QUOTE(sixseven @ Nov 25 2009, 11:13 PM) the sizing is similiar but not really the same.i believe that the current season's jerseys are slightly looser fitting as compared to last season's. so if last season's one was abit loose fitting for you, maybe this season u can consider dropping down a size. of course the safest way would be just to go to the shop and try it out |

This guide is intended for newbies who want to take the risk of applying themselves the PU namesets...
Before I proceed with this guide, please bare in mind the risks of doing it... it is up to you and if you decide to take the risk, good luck... But if you screw up, I won't be held responsible........ Of course, the best way to apply a PU nameset is to send it to the local store who has the bulky printing machine and ask them to iron press for you. They will charge you if you do it locally, but what if you don't have the luxury of having the option to go for the bulky printing machine? People like wongkwp, pyroboy1911 who lives abroad (at US and Australia respectively) and has no option but to DIY apply it themselves. Again before you proceed.. please ensure that the PU nameset is new and not too old (more than 3-4 years) because if it's too old, there is a risk that the PU nameset's glue has almost expired and it will be a pain in the ass to apply it yourself. Even if you use the heat press printing machine, it might still be tedious and disastrous.... There are also cases when they couldn't peel off the old PU nameset's plastic film from the applied nameset... So bare in mind the age of the PU nameset first before you apply it. I had been planning to do this all along........... so when I had the chance to do it, I took the risk. Tools to be used: masking tape, set square rulers, a plain cloth (I used my wife's tudung or veil), iron and ironing board So we will start printing the name of the player first, then we print the number of the player. Part 1: Applying the name 1. Before you proceed, iron your jersey first to ensure that the surface is smooth and not crumpled.. First, align the name of the player accordingly. Then put some masking tape so that the name doesn't move from it's intended aligned position on the jersey: ![]() Arrange and align the name of the player and then place some masking tape 2. Move the jersey on top of your ironing board. Then cover it with a plain cloth: ![]() Cover the nameset with a plain cloth 3. Set your iron to 2 or 2.5 dots (medium heat). You can try setting it to 3 dots since we use a plain cloth to cover the nameset, I used 3 dots... But to be safe, use 2 dots. Then iron press firmly for 5 seconds on top of the nameset that is covered with the cloth. But please be careful not to iron on top of the masking tape. This is why you should use a plain white cloth that is transparent: ![]() Iron press the nameset with the plain cloth to protect your jersey. Don't iron on the masking tape! For PU namesets, a good amount of pressure and heat is really essential. Without the plain cloth, if you do it directly, you risk of ruining the jersey's surface and leave an ugly mark on top of it.. trust me, it's best to have the plain cloth to protect it.. 4. Then, remove the plain cloth and remove the masking tape... At this moment, don't peel off the nameset's plastic film yet: ![]() Peel off the masking tape... 5. After removing the masking tape (only), cover back the nameset with the plain cloth and iron press firmly again (5 seconds). When ironing, you can slightly press it... Remember, pressure+heat is vital for PU namesets. This time, with no masking tape, you can freely iron it with no worries of accidentally ironing the masking tape: ![]() Iron press firmly the nameset again with the plain cloth 6. Once you've covered all the areas on ironing the nameset, remove the plain cloth. Then, fan or flap your jersey so that you help remove the heat from the previous ironing: ![]() Flap or fan your jersey to remove the heat from previous ironing * Bare in mind, this should be done IF the nameset is cold peel. Most nameset nowadays are cold peel, where the PU nameset must be cold and then only you can peel off the plastic film. There are some rare namesets that are hot peel (example, some of Real Madrid's nameset). If it's hot peel, after you've iron the nameset, you must peel off the film straight away while it's hot (skip the step of fanning or flapping your jersey to remove the heat). So if you buy the nameset from an ebay seller for example, it's best to check if the nameset is hot or cold peel. But most are cold peel nowadays... 7. Since the nameset I'm applying here is cold peel, I have to ensure it's already cold before I can peel off the plastic film. Use your hands to feel the nameset's film and ensure that it is cold before you start peeling it off: ![]() Feel the plastic film first before you peel it.. 8. You can physically look at the plastic film of the nameset and see that there is some gap surrounding the letters outline as shown below: ![]() You can see the gap around the letter's outline This is another indicator that the nameset has bonded on the jersey's surface. 9. This is the tricky part.... Gently, carefully, patiently, slowly... peel off the plastic film: ![]() Carefully.. peel off the plastic film *To peel off the film, one good tip from jerseyman is to start from the sharp edges or corners of the letters.. Make that your starting point when you want to peel off the film..... 10. Finally if you suceed peeling off the plastic film, the nameset should have already bonded on to the jersey's surface: ![]() Part 1 completed... But the nameset is not 100% bonded yet.. Why? Jerseyman will explain later.. To be continued....... This post has been edited by schmeichel7: Nov 26 2009, 11:27 AM |
