Running an overclocked kernel will always tax your batteries. That's why N1 users prefer to run undervolted ones. But they have the luxury of 1GHz Snapdragons.

QUOTE(clivengu @ May 18 2010, 11:44 PM) When the Hero Android 2.1 officially released.. am i able to flash the rom by just bringing my hero to the HTC? I hope I dont die of old age before HTC decides to release the Hero 2.1 update. i have long forgotten how to flash mine... and now it has plenty of things store inside my phone which i cant afford to lost them According to the rumors, there will be an OTA update. So when you connect to the Net through your Hero, the update will download automatically. Or something like that. I would imagine that HTC will also release the update in the form of an RUU (Rom Utility Update) which probably can be downloaded from the HTC site. Just connect your Hero to your PC and run the RUU. I dont see why you need to bring your Hero to HTC for the update. |

I dont see the problem why FroYo cant be run on a Hero though the kernel needs to be recompiled to disable a couple of options in catering to Hero's inferior hardware. I bet we'll see some Vanilla FroYo running on Hero from the modding community.
One thing you wont see anytime soon is a 2.2 SenseUI on Hero. |

I've never liked Adobe Reader. It gets bloated whenever a new version comes. Even on my laptop I'll use Fox PDF Reader. It's like 100 times faster.
Thanks for the heads-up LEVI. |

For those with rooted Hero and custom ROM enthusiasts, take heed:-
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/viewtopic.php?...c39f4d155aede4e I'm already heartbroken with the waiting and will not install the OTA. I'll wait for Modaco and gang to turn it into something cool though. |

That's an old modaco build.
In general, flashing a custom can be performed through these steps:- 1) Get the Custom ROM image to your SD Card 2) Boot into a recovery console on your phone 3) perform nandroid backup, wipe partitions, cache and whatnot 4) Flash the custom rom image through your recovery console Anyways, since you got your Hero from someone else, perhaps you should first determine what recovery image is on your phone. |

a rooted 2.1 is spotted on XDA. How's the new radio LEVI, any differences?
@normaron Looks like you have an older Amon RA. If I were you I'd update it to the latest one (1.6.2). All the Nandroid backup/restore, wiping and partitioning function are included. More info here:- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561124 You get into the recovery console by powering down your phone. Then hold the 'Home' button while powering it up again. You can also consult Shahz's thread on installing custom roms here:- http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1211670 Just jump to Step 3. Good luck! At this point I'm wondering whether you have your androidsdk properly setup yet. If you dont, then refer to Step 1 on Shahz's thread. |
