoot some emails to SiS and HTC Malaysia for info. |

You might want to directly ask Celcom/Maxis/DiGi is you wanted to know about data plan & rates. I believe that's the best way to educate ourself about those things.
naTTan, I removed (according to Paul's features list): 1. Jbed Java 2. Notes app from Dragon 3. android-wifi-tether 1.60 pre3 4. Andrew Schwimmer's WiFi Status indicator All HTC default apps are intact. I might go another round and replace Peep with TwitterRide. Mostly because Peep's bland interface and icon. Edit: OK I removed Peep completely by adb shell rm /system/app/*Twit* as suggested by Paul. Update: OK this maybe just a placebo. I feel my Hero is faster without Peep and its widget. And I saw this ![]() This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Nov 17 2009, 09:59 PM |
