Idk who and why local Hero replaces Market with SAM. All my current apps are not available from SAM. If I remember correctly, SAM don't even have any file manager app.
Maybe SAM got ASTRO but imho ASTRO is ugly. Hate the UI. I currently use ES File Manager. The most nice UI I found in Market for a file manager. Edit: I wonder if I can buy apps with CIMB Petronas Credit Card. This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Sep 25 2009, 03:26 PM |

Enjoy your Hero mate :-)
Paid apps are still inaccessible for me :-( However I already bought my first paid app with PayPal. Luckily the author use PayPal for the full license instead of Checkout. I bought a lifetime license of EasyMoney for 4.99USD. 5* app :-) |

Welcome to the club mate :-) As our stringfellow said, you may want to check the class of that 16GB. I personally went to LYP to procure a Class 6 16GB, ended up with only 8GB Class 6.
LYP people said there is no such thing as Class 6 16GB. I said I have it. In my ass. Bah! I'll personally will avoid anything slower than Class 6. Class 2 will only bring your Hero to its knee :-( I know as I used to have 8GB Class 2 in my G9, and the camera turned lethargic like a slow-moving arboreal mammals of South America. Avoid it. |

I'd like to share a way to access your sdcard with your computer's Wi-Fi. I saw the steps from xda-developers forum and I think it's good to share as our reference.
1. Download SwiFTP from Market. 2. Download FileZilla. Get the portable version of it here. No installation required. 3. Run SwiFTP. 4. Setup your username/password at Settings. For example, Username: a1 Password: a1 Port: 2121 Stay within folder: /sdcard 5. At SwiFTP Server main page, click Enable wifi. 6. Click Start. Observe the status Server status: Running Server URL: ftp://192.168.1.130:2121/ Wifi status: Enabled 7. Run FileZilla. Fill in the details and click Quickconnect. ![]() You should have your /sdcard by now :-) Now go and test upload some files. This steps are based on this. Thanks to him for the idea. Yep. I personally use Amon Ra's Recovery Image as pointed by ElmI. Use Flashrec to flash the recovery image and turn off your Hero. Reboot your Hero by holding Power and Home button.
At the Android System Recovery, scroll and click Nandroid backup. The resultant backup files/images will be available in your sdcard. Transfer them to your computer for safe keeping :-) About Market, use Market Enabler to access paid apps. I myself don't use credit card, so I can't comment much on purchasing paid apps. However, I bought a full license of a trial app, EasyMoney via PayPal :-) |

I found out Sygic's Malaysian map is outdated. The app also not user-friendly. Nice UI compared to Garmin but still I feel sad spent some monies for the license :-(

Welcome to the club naTTan haha XD
Ahh the casing and screen protector. I'm still using food wrapper for the time being. Tomorrow after office I'm going to LYP to apply Capdase Anti-Fingerprint screen protector. Should be available tomorrow from Cycom Apple (I asked them to source it last two weeks) Casing is a black FlexiShield. Bought from ebay and the ETA is anyday next week. I bought two apps already :-) EasyMoney and Sygic Mobile Map. We should join and try Waze though. Open and free, turn GPS. |

Edit: My FREE apps list Aldiko - E-book reader. Awesome. Downloaded Sherlock Holmes novels. No need to buy from Kinokuniya haha. APNdroid - Disable 2G/3G on the fly. Battery supersaver. Astrid - Beautiful todo app. aTrackDog - Check apps updates. Automatic Task Killer - Kill apps at sleep. ES File Manager - Beautiful file manager. The best UI. Facebook for Android - Official Fb app. Err. Will update later. Time to play some sports. This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Oct 4 2009, 04:15 PM |

I installed Power Manager, but the ads spoil the feel. And by quick glance the settings are pretty extensive. I was overwhelmed on my first visit to the settings lol.
The trial lasts for 30 days isn't? Or if I'm not mistaken for our Market (no access to paid apps) the app has no expiry date but comes with ads instead. |

From its official website, http://www.xphonesoftware.com/pm.html#FAQ
What are the terms of the trial version? The terms are different depending on the country you are located in: 1. In countries were paid apps are supported the trial version has the profiles locked and the number of initial profiles has been reduced 2. In countries were paid apps are not supported, it is a fully functioning application that is supported by advertising. NOTE: the application will expire once a month and needs to be updated. So if you are running Power Manager with ads, basically that's a full program, except that it'll expires every month and with ads of course :-) I don't know if uninstalling - reinstalling the software will reset the 30-day trial or not. nyquil, sorry I missed your post :-( You should backup with Nandroid when dealing with flashing and stuff. I found that MyBackup Pro doesn't fit my needs. The only reason I flashed is the Market. I don't really care about the speed as I use original ROM for only two days :-) I don't really know the difference. This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Oct 5 2009, 05:28 PM |

I use IS on my NDSL. And I'd say it's pretty good. However, the skin/screen protector tends to catch dust. You'll end up with white-ish dust at its edges.
My last phone I put a screen protector, a silicone and I put it in a pouch. Well I guess I'll put my Hero in a pouch too :-) Maybe in a soft cloth pouch. The one with Android logo is very nice. |
