You should update with the offer package including the usage data limit. But how to make sure that you will not over use and also you wont use over the allocated time limit?

REad the FAQ:
QUOTE
How do I know if I’m reaching the volume quota?
An SMS notification will be sent at 90% of the allocated volume or 10 minutes before your session expires. You can also perform a status check via *100#

The first post is very neat indeed. Good job. thumbup.gif

But there is a difference between postpaid and prepaid users.
This is the package for current postpaid user:

Great news~!!! the charging in postpaid line is thru your unbilled amount~ and not as a value added services... so for those who has under utilize monthly commitment this is a GREAT way to spend your bill~

Tried out the RM2 / hour prepaid broadband - excellent. Maxis gives you a unique global IP address, unlike Celcom and Digi which put you behind their internal routing.

100 MB limit - have to be careful not to exceed this. With 3.5G and 1.8mbps, you can easily hit the limit within 1 hour. Thumbs up for Maxis.

btw - maxis blocks torrent. That's the only downside.

Make sure you get the acknowledgement sms from them when you use the prepaid service. Otherwise they will knock off your usage from your prepaid main account AND YOU END UP PAYING FOR MORE THAN YOU EXPECTED!

i think prepaid more value for money. If u take 7 days only cost u rm25. So one month will be around rm100 but then u get around 8gb quota ( 2gb every week).

make sure you get the SMS confirmation once you purchase...then just connect to internet. if you reach 90% of your quota or ending time expiry Maxis will prompt you also. Dont worry you wont get charged extra as they will disconnect you first and tell you TIME'S UP! nod.gif

IMHO, having used all 3G broadband (Sialcom, U Mobile, DiGi, Maxis), Maxis, bad as it is, is way better than Sialcom. In terms of speed and especially customer support.

i have been subscribed to maxis weekly broadband for this month.2gb limit weekly.
but due to the speed which i connect with phone as modem get 115.2kbps .i just use less than 1 gb.

i ' m using prepaid.

remember to check the status from the *100# to know how many MB ,u have been using to avoid any further charges.

You found a big loophole here. tongue.gif
Try to fully utilized it and hopefully they wont charge you by giving you negative credits.

Unless you get a voice enable USB modem or use your phone as modem.

i'd suggest use prepaid first to test the line condition, performance, etc.

if u're satisfied, then subscribe the postpaid plan. at least u won't regret later smile.gif

Using Maxis postpaid here and interested to give this a try. I am wondering, if i had applied it through the *100# menu, is it automatically activated? Or i should wait for any confirmation message?

And if say i subscribed to the 1 hour package and i am still connected at that point, will it be disconnected automatically, or they start charging me via the pay per use?

Edited : Alright, got the confirmation message after a few hours of subscribing. and thats bad. Probably not using it anymore.

Don't use postpaid for their prepaid broadband. If you read their FAQ, postpaid customers will NOT be disconnected once their subscription expires, but will be charged instead at 10sen/10kb (peak) or 5 sen /10kb (off-peak) rate.

I also noticed the mobile broadband for postpaid customers is put under "value added service" but I called up maxis they say it will be charged as part of the monthly credit. Can anyone clarify?

I wanted to ask , let say subscribe fro 1 hour RM2 .How does it count ?
Once I connect , I consider already RM 2 ? let say connection very poor it auto disconnect how does it count ?

Let say today raining but I wanted to access the internet

8:00PM connect , (due to raining having a poor speed , it got disconnect)
8:15PM (auto disconnect)
- Usage 15 min , Wait until 9:30PM rain stop
9:30PM connect back , use for 30 min
- Usage 45min left 15 min

Tomorrow at night 8:30 connect to the internet.

8:30PM connect
8:45PM disconnect

Usage = 1 hour

So will it charge RM 2 for the 1 hour usage ?

it will include inside your unbilled amount (like normal call/sms charges) it wont be charge as VAS like extraten or extrasms... you can see that let say today u take 1hour (RM2) for sure next morning you can notice RM2 is added in you unbilled amount

not like that.... it will count FROM THE MOMENT the SMS says your transaction is SUCCESSFUL... in that sms it will display the one hour period STARTING time and END TIME and also usage

upon 90% usage of your data quota or 10minits before your 1hour expires (whichever comes 1st)... 1SMS reminder will come to notify you

So that means once the sms activated , no matter if I browse 10 min or 5 min it will continue counting for 1 hour .?

Then , it's not so useful if I wanted to check mail for 10 min.Shouldn't it be counting base on hourly ?

I have read it somewhere that Maxis blocks torrenting (Bit Torrent). Can anyone confirm this ?
I am planning to buy the Maxis 7 day package because of its speed, but if torrenting is not allowed, then any sim card will be the samef or me.

Has it being confirmed in your postpaid bill? I called up the billing department yesterday and they told me it'll be charged as a VAS service, not as usage. Maybe I try out RM2 hourly broadband today and see my bill. AFAIK, maxis is never that generous one.

I did not subscribe to Maxis prepaid wireless either hourly and daily. I plugged the SIM into my Huawei modem and connect.

I am wondering I will be charged as per usage at 0.10 per 10kb ah?

I disconnected after finished my surfing and total usage was 2MB..... RM20 gone...

Guyz,

I have just bought a USB Modem, and I'm using this with Hotlink prepaid.
FYI, my modem has sms support.

So, my question is, can we activate hourly, daily, monthly pass using sms? As I'm concern, we can only do this via *100# and we have to get out the SIM and put into a phone.

I have tried taking out the sim put into a phone and activate it, whenever i put into my modem, sometimes it cant detect the SIM and it shows no SIM, so this is my reason why activating via sms is much better.

Hope someone can help

Thanks

you have to go "right click " on Computer -> Properties-> Device Manager -> Modem (look for your modem then right click ->"Properties".)

Under the "Advanced" , type in this String under the blank box there -> { +CGDCONT=1,"ip","unet" } *note, elimate the bracket {}.

Then dial again with *99# , user "maxis" ,password "wap".

This will let you get connected.

Maxis has change the APN already.

Use your mobile type in *100# then "Send".

Choose "Prepaid Broadband" , then select no.4 switch plan.

tried using this service since last week, using my phone (SE G502) as modem. this is lovely IMO, coz i get speeds ~400KB/s for downloads during wee hours & ~200KB/s during noon. would post some speedtest results later on..

with this, i can stream DI.fm #Trance everyday without delay in buffering time..thumbup.gif but 2GB is still a bit short. would love slight increase, maybe 2.5GB perhaps?

edit:speedtested this at 9pm

Yes man, i would be very happy if Maxis/Hotlink allow sms activation for broadband as most of the USB Modem comes with SMS features.

Its just annoying taking out the SIM and putting it back into the modem after activation, it may also make the slot loose in long run. And that might result the modem not detecting the SIM

So, hopefully someone could highlight this to Hotlink/Maxis

The first time I used maxis plan I used "Internet Mudah Alih" assuming Prepaid Broadband is the same thing.. thn after a few days or so i decided to buy the 1week Prepaid Broadband(still assuming IMA=Prepaid broadband).. After i bought the pass i tried accessing gprs on my phone but no respnse n then on pc it did the work bt after i a while it stop working ,i check balance wat do u know its rm0.00... .. i know that the apn shud b changd to bbnet but it still doesnt work on my phone , i wanna try on pc but i dont know how to change APN on pc.. I calld hotlink(1300) twice thinking that my subscrptn hasnt been activated that wat i told them...they told me this and that and told me 2 not use the gprs until the technical dep calld me but i ws rly frustrated.. the technical dep still hvnt calld me yet but i disobeyd n tried edting the apn in operator.xml file in nokia pc suite and bam!i got the internet... It turns out Internet Mudah Alih support on phone n on pc... while Prepaid Broadband is only 4 pc..(got influenced by celcom bb since celcom Broadband supports both phone n pc)

true.. though maxis did mention the abt the apn bbnet... but they didnt told it was 4 pc only n the method on how to change the apn on pc.. lyk i said b4 i had to mod the nokia pc suite file to change the apn.. but after reading the the earlier post i found out a better way to do it.. which is rite-clicking the modem's properties in device manger then go to advance tab..

I already said that it only worked on PC(I know this coz only Prepaid Broadband has rm25 plan while the Internet Mudah Alih doesn't) and on the PC change the APN of your modem to "bbnet".. @ first I also thought it was somekind of mafunction in their service..

Tried on both USB Modem and phone, works fine.

Though struggled with the phones setting at first as some phones keep referring back to the unet settings.

It should work on any devices based on success in getting it to work with phones smile.gif

the defintion of mobile internet in my opinion is dat u use ur phone built-in web app to access WAP sites..i.e. facebook mobile & blogs
& the prepaid internet is you use the sim, plug it to a phone/usb modem and sync it to ur PC to access the internet.

that's why you have more plans for mobile internet (1 hour being the bare minimum) vs prepaid broadband (1 day being the bare minimum)

...about the APN 'unet' and 'bbnet'...

by default, the 'unet' setting is for receiving MMS/3G calls/anything related to it.and all sim cards have been set for 'unet'.
if you want to change the APN to 'bbnet',this is what i do (assuming you have Hotlink sim like me):

1.dont subscribe to any plan 1st..

2.enable 3G setting if u use phone like me.if usb data modem, skip this.

3.go to *100#, select option 3:Prepaid Broadband

4.inside,choose option 4:Service Swithcing and inside it, choose option 2:Switch to Prepaid Broadband..proceed with everything else and wait for confirmation message stating the SIM APN has changed to 'bbnet'

5.now plug in ur phone/sim card to usb modem and create a NEW internet connection.make it a new one so that you can customise anything regarding connection.i'm using my SE G502 and latest SE PC Suite as a reference here..

6.inside ur newly-created connection...do not set any fallback connection,'maxis' as username,no password,APN is 'bbnet' and everything else left default.now, start the connection using the one you just custom-made.

7.if it shows the Maxis Prepaid Broadband page as a startup-page,u are officially done connecting to the internet.now, buy yourself a daily or weekly pass and happy surfing.. icon_rolleyes.gif

hope this helps clarify things thumbup.gif

Added on October 31, 2009, 2:46 pmoh yeah..u may need to wait a 1-2 minutes as the server may need to give u a dynamic IP to start with..if the speed is slow, just disconnect and reconnect back.should have better speed then...

If you topup ngam2 and after finishing the quota.., you won't be able to surfing anymore....

usually it'll auto disconnect after you finished the quota....

and, nope...no deduction if you reload again...

yesterday testing maxis broadband, then at first its OK. but after 11:00 pm, then suddenly the speed drop and can't get through to the internet.

now will test again using my brother modem before deciding on which provider is the best.

So far Celcom is good, but the package is not so good

i won't be recommending this service to anyone anymore...
particularly the monthly rm58 1.5GB package...

sudden spikes, frequent dc,high ping all of a sudden, keeps me from playing online games at ease, made my win/loss ratio worse & worse...

even now when i typing this reply,i keep getting disconnected.

this service gets crappier as time goes on...and there are now other stable alternatives too...
location at serdang, selangor btw...

Im a flight Simulator gamer flying always in multiplayer with 10 or more players, subscribed using my postpaid monthly rm88 package, using my HTC desire as modem and speed i can get around 2-3Mbps.. Gaming is really smooth but the only problem is monthly 3GB capping, i always end up finishing up my 3gb within 10 days

Gonna buy the prepaid and subscribe for 7 days plan and give a try if i can get the same speed at my place, Only thing i wonder is about the APN, postpaid using Unet and prepaid using bbnet! are they on different gateway or same gateway ?

If anyone know how to set APN for android phone do post as android dont have place to input dialup number something as required

it only have APN name, user, pass, proxy, MMC etc

It seems they have a new prepaid package, no longer just under Hotlink.

http://www.maxis.com.my/personal/broadband/prepaidbb_kit.asp

Anybody knows if the speed (normal) is unlimited or is it capped (again, speed is what we're talking about here, not bandwidth)?

I use the old maxis prepaid broadband package now, rm89 (rrp rm99) 1.5GB 30 days validity. I got 3Mbps and quite stable, but after 1.5GB won't be able to surf and need to pay for a new pass.

What's the capped speed on maxis postpaid broadband if I exceed the quota for the rm68 3GB package?
Can I use the modem that I got from the prepaid package with the postpaid sim?
