How about the keyboard ElmI? Earlier AOSP keyboard is much slower compared to MCR 3.0c +TCK 1.9p.

Just to test my own understanding,
1. Hero original ROM is based on 1.5 firmware, codenamed Cupcake. Observe the alphabet. Cupcake, 1.5. Donut, 1.6. Eclair, 2.0. Flan, 2.X 2. AOSP is basically a ROM. This ROM is intended to be without Google's app. Which means no Market, no Gmail etc. 3. MCR is a short name for MoDaCo Custom ROM. This ROM is baked by Paul, an admin from www.modaco.com 4. Teknologist's Custom Kernel, or TCK. Read his extended explanation at http://android.teknologism.org/ 5. Amon RA is one of many custom recovery images. You can't flash custom ROM with original recovery image. To flash custom ROM (e.g. AOSP or MCR) you need to use custom recovery image. 6. AOSP will always be in development. Stick with original ROM (or maybe MCR) if you wanted a stable phone. The rule of the game is simple. Don't fack your phone if you don't want your phone to fack you. 7. The most 'stable' will be your original ROM. The ROM should be good enough for you uncles and aunties. 8. Nandroid backup is the exact image of your phone's current state. Just like a photo. In fact, more than a photo. A photo is a visual representation of a state of time. A photo of you kissing Adriana Lima is a visual explanation what was happening with you in Brazil. That photo doesn't tell you what happened before and after the kissing. That exact time. The point is, a Nandroid backup is an exact representation of state of your phone. Good thing about Nandroid is, you can always use it to get back to the previous state of your phone. Unfortunately, you can never get Adriana Lima kissing you again and again from a photo. You need to fap for that. 9. No need. I mean fack that original stuff. You can flash any suitable ROM you want without going back to original. 10. You can backup your APN settings with an app, APN Backup & Restore. Search for it from Market. 11. Google Goggles is for 1.6+. You can't never have Goggles if you use original ROM or MCR as they are running 1.5 firmware. This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Dec 17 2009, 10:35 PM |

Sorry, I have made a little correction there.
5. Amon RA is one of many custom recovery images. You can't flash custom ROM with original recovery image. To flash custom ROM (e.g. AOSP or MCR) you need to use custom recovery image. I'm running HERO21 1.7 naw. Very responsive indeed. Even smoother the latest HERO21 compared to AOSP I feel. However the ROM has too many preinstalled crapps. Might do another batch script to mass delete them. Nexus bootscreen :-) too gawd damn long. Hoho! |

You may want to disable your H, 3G or 2G connectivity. I found that AOSP 2.0.1 r5 also drained my batt dry last week. Suddenly.
Get APNdroid to disable said connectivity. ![]() Edit: TCK 1.91 is out :-) Get it from http://bit.ly/6bgC5d This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Dec 21 2009, 08:30 PM |

Oh my yes... Finally I successfully made my own 'custom' ROM!
Not exactly. I did my own mods (for the time being just removing, adding apks only) to MCR 3.0 update.zip. I removed apps as per my mass-delete script. Then, I follow lox's tutorial at http://is.gd/5yH80 to repack teh update.zip. Now I have a bare MCR based on MCR 3.0c! Bye-bye hackish, dirty mass-delete script! ![]() Now let's see what happen if I put new 2.1 browser to this MCR... Oh my... Edit: Oh my f*** yeah! Nexus One boot animation on my MCR! JIAHAHAHA. Unfortunately no. Nothing faster or special.
My Hero is just a bare version of MCR 3.0. I modded several settings (apns, apps + widgets, icons, boot anim. & some small small things) and repack it for personal use. It's mainly for my own educational purpose only. |

You use Google Contacts?
I read Google Contacts has this 'merge' feature. You can try that. |

Yes absolutely :-) My Hero was exactly like yours.
I wrote that with one thing in my mind. To share a step by step, direct and foolproof (not really!) guide to root local set Hero. I rooted mine exactly like that, initially. Mine you there files mentioned there are outdated. You may want to get them updated. Let me rewrite that for you. 0. Save MCR into your sdcard (don't put it into a folder). Latest version is 3.0c. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAnD Note: This is an image of an operating system. Just like Ubuntu/Fedora live cd. 1. Install OpenIntents' File Manager. Latest version is 1.11. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAtp Note: This is a file manager. The use is to install the app mentioned below. You can easily install this if you open the download link from your Hero's browser. 2. Save Flashrec into your sdcard (don't put it into a folder). Latest version is 1.1.2. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAK1. Note: This app will enable you to replace stock recovery image to a custom recovery image. 3. Save Amon-RA into your sdcard (again, don't put it into a folder). Latest version is 1.5.2. Direct download: http://is.gd/5KAVD Note: This is the said custom recovery image. This is to enable you to flash MCR into your Hero. You can't flash a custom ROM without this. 4. With OpenIntents' File Manager, browse your sdcard and install Flashrec. 5. Open Flashrec, touch backup (the last button of the program). Wait. Note: This will backup your original recovery image. 6. There is a box. Type sdcard/Recovery-RA-HERO-v1.5.2.img, then click the button just below the box. Wait. Note: This is to replace your original recovery image to a custom recovery image. 0. It's wise not to blindly follow the above and following commands. Check your spelling and such. Basic. 7. The horror part is done. Turn off your Hero. Note: Now it's time to flash MCR from the custom recovery image. 8. Hold POWER and HOME simultaneously. Button no 2 and 4 from left simultaneously. Note: This is how you enter the recovery image. 9. In the Matrix. Note: Welcome :-) 10. Backup your original ROM. How: Backup/Restore > Nand backup. Wait. Note: Revert to your original ROM by Backup/Restore > Nand restore. 11. Backup your data. Fark now only want to backup ah? Note: Sync your contacts to Google Contacts. My suggestion. 12. Wipe your Hero. How: Wipe > Wipe data/factory reset. Wipe > Wipe Dalvik-cache. Note: Factory reset. You know it. 13. Flash MCR. How: Flash zip from sdcard > SDCARD: 3.0-update-hero-modacocustomrom-core-signed.zip. Note: This is it. Flashing a pre-rooted ROM. 14. Oh shit. Note: Pray to your God. Or Gods. 15. Reboot. Note: 1st start after flashing a new ROM indeed is long. Just wait. 16. Go sell your Hero. LOL. Edit: Some pictures. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by LEVIATHAN: Jan 4 2010, 10:06 AM |

From No. 9, everything is done from the custom recovery image, which is Amon-RA. No app.

Paul released MCR 3.1 Beta! Unfortunately for most of us, the download is available for them subscribers only. The link is http://is.gd/5MNdl.
Well, if you get yourself the download link, kindly share it here :-) |

You may want to educate yourself by reading about MCR at http://is.gd/5zME3. MCR is based on 1.5, so any you can use your Papago on any version of it.
Yes tim, how do you know you have the patched ROM? May I know where you stuck? |

Install radio just like you install custom ROM. Check http://is.gd/5TE2H and follow the instruction from No 13.
Download the *.zip, put in inside your sdcard, flash it as you flash a custom ROM. |
