Added on February 26, 2010, 8:41 am*how to install apps inside microSD? WinXP FTW! By default app2sd is enabled on Modaco ROMs 3.x. You just need to partition your SD accordingly. Follow shahz's guide on how to do this.

QUOTE(reengurl @ Mar 5 2010, 12:00 AM) Hi people! I have finally saved enough to get a HTC HERO However, before getting one, can anyone assure me that rooting & flashing custom rom is not rocket science - as I'm quite the technological idiot. I'm worried that I might make a mistake that will turn Hero into Zero Er...following guides shouldn't be that hard right? Oh yeah, I'm planning to get the phone off someone that's selling it in this forum - he says that it has SiS warranty which means it's an ori set...anything I need to be worried of? Any htc hero can be rooted and flashed with a custom rom right? Really sorry because I'm a noob... It's easy and a straightforward process and as long as you follow the guide (like doing nandroid backups) the chances that you'll brick your phone is minimal. In any case, you can always look for help in here if you're stuck. So dont worry too much and welcome to the Android world. There are certain Hero builds that's a bit cumbersome to root. It still can be rooted, but requires some extra steps.

QUOTE(reengurl @ Mar 5 2010, 06:01 AM) Okay...but kinda worried too though as I have no experience whatsoever XD Neither did any of us. Believe it or not, we all had the same doubts and worries you're facing right now. QUOTE(reengurl @ Mar 5 2010, 06:01 AM) By the way, what do you mean by certain Hero builds that might be difficult to root compared to the rest? Which kind of build? If possible I would like to avoid those haha XD In your previous post it sounded like you are getting a Malaysian set based on the SiS warranty you mentioned. Then you should be OK. The ones that are hard to root are the newer Singapore batch and have the build number of 2.73.707.9..

I'm using Epikcase (I have several colors, to confuse iPhone users) with a Matte screen protector. Hey apika, where did you get a Capdase for Hero? I've been looking all over for it.

QUOTE(reengurl @ Mar 6 2010, 09:23 PM) Seems like it turned out that I got the phone with the build number 2.73.707.9.. Don't really understand as that build is a Singapore phone right? Can SiS sell Singapore sets? And there is more steps for this build when it comes to rooting right? Do you see a Market icon in your Program list? If you do, then it's definitely an SG set. If I'm not mistaken, for Malaysia, the normal hard-to-root build would be 2.73.728.5. I'm not aware that they have 2.73.707.9 for Malaysian sets. Either way, you're gonna have to downgrade that ROM before you can root it. First step is go to shahz's post here:- http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1211670and do Step 1. Step 1 is about establishing connectivity between your phone and your PC. It doesnt modify anything on your phone just yet. While it's really a simple step, many have faced problems in this step alone. So you need to sort out any connectivity issues first before even thinking of rooting your set. @ bonannoAny camera problem with that ROM?

Nah. I havent touch any 2.1 ROMs yet but I read about some camera problems. If the stock camera is working, they must have resolved the issues. Now the temptation level is getting higher.

The only reason would make me back to 1.5 - PAPAGO..hopefully papago for 2.1 coming soon.... Yeah, something like that I guess. Oh I have been contemplating about 2.1. Someone even poisoned me through PM when the AOSP came out. But I still have tons of stuff to do at the moment. If I start playing around with 2.1 ROMs now, I doubt I'll get my work done in time.

You need root to store your apps to SD. As for bluetooth file transfer I'm not too sure how far cupcake support file transfer (because I never use bluetooth. I'm a bit paranoid) but the newer 2.1 ROMs do support it. Meanwhile I need to stay away from this thread for awhile just to avoid from accidentally seeing sexy screenshots.

QUOTE(adipop @ Mar 13 2010, 02:34 AM) I'm not tryin to say iphone is the best but i'm sure we are intelligent enough to look at the sales figures. It could be apple's marketing strats - no drastic updates if the device sells like hotcakes haha....from a business point of view i would prolly do the same....since everyone's trying to come out with an 'iphone' killer every now and then.....so until other manufacturer takes the mantle, iphone would still be some sort of a yardstick for now. Android market DO need to come out with more productivity apps instead of games....i am not goin to spend rm2k+ on a smartphone just to play games you know. I'm not tryin to say you're trolling in the wrong thread but what in heaven's name does your post have anything to do with Hero. BTW, your statement of 'not goin to spend rm2k+ on a smartphone just to play games you know' is utterly ridiculous. It's implying that Android have such awesome games which it doesnt. In turn, it exposes the fact that you yourself havent been to the Market. Here's news for you, at the moment, Android games sucks. So obviously we didnt pay RM2K+ just for the games. iPhone has a better game line-up. So if there's anyone who's stupid enough to pay rm2k+ for games, it's the iPhone users.

Means in the end I still have to root it? Thx I have a class 6. I think mine came from SG.

Did anybody try the one on theunlockr.com? Either one will help you root your Hero. theunlockr.com has some extended info if your set needs to be goldcarded.

QUOTE(dracozz @ Mar 26 2010, 07:59 AM) Does rooting void the SIS warranty? Yes. Just make sure you made a backup of the stock ROM that came with your phone before rooting it. You can re-flash to stock if you wanna claim warranty.

QUOTE(neo_strut @ Mar 26 2010, 09:49 AM) hello to all Hero users....i.e. Hero's heros i just bought a Hero frm PDAexpert last week. Brown unit (coz it has Marketplace). The salesperson told me it's the first batch imported from S'pore. The white version is latest, but meant for M'sia (no marketplace). is that true? ROM build: 2.73.709.9 146733 CL#62020 and now, i'm looking for a way to get out of the non-paid apps region any idea? Does that mean you want to get paid apps in your Market?
