not trying to bring you down, but gaining muscle while cutting is rather hard...try google cutting and you'll know what i mean...

my pov is, since you're a student, with a tight budget, get yourself a decent fat burner...that is if you have good diet...once you complete your cutting phase, then you can take protein...

a fat burner basically :
• works as an appetite controller
• boost metabolisme rate to burn fat faster
• carbs blocker
• thermogenic
and many more...

The basic idea is that if they can raise your metabolism even a little bit, you will burn more calories each day, even while resting...

actually, i don't think it's that easy to gain muscle and shred fats in the same time...it's either this or that, you can't have both mate...

if the class is FOC, by any means, you should try it lor...nothing to lose...but honestly, without attending any classes, you still can do it...many good transformations we have here in the forum...go check their journal...in whatever you do, always back to the basic...caloric deficit or caloric surplus, it's you to decide...

whey...12lbs seems a lot if you think you need to finish it in a week...if you bulk for 3-4 months, a bag of that won't be enough...

you should calculate the protein amount instead of the weight in 1 scoop...minimum is 2 scoop ~ 48g of protein...optimum results likely to be seen if you consume everyday and reach your consumption target X gram ~ X body weight in lbs...

p/s : ppl tend to consume it in insignificant amount cause they don't want their whey to finish off too soon (and some more lack of solid food in daily intake)...and that's the reason why they didn't grow as per desire...

enough rest / sleep is essential, minimum 6 hours / day...but I managed to sleep like that only 2-3 times/week due to hectic schedule...the rest, only sleep for 4-5 hours... sad.gif

i'm no pro bro, but i did some reading on this...both exercises should be incorporated in leg training...it's recommended in addition to barbell squats...of course, if not done properly, will give you injuries...but then again, charles poliquin did say that smith machine is not for beginners...but if you hv to choose between those two, free weight FTW !! rclxms.gif

just my 2 cents...

p/s : brandon curry also using smith machine from time to time...look at his leg...

the comparison is like doing lat pull down vs pull up...and of course free weight is superior than the smith machine, but it doesn't mean we can't do the exercise...

having alternate exercise is better rather than sticking to only routine...smith machine is best when you don't have spotter and if you have bad knees / injuries...after a cycle, you can chage back to free weight....better safe than sorry bro...

and as JonYeap mentioned earlier, it should be done alternately, on different regime...maybe smith machine on WEEK 1, and do the free weight on WEEK 2...

so, lu tak kena kencing pon... tongue.gif sometimes, ppl's way of educating and coaching method is not that good...so, we tend to felt for misconcept...

i don't think most bb would stay away from honey...unless a week out from comp...by right, honey = fructose... fructose is good because it is primarily used for liver glycogen...honey is useful, but not superior to other forms of carbs...

correct me bro darkie, from what i understand, there's no superior programme or routine in BB, right ?? wether its stronglift, jim wendler, gvt, hvt etc...just go for whatever suit you...simply said, just don't overlook things...right ??
